Well, you stop by a dive bar you figure you will get dive bar prices. Think again. The service was nothing special, not the worse but not the best as well. We started off ordering bloody Marys for my wife and I. The server didnt ask how we wanted our bloods, (as a bartender or a server you should always ask. Some people dont like spicy) strike one. Our drinks came out about 5 minutes later, not bad but there were only 5 other customers. Next, when asked if we wanted food, we were told they do but they dont have menus? Strike two. What bar or restaurant doesnt have a menu, I figured out when we left why. We were told all of this food they have, we were impressed. The server then brought us back by the kitchen were the food was, so you can see all the food. It looked alright, nothing eye dropping. I was still confused, even on the food they had displayed to pick from, not one price was listed. We ordered our food. I server then disappeared for 15 minutes and would come back to serve our food. I ordered to scallops with bacon wrapped and a plain burger. My wife ordered a seafood portabella mushroom, all of the food options were rather small. First, the bacon wrapped scallop were over cooked with the bacon being overcooked. The scallops were rather bland, so they give you a bowl of butter to dip it in. My burger wasnt cooked to order, I wanted medium rare, I go med well to well done. The bun was rather hard and burger overall was subpar and no seasoning, strike three. My wifes dish was just horrible. The seafood they used was disgusting, she could barely eat it all and I had a bit with disgust. It tasted like the seafood was old and not cooked properly. I am not sure what else to say, not good. Finally, our bill came and this is were the anger sit in, but I didnt say anything inside out of respect for my wife. 2 Bloody Marys with vegetable fixings - $24.00 2 Overcooked Bacon wrapped Scallops - $16.00 1 Hamburger not cooked to order with hard bun - $10.00 1 Rotten seafood portabella mushroom - $24.00 Total with tax $79.00. We just came in for a late lunch. I have been drinking and eating food at bars for a long time now. Never in my life have I paid such outrageous prices for subpar food. I could eat at 4 star restaurants in Milwaukee, we have. Pasta Tree, Hotel Metro, Lousies, and etc.. and spent the same or less. However, the difference is we knew that we would be paying more because they are nicer establishments, with valuable reputations. So it makes sense that they dont have a menu or wont even tell you their prices of their food. They know no one would buy that crap food and it would all go bad. People dont go to dive sports bars to spend almost a $100 with tip for lunch date. It just doesnt happen. I can go to J & Bs on bluemound and get better food and drinks made for $30 for two people, maybe $40 if I am really drinking. Everything from the bloodys, burger, scallop, portabella was a bad experience. DO NOT STOP HERE. SAVE YOUR MONEY.

To all of those who have read the previous reviews...please forget every negative thing said about this place and keep an open mind. This is my first review of any restaurant, bar, whatever, that I have ever gone to....and I go out all of the time. This place is a dive bar, a corner spot, a perfectly lit 35 year old hole in the wall sitting smack in between a baseball stadium and a veterans hospital. To a first timer this Is just a place to get a few cheap drinks, but in reality you not only enjoy libations, but end up making friends with the entire bar while enjoying some of the best hidden food in Milwaukee. When I say some of the best food-I am saying you walk into a dive bar and end up eating surf n turf. 4th base offers a refrigerator full of crab legs, New York strips, lobster, scallops wrapped in bacon...as well as regular bar food (burgers, fish fry, onion strings, etc). THAT is why this place is so desireable. You get to go out to one of the friendliest places in Milwaukee and choose to either have a normal dive bar experience OR turn it up a notch and satisfy your fine dining craving without putting in a tux. The prices are more than fair given your generous, but not overindulgent, portions. 4th base is for people who know what they want. You want a New York strip Oscar style with 1 crab leg and some onion strings? Great. You want a burger, fries, and a side of crab legs? Do whatever you want. Come get a beer and tell the awesome people here what you want and how you want it...there are no menus. If you can come up with a dream dish they can probably make it. One of the best places in Milwaukee. You are a simply a fool if you read this and dont go here. Enjoy and tell the owner CJ, hello! Did I mention it has been there for 35 years?

Ive been here twice and have had great service both times. Unfortunately, the second time I brought a friend and we experienced a BIG issue. Upon negotiating a meal out with the chef, he told us our cuts of meat were $16. Couldnt quite understand if it was $60 or $16, so we clarified with him 3 times that it was in fact $16. Upon recieving our bills, we were each charged $60. It was a decent steak, but we took issue because he clarified it was $16 before ordering. Because of the great service, we humbled ourselves, paid our tabs and left. Unfortunately its hard to justify coming back based on this experience. For $60, a piece for just the cut of beef, we would have rather gone anywhere else in the city for a better experience compared to the bar atmosphere at 4th base. Again, great service, but their ordering/menu concept resulted in a loss of two customers and future recommendations.

Worst food I ever had! Baked salmon + Baked walleye + grilled mushroom with crab + 4 beer cost $90. Are you kidding? I could of eat Bartolotta downtown for the price. Walleye tasted terrible took one bite and left it. Girlfriend took 2 bites of her salmon, each meal was $22 outrageous also crab mushroom was $18 which tasted terrible as well. I never write reviews in my life and this is the first one. Eating in dusty and dirty bar in west Allis should not cost you more than $50 with drinks. I would never ever drive front of this bar or go in to have a glass of water. Thanks for ruining date nite with girlfriend. BOTTOM LINE HORRIBLE FOOD!!! Go ahead and try if you dont believe it. I would give -5 star to this bar but its not an option.

at first I questioned why the place was dead, then I got my bill. The atmosphere seemed fair until the awkward exception of the bartender handshake meet and greet. I heard about the high turnover from the bartender and how the owner likes to blame everything on the staff. Perhaps it has something to do with his personal jealousy of the bartolattas. The food prices were never shared prior to ordering, and for a dive bar that seemed a little weird. Ive been to my fair share of fancy restaurants that dont share their prices prior to ordering, but in a dive bar like 4th base, it was more entrapment than excitement to explore. Please dont make the same mistake I did, avoid this place and save your money!
