My husband and I had a date night at Pappadeaux recently. He loves crawfish and weve never been there, but Ive heard great reviews. Our super friendly waitress recommended the deep fried alligator for an appetizer, and we were a little hesitant because we had it before at a different restaurant and it was chewy and tasted odd. We gave it a try and loved it! It was super soft, and the spicy dip it came with was delicious! I highly recommend trying it. We came to Ps on the wrong day for the crawfish pot (which comes with red potatoes and corn). This is what my husband was hoping to get. Since they didnt have it, he ordered the deep fried crawfish. It came atop a huge bed of French fries and looked like popcorn chicken. It came with a tartar and a cocktail sauce, I believe. He liked it, but wants to stay away from fried foods, so next time were coming for the crawfish pot! So, I am pretty new to seafood. Im taking baby steps trying new seafoods, since I was absolutely disgusted with seafood as a child up through my twenties. I love crab, but am not super fond of getting all messy and working so hard to crack the shells to get to the meat. They had a deep fried soft shell crab, which I thought would be just crabmeat covered in batter and deep fried, and that itd look like popcorn chicken. I had no idea that you actually eat the soft shell. They basically bread and deep fry the entire crab without removing the shell. This made for a very Alien-movie like experience when my plate of food was presented to me. It looked like a deep fried giant spider on its back, on top of a mound of French fries. It also came with tartar sauce. I am sure most people like soft shell crab, but I couldnt get over the look of it. When I broke of a leg (cringe!!), I could see the skin/shell, and that nauseated me. I was able to rip off the legs, and ate the body parts of the crab as you couldnt see the shell through the breading. It was very good. I had to put the legs on my husbands plate because they were creeping me out. I will definitely get something different when we go back!! Or at least Ill ask better questions before ordering! The Blueberry Moscow Mule that I ordered was delicious and I could have had another, but decided it wouldnt be good to show up a little buzzed to the Christian marriage retreat we were going to later that evening!! And last but not least.... Praline Cheesecake! Oh my word...this was freaking amazing! The BEST cheesecake I have ever eaten in my entire life. Huge piece of cake. Huge praline and pecan chunks in the middle, and the most delicious, buttery and thick graham cracker crust. My husband and I split it and we still couldnt finish it all. Its a must have!!!!!! All in all, it seems like a great place to eat, but if you are new to seafood, start with salmon or something less scary.

Be prepared to wait but it is soooo worth it. Sometimes the wait can be upwards of 45 minutes. On Valentines Day it was 3 hours... On a typical Thursday evening it took 16 minutes to be seated and another 5-10 for water. The food is superb. It is second to none in the area for price and quality. Its that good. My favorite appetizer has got to be either the gumbo, alligator, or 9.99 Texas gulf oysters. The ambience is sort of a portiollos in the sense it has sea related figurines hanging in the ceiling and many many staff running around. The main dining area js sectioned away from the bar with a few spots amongst the windows facing 83. My favorite entree has got to be the Mahi Alexander. All of the Pappadeaux items are named after sauces. I particularly like the alexander cream and wine sauce with scallops and jumbo shrimp. The ponchatrain sauce is good as well. The mixed seafood grill is amazing!! Salmon, scallops, mahi, redfish are fantastic. I love this place my favorite. I cant wait to try the opaluouses and Yvette sauces. Try the blueberry stoli. Its nice and tart and gets Ya drink. Also the pappadeaux platter is excellent with stuffed crab, crab cakes, a tilapia and catfish filet. The bar is nice to sit at sometimes its crowded. But it is fried. Opt to have the fish blackened.

Tonight was my first bad experience at Pappadeaux. I ordered one of their famous Swamp Thing alcoholic drinks. When it arrived, and did not have its normal appearance, I asked the server why. I was told that he had placed an order for a large drink instead of the normal size without giving me the option because in his mind I was getting a better deal with an upcharge of only $1.00. If given the choice, I would have selected a regular size for a few different reasons. 1- It is not about the money 2- I cant drink that much alcohol and 3- because the regular size glass holds the alcohol in such a way that does not allow the different layers to combined as easily giving the drink a completely different flavor. Next, our food came out at a reasonable time but the french fries were lukewarm at best. Finally, I placed an order for key lime pie to take with and noticed when I got home that there wasnt any whip cream on it. To satisfy my curiosity, I called back Pappadeaux to ask if there was supposed to be whip cream on it in the first place. After numerous questions back and forth with the "to go" order taker I still dont have an answer. Needless to say, we will not be back there any time soon. It breaks my heart to have to write about such a negative experience. Get it together Pappadeaux!

(For parents, there is free wifi so the small ones can be distracted on their iPads or your phone while you eat!)This place is amazing! Beautiful outdoor area to eat, and a lively atmosphere inside. The food is so good! The Caesar salad before my meal was the best ever! I ate mine and like half of my husbands. I also ordered the lobster bisque which I also drank to the last drop. I had ordered the Caribbean lobster with the filet migñon. The lobster I ate completely and was so buttery and delicious. Although, I couldnt finish the steak. I was too sated with all the other delicious food. Well until the tea and creme Brûlée came. Hubby ordered the Alaskan halibut that was a naked fish. He had mashed potatoes. He is picky about his fish and it was perfect. My 2 year and 4 year old ate every bite that dad gave them off his plate. The house band came around to each table and asked if it was a special occasion. They sing songs according to the occasion. For our kids they sang "Elmos world " and "twinkle twinkle little star". It was a perfect evening!

Worse customer service ever! Today marked the 4th time in a row I have gone there on my lunch break and was never greeted or acknowledged by a server. I walked out each time after wasting 20 min of my lunch hour. When I complained today to the manager, she simply shrug it off, gave a feeble apology, and moved on to do something else - she wasnt remotely interested in fixing the situation. We have several office functions coming up and I was going to suggest we schedule one of the events there, but after the lack of service I received today, I wouldnt recommend a dog to eat there. For what they charge, they should be a heck of a lot more respectful to paying customers. And to be honest, the quality of their food has been deteriorating for years.
