I have traveled all over the state of Az, and most of the western states from Texas west to california, and as far north as coure d alane, Id. And Montana. I love food!!!! This place has been a major stop for me each and every time Ive been in Az. Wether Im in Flagstaff, I make that extra hour drive and detour just for Brown Mugs Tacos. I dunno how all the other menu options fare. But if you are looking for a recommended choice at this dining establishment you absolutely cannot go wrong ordering the tacos with rice and beans. And dont forget the homemade chips, and salsa to go. Super yummy, and my family and I cannot wait to travel to az from ut and get our fix of brown mugs tacos!!!!!!!

We were passing through Winslow and asked for a recommendation for a place for dinner. The hotel we stayed at recommended Brown Mug Cafe. It was great - the food was very authentic, homemade and delicious. The service was friendly and we liked the home style atmosphere. We all ordered Mexican fare - enchiladas, tacos, etc. Please note - this is NOT the place to go if youre expecting food from a "Mexican" style chain restaurant. This is the real deal. Like one of the other reviewers, the members of my party are not of Central American descent and we did not speak a word of Spanish. The staff treated us very well and we enjoyed our dinner experience immensely.

Local eatery thats been around for years. Very good Mexican food and they also have burgers. Its usually packed during lunch and dinner time. They dont really have a hostess, so you kind of sit where ever is available...or wait at the door until a table becomes available. The max seating per table is 4 adults. So if you go with a big party 6 or more, most likely youll be seated separate. The bathrooms are not the greatest. Its pretty much a hole in the wall restaurant where all the locals go. So if youre from out of town, dont let the building scare you, they serve the best Mexican food Winslow has to offer!

A lot of people I know like the Brown Mug, but Im not particularly impressed. The Mexican and American food (as indicated on their sign) is pretty average, and the servers never seem very happy to be there. The cheese crisp with green chiles was totally horrendous--wet and slimy. Most of the Mexican selections involve lots of greasy cheese over flavorless beans. They do, however, have a booth with a sign that says, "Harrison Ford (the actor) sat here."

+JMJ...Nice, quaint, very low key cafe with very friendly staff. I believe my friends told me that the cafe is family owned. A claim to fame I found fascinating was the visitation of actor Harrison Ford. The memorable moment was captured and a photo placed near the booth he sat in. My meal of Huevos Rancheros was yummy, but my friends fry bread taco looked yummier.

Not close enough to the border to know how to make enchiladas is our best guess, cheese enchiladas had a drop of cheese, raw onion and was otherwise flavorless in a dry shell of tortilla. The chicken enchiladas were nasty tasting and dry. Although the beans had good flavor they came without any cheese garnish. The salsa was the only good thing about it.

Dont get me wrong, the service and chips were great. The thing that got my family and I wondering was, "whats with the "Mystery Meat" burritos"? Not only were there mystery items on the menu but, we all had a hard time determining what kind of meat was in our food. We ate it without feeling any repercussions and the food was just ok.

Good basic fare but not worth going out of your way. Staff was friendly and the food came quickly. Fried chicken was tender tasty. Mexican hamburger steak was good Chicken fried steak was good. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. Music was too loud. If you need a quick hearty meal at a good price this is a good choice.

The first time I went to the Brown Mug was in 1968 when I was in 6th grade. Moved away in 1970. I went back for the first time since we moved last week. I wasnt surprised it was still there but I was surprised that the food seems as great as I remembered. This is a great hole in the wall for Mexican and American food.

This is always my go to place for Mexican food. The salsa is hot and the staff is always friendly, try the special green burrito or green chili fries. The staff is always great and Im never disappointed.

Waiters were unfriendly. Never offered to refill drinks or chips. Food did not live up to their prices. If you have a big family....its a tight squeeze. We will go next door to Churchs Chicken next time!

One of the greasiest meals Ive been served and did not eat in a long time. Pinto Beans were bland and undercooked. Corn shells for tacos were shiny with grease and overcooked. I would go somewhere else!!

Regional home style cooking in a friendly atmosphere. Try the Steak Picado (it can be hot depending on the days batch of Jalapenos) or play it safe with the fajitas or enchiladas.
