This was my second visit to this place; I came for a Bloody Mary. I was in Wisconsin a year ago, visiting my kids, and they took me here to introduce me to Wisconsin eats, at their best. This "Old World" restaurant sits by the river. In good weather, you can sit outside, or in. Last time I was here, we tried several samplers. There were things I liked and things I wasnt a fan of, but the real treat was that loaded Bloody Mary. Ive recreated the drink several times, at home: a perfectly flavored, spicy, tomato-y drink, with....ready?....bacon, cheese, a brat, a pickle spear, brussel sprout, olive, lemon and lime. Its a meal in a glass. (Served with a beer chaser - apparently a WI tradition.) This time, the kids tried a fish stack (wish I would have taken a photo). It was unique. I also noticed that the restaurant had a fairly large and impressive Gluten Free menu. They serve those interesting and amazing foods you usually only see in the great state of Wisconsin, like beer cheese soup. If I lived in the area, I think I might have to go there at least once a month, to try a few more of their creative offerings, and enjoy the "Old World Atmosphere", or sit outside by the river. Four stars because Im not yet raving about the flavor of the food....tho I may in time; but Im really raving about the Bloody Marys.

This was my third time dining at Cafe Bavaria. The ambiance here is great. Our party of five came in on a Sunday evening and was seated at a cozy booth upstairs. Service was also good... our server was very nice, laid back and not pushy at all. The reason for the 3 stars had to do with the food. After nibbling on the Bavarian pretzel (which you cant go wrong with) I just ordered a petite spinach salad and a side of frites for my meal. The spinach salad, I have to say, was just really bad. Drowning in dressing and lacking much of the toppings described, it was just... not good. I should have sent it back but was really enjoying the company and didnt have the energy to bother. My frites... well... were more like limp Applebees steak fries trying to look cool in one of those vertical cone serving baskets. Like most of our experiences at the Lowlands Group restaurants (Benelux, Hollander)... everythings hit or miss. But too many misses. :~( Please step it up! There are too many good restaurants in Milwaukee and you cant afford to be mediocre.

I went twice. My first impression was: DELICIOUS!!! As a German the food was very authentic! SO many choices from drinks to food. I suggest one of the bloody marys by far one of the better ones Ive had in a long time and the pork roast on the bone was moist and a new fav! Going back very soon!! ****However! I went a 2nd time for my bday ranting and raving about how great this place was to my mom. Food still was decent I had the same thing it was little more overcooked. What really upset us was it took a half hour for any staff to come to the table to greet us, get drinks, etc. And would have been longer had I not spoke to the front desk. Then after that "lovely" fun they provided the drinks with the meal which shows how long it took for them to get the drinks to us as well! In the end they made the drinks free but normally I wouldve liked to have a drink prior to the meal as well as with the meal well that wasnt the case. Itt was a huge disappointment and now I think twice about going back and dont think its worth it anymore

at a table of six, half thought it was really good and half though it was alright. The french fries are great. They ran out of Tots and to-go containers on their opening weekend and food was slow to appear. The sandwich i had was sadly flavorless. It was the wild boar with sweat and sour pepper sauce and slaw. I tasted no sweet, no sour, no pepper and the slaw just tasted like cabbage. The manager insisted that the sandwich was prepared properly, so perhaps just wasnt to my taste. She did bring me some more of the sauce that it was cooked it, which did help. The tastes of the sauce were not evident in the original sandwich. If this indeed the way it was intended to taste, i would recommend trying something else. Someone at the table had the schnitzel and said it was very good. This restaurant just opened, so i may give them another chance, but so far i would rate this as the least impressive of the lowland group restaurants. I will gladly adjust this rating if i have a better experience in the future.

Horrible service. Came in this morning with in-laws. Ordered, then after sitting and waiting for literally an hour our waiter comes back and gives us a strange excuse about one of the orders being delayed due to not having the correct batter. Then, we wait another 10 minutes for 4 out of 5 orders to come out-still missing the last one. The waiter gives another strange excuse for the hold up, blaming the kitchen, and the fact that the usually dont open until 11. Not sure what that has to do with anything. The 5th meal comes out after everyone else is done. The waiter didnt bring water until we asked repeatedly, forgot my toast and said "I was hoping you wouldnt notice" when I pointed it out. Food was fine, but probably the worst service Ive ever experienced. Go to Hollander across the street instead.

Cafe Bavaria is one of the nicer German pubs I have been to. The night we went there it was pretty quiet but I imagine it is usually bustling. I really liked the space. It has the rustic look you probably would anticipate in a German pub but it is more attractive than most. Most German pubs are just the typical beer hall with lots of open space and simple decor. Cafe Bavaria is more of a bar setting with private tables. It works really well though. The beer selection is more than adequate and the pretzels were great. As long as those two things are good we are happy with a German pub/beer hall. On top of that, our server was very friendly. I only visit Wauwatosa once a year so I have only been to Cafe Bavaria once. I hope to change that on my next visit home.

Was excited for what I hoped would be an authentic german culinary experience and was disappointed. Beer selection was good - you really cant beat a good german beer in a large mug. 3 of us ordered the beer cheese soup and it was really good. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with spaetzle and asparagus. The chicken was good, asparagus ok - but the spaetzle was a big disappointment - more like flat noodles in a gravy sauce. We also shared two deserts -- german chocolate cake (very dry and tasteless frosting) and the bread of frankenstein (better - but still not great). Cool atmosphere. Expensive. Inconsistent Food. The owners may want to go to Germany and take notes. To be fair it is a new place -- so we will go back and try it again...

Went there for the 1st time last week with my family. Food was good in taste and size of helping. Found a good section with lots of families as we were there with 2 kids. While my wife was walking around as our baby was getting irritable, she noticed our waitress walk out, take out her shoes (not sure why), put them back and just walk in and go back to work. I did not complain as I had no proof whether she would have washed her hands after entering the kitchen area. The very next day 3 of us had stomach infections of varying degree. My son vomited and had to miss school. Didnt expect this level of hygiene. Wont ever go back.
