We have been going here for a few years and I recently decided to give the burger another shot as the first one was so horrible (it was 2 a.m.) I swore it off for good ,well I should of stayed away from the burger it was raw and I ordered it medium well I didnt notice that it was undercooked as I was distracted by our nine year old but when I did notice it I almost threw up and I wish I would of because its now the following morning and Im sick as can be and have been on the toilet many many times ,needless to say this places service and food have been on a steady decline and its too bad we live within walking distance but Im not into getting sick from their food or the poor service they have had over the last three years . Our daughter recently had the fried pickles and was throwing up all night and I was pretty sick then too. So Im no longer going to be frequenting this establishment as the food sucks along with most of the service !!!! .........Update, Its been a year and we decided to give this place another try because its right here in our neighborhood,....after waiting over 35 minutes with no apologies we still didnt have our food and the people around us that were there before us also didnt have their food, we quickly realized it was going to be over 45 minutes minimum to see our food, there is no excuse for this no food should take longer than 12 minutes its an industry standard, so we dropped 5 dollars on the table and moved on our way to another local business (Snooze am eatery)where our food was on the table at 10 minutes and they were way more busy than this place ever will be ,needles to say I will not be returning here ever it sucks and Ive been screwed over too many times and Im actually done with this location as it will more than likely be closed within another year !!!! I wish I could rate no stars. The only thing that could help this place is starting fresh with a new building and all new staff, its only a matter of time until the whole neighborhood stops going ......good bye and good riddance ............

This used to be one of my favorite Phoenix restaurants but the past three visits have been pretty terrible. On this last visit, I ordered a cheeseburger and added bacon. It came with no bacon. The waitress brought some out for me, but we also had no ketchup (none was brought with the burgers) and by the time we had that the burger that was already lukewarm was cold. I am a professional fat kid who loves a burger and for the first time left half on my plate. I also ordered a malt vanilla shake. I told the waitress there was no malt. She said they "blend it really fine." But I know the difference between malt and no malt. When the check came out, sure enough, it was rung up as a regular no-malt shake. I suspect thats how the order was put in. On one hand, our waitress was fine in that she checked up on us and was friendly, but on the other hand the order was wrong. When I showed her the receipt, she went to talk to the manager about it, which I appreciate, but like I said, this was our third bad experience in a row. So, I for one may have to take 5 & Diner off our date night rotation. Which is a real shame, because the ambiance is still really fun and cool.

me and my girlfriend first look up this place and looked at all the reviews there was only one at the time that was bad so we went here and when we got there it was cute and really cool looking because it had that old time vibe so then we sat down and ordered my girlfriend ordered the hungry diner and i ordered there french dip she said hers was good my on the other hand sucked there was no cheese when on the menu it said it comes with cheese like seriously how can you mess that up anyways the meat was dry as well and the au jus was just water basically it just sucked and that item was suppose to be one of there popular items so then we were done with out food but my girlfriend looked on the side of her shoulder and there was a cockroach crawling on the sit and the waiter tried to act like it wasnt a cockroach like she thought we were lying we will never go there again.....!!!!!!!!!

I am a regular here and come to this place at all hours. The diner fare never disappoints and the atmosphere is fun. My favorite dishes include the Eggs Benedict (traditional and/or chipotle) or the Francheeze which is a really good version of a hot dog. First Fridays are a blast with live music from a really unique band (trio) that features a (really good looking) female percussionist/vocalist who plays standing up. The kids enjoy the paper hats and coloring/activity menus and atmosphere here too. Only dropped a star because the smell of bad mop water hitting you squarely in the face upon entry is kind of a regular occurrence, but the place is generally clean and its a great value. Also, the Diner Rewards program here is basically a 10‰ off deal which I consider one of the best rewards programs of all.

This diner is nostalgic for my wife and i. We have been going here for 23 years. When we first moved here to phx in 1994 we are here. We ate there at least once a week in 1995. We visited through the years. On sept 20 we ate there. Its our special nostalgia place. It was our 36 year anniversary. Food delicious. Clean and nice atmosphere. Server was excellent. She was very friendly and professional. Nice to us. The manager volunteered to give us each free dessert fro there menu. We both got free desserts. 15 dollar value...free in honor of our anniversary. We will continue coming. Thanks guys.

Its open late.... thats the only reason for a star. We went late after a night out. I was the dd so I got too witness the debauchery. The clientele were quite rowdy, as to be expected at that hour. Cant fault the restaurant for that. The service was really slow and came with a lot of attitude. Maybe due to serving drunk people all night. Nonetheless it was poor service all around. The food was equally as bad in terms of its quality. Maybe this place is better during the day? The ratings dont seem too bad, which is shocking to me.

The building is a fun, retro diner with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is full of diner classics like burgers and sandwiches, but also has pot pie, hot dogs, and a large breakfast variety. The food was fresh and delicious and the server was attentive and fun. The only thing stopping me from giving this restaurant 5 stars is that it is kind of run down. The tile floor is chipped and worn, the booth I sat in had collapsed springs and the material was heavily torn; the whole place just needs a facelift.

5 & Dinner is my favorite place to eat in all of Phoenix! This diner is a throw back to all that is 50s inspired. The servers dress so cute and the decor is fantastic! My favorite thing to eat for breakfast is the Uptown Eggs Benedict. It is made to perfection each and every time I have it. For lunch the Big Texan is an absolute must and for dinner it does not get any better then the Cadillac Meatloaf! If I sound like a 5 & Dinner junkie it is because I am!
