Get the groupon for here! It is an extremely good deal. You get about $90 worth of stuff for $40. Two appetizers, four entrees, two desserts and four glasses of wine (no honey wine or substitutes for other drinks). This is perfect for four people. I usually get the meat and vegetable combination plates along with two additional items depending on what people are interested in trying. Definitely eat it all family style and have a little bit of everything. My personal favorite is the veggie dish that has carrots in it (cannot remember the specific name). I also recommend the sambusas for the appetizers. This isnt the best Ethiopian restaurant out there, but the food is good and with the groupon the price isnt bad. I would most likely rate this 3 stars without the Groupon price, also every single time Ive checked this deal is on there so it doesnt seem to be a limited time thing. Ive gone back several times and have always been able to use the Groupon without issue.

Anyone complaining about the cleanliness and appearance of this restaurant is probably a rich yuppie from a rich neighborhood. This is how we do Berkeley. Ive been eating at Ethiopia Restaurant since I was 17 and Im 32 now. I have *never* been disappointed. I eat the vegetarian lunch buffet usually but Ive had almost everything on the menu. The veg lunch buffet is mostly vegan too; just a tip for the review readers! I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant or its staff. And the PRICE!! You can get an entire lunch buffet of epic, delicious, filling food for under $10. Those of you complaining dont even deserve to go here. Im born and raised East Bay, it does not get any better than "Ethis" <3

Ive eaten at a lot of Ethiopian restaurants and this was more than a pleasant surprise. It was recommended by a friend and glad we went. The service in Ethiopian restaurants can be slow - not sure why but its a common complaint - but not last night. In fact, I found the service exceptional. It was just me and my life partner celebrating six years together and the evening was special. The staff checked on us regularly and brought more injera and water when we needed it. The food was amazing and the owner came out to ask about our experience. Ill be heading back to see if its really this good or was a fluke but Im guessing and hoping that its really this good.

Im giving two stars only because my brother has been here twice and brought the whole family thinking it would be a treat. Not quite. The injera (Ethiopian bread) was cold and the potatoes were spoiled!!! It began to stink the entire environment on our table. The sambosa was hot and delicious, especially the dipping sauce. Our server was too busy to check in on us. Not even for water refills. When we asked for a box, she said this is only for done in, twice. She did bring it but I think a little courtesy goes a long way especially in the hospitality business. I really dont want to give it two stars but its justified in this experience. Hope they change.

Loved the food, not the wine, coffee was great. Used a groupon, didnt like that they waited until we were tipping to tell me that I also needed to pay the tax on the groupon meal. Definitely should have been in the fine print or mentioned up front. We decided not to contest it because of time constraints. Besides that the servers were nice, it was beautiful inside but they need to redo the seats on the booths. I still suggest dining here. I really loved the food.

So we got in at 3pm no one in the restaurant and I know why the table was dirty it took ten min to get a glass of water then the glass had water all over it. The whole family was next to the kitchen and found it ok to order prescription medication on speaker phone that was louder then any music. Then we got our food it was ok. I waited 20 min to get a refill on water or wine but the girl never came back we had a free desert but after 30min we just walked out

Food was OK, but I must say that I was less than impress with the cleanliness of the bathroom and dinning area. In any restaurant bathrooms and kitchen should be a top priority. I hope this review is taken into consideration and it would help you improve the quality, cleanliness and ultimately the experience each customer shares when visiting your restaurant.

I really want them to succeed because food is great and service is very friendly. However, the decor and the environment is kind of depressing, and service can be slow. The waitress we had tonight was very friendly but didnt come by very often to check in on us despite the restaurant being mostly empty.

I wanted to like the place because I love Ethiopian food and our waitress was awesome but it was super hot inside (no AC), we waited 50 minutes for our food (I dont mind waiting for good food), the food wasnt good at all (all the meats were very over cooked) AND my wife and I got food poisoning.

This was recommended by a family member as being one of the better Ethiopian restaurants in Berkeley. I cant comment on that, since its the only Ethiopian restaurant in Berkeley that Ive gone to. However, the food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Great food. The injera is good. Their vegetarian options are the best--theyre all vegan, and you can pick and choose exactly what you want (at other places, you have to go with the few combinations they offer). I wish I could find Ethiopian food this good in San Francisco...

An excellent place to try Ethiopian food! Go for the veggie or meat combos to get a sense of the offerings. The wait staff are friendly and familiar. The food is yummy and fresh with a more relaxed feel over the more "popular" Ethiopian food places around.

Restrooms disgusting, small, and wide open upon our arrival. Juices were expensive, bland, and took forever to be prepared. We were one of two tables being served, and food took a very long time. Food not good enough to offset the poor service.

Great food in good portions, especially the 5 assorted vegetable dishes entree. The carrots and green bean one was especially good - we almost passed on it, but our server suggested it, and were glad we listened to her!

Quiet place but the food is surprisingly tasty. Be prepared for a different kind of experience eating with your hands. Staff is nice, though they forget about you a bit.
