Roaches and small flies! I visited the Sugar Bowl on two different occasions. I had an intense craving for a great banana split and decided to visit the establishment. I must say, the sundae I ordered was FANTASTIC. However, the service was terribly slow (it took ten minutes to get a diet coke after sitting down). Refills on the drink were pretty speedy though. Overall my first experience was far. The second visit, I took my 19 month old son. I ordered the Patty Melt and ice cream to share. My son was in a terrible mood and finally fell asleep in the booth. While he was sleeping I LITERALLY watched a cockroach walk directly over his face (one of those little german roaches). I killed the bug and started looking around the restaurant with a sharper eye. Three more cockroaches on the floor beneath my table and the customers next to me had one walk over their foot. I also watched one of the wait staff sneakily step on a roach in front of the ice cream bar and then kick it under the furniture. The underside of my table and the one next to me was COVERED in small flies. They didnt look like fruit flies but some sort of small housefly (approximately half the size of a normal fly). The service was again slow and the Patty Melt was a total let down, greasy, poor quality meat, and just overall disgusting. Again, the Ice Cream was fantastic though. Though the Ice Cream is wonderful, I will not be returning. If the dining room has that many roaches, I can only imaging what is lurking in the kitchen.

Ill start by saying that this place spoke my daughters language (she was 10 at the time of our visit). Pink everywhere and LOTS of ice cream. Ive seen reviews here criticizing the cleanliness of the restaurant. I think its just more in need of some remodeling/updating than anything. Clearly was a building that has been expanded into over time and it shows. Tile on the floor is a little dingy, but overall the place was quite pleasant. The food was average. We stopped here three times over our week visit from Chicago. So, I tried a few different things. Not bad, but not anything Id say you have to go there for on the lunch/dinner menu. Their ice cream is pretty terrific though. LOTS of choices and they were OK with substitutions on some things (someone didnt want the turkish coffee ice cream in their sundae, and opted for a different flavor - they were fine with that). Choice of flavors was limited some days, but there was always something on the list of available flavors I wanted. Each of the three different sundaes I tried were VERY good. Prices are pretty up there though. Our family of six didnt get out of there for less-than $90 on any of our visits. Id recommend the place as a must-try if youre from out of town. Otherwise, a good spot to grab a cold treat on a hot day if youre walking around that part of Scottsdale.

We were from out of state but my chinese wife and I found this to be a racist establishment. My wife sat at a round table while waiting for our ice cream. We had two explanation one they told my wife and the 4 others in our party they would be asked to leave if they needed the table we were aat. When my nephew entered he was asked if he wanted to order at the counter or at a table another employee came and told us that if you order at the counter you are not allowed to sit at a table. So I am posting this to warn anyone going to this establishment to be aware that this is not a client friendly or possibly a racist place. I have never rated a place of business negatively but definitely will this one I have to admit we only spent &20. Of 8ce cream. My wife who is not fluent in, English was offended because she could not understand being told that she would have to give up her seat. Needless to say the table never had anyone else seated but only about 50 percent of the tables were ever filled.Good ice cream.

Do NOT eat here! There were barely any customers in this restaurant. This was odd to me because every other restaurant in downtown Scottsdale was BOOMING! I walked in on a Saturday, early noon for lunch. At first glance, this place was really cute. Immediately when I sat down I noticed the disgusting floors, sticky tables, sticky menus, and dust everywhere! Even the backs of the chairs were gross. There were about 6 people working behind the counter, all just hanging around and talking. With that many people hanging around, that place should be SPOTLESS! I wonder what their kitchen looks like. The service is HORRIBLE. Everyone was rude and cold. It is such a shame because this place is in a prime spot! My water glass was dirty; the dish with the lemon wedges for my water was dirty. I am not sure how the food tasted because; by the time I got it I was too grossed out to eat it. I paid for the meal and walked out.

My husband and I are longtime Scottsdale residents. We recently went to the Sugar Bowl for a couple of sundaes. Although the sundaes were good if you like plain old vanilla ice cream as the basis for all varieties, I was not happy with the cleanliness of the shoppe. The place was crowded with people from all over the world. The floor was visibly dirty. We sat at the counter and the seats definitely need replacing and were sticky. I was most appalled as I waited for my husband to pay the bill and got a good look at the front doors. FILTHY. They definitely need a good professional cleaning. I didnt want to touch them at all. Horrible! With all the great places in Scottsdale there is no excuse for this. You guys may be a landmark, but we will not go back.

From an era long gone. The pink booths and stripped wallpaper, the wonderful luncheon sandwiches, and classic ice cream creations. An honest to goodness soda fountain bar. There is a reason why this was Bil Keanes favorite and often portrayed in Family Circus comic strips. They have expanded next door to create a wonderful party room and overflow during spring training. Recently used it for my daughters baby shower. It was perfect and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. The menu hasnt changed much over the years. If it works, dont fix it. No matter what you order, you will enjoy it. The prices are competitive, and the quality is great.

This place is fun and nostalgic. It is a retro ice cream parlor with a wide selection of meal items as well. They are flexible when ordering ice cream and will substitute toppings like marshmallow fluff for hot fudge for no extra charge which is nice. The brownie sundae is delicious and so are the hamburgers and fries. My only complaint is that the interior has seen better days. While it is cute and quaint, it also really could use some freshening up. The bathrooms are in dire need of attention. This place is always packed, and they need to do some remodeling to keep it that way. Go check it out it is an Old Town Scottsdale tradition.

The Sugar Bowl feels like one of those classic soda fountains from the 1950s, complete with Barbie pink seats and other retro decor. Every time I visit from Los Angeles, I make a point to stop here for their amazing ice cream shakes. Its actually nice to eat simple soda fountain food like sandwiches and hot dogs with potato chips, especially when surrounded by more upscale (and slightly frou frou) eateries. My favorite thus far is the double chocolate ice cream, but the Turkish coffee ice cream is awesome too. The servers are great too. Its a great place to bring the kids for a treat. Even better for us kids at heart.
