Was looking for pleasant dining experience & had heard favorable reviews so decided to try it out. Arrived to empty foyer & restaurant not busy, but had to wait 10mins for hostess to seat us. Server was exceptional, polite & attentive. Salad bar had not been refreshed so it was slim pickings. What was there was good though. Was told prime rib available, then on ordering were out of prime rib, so we both ordered chicken, mine was Chefs Special. Chicken encrusted in parmesan, sounded good with garlic mashed potatoes & snap peas. Man was it a special, the first bite was suspect, texture not quite right but was eaten with potatoes & peas so I kind of ignored. Second bite was the clincher, completely raw!!!! Yes RAW, I about threw up!! I was in complete shock that a supposed 3 Star restaurant would serve this! The lighting which I forgot to mention was dismal, (menu reading was hard), was so bad my husband had to get out pocket light to inspect the chicken to confirm it was raw & i wasnt crazy. Not even partially cooked! We called the owner over who whipped the plate away to inspect. Returned momentarily to inform us the timers for the chicken got mixed up! At that time my husband began checking his chicken which was undercooked, not raw though but pink inside. At that point our meal was ruined & neither one of us wanted to eat another morsel. We were told our whole meal would be comped. To our surprise we opened the book to leave a tip for our server who was wonderful, to find that we have a bill for my Husbands meal. Needless to say we will not be back & I will be calling Health Department first thing Monday as no restaurant should be relying on timers in this day & age. Meat thermometers should be the standard so human error with timers cannot occur. While posting this the day after our visit I realize there are two other terrible postings for the same day. Good luck & eat at your own risk!

If you are looking for a really nice place to have a quiet dinner, look no further than the Brass Lantern. The service was friendly and fast. The atmosphere was quiet and dimly lit to give the ambience you would like if you were on a romantic dinner for two. The food was great! My wife had the prime rib, melted in your mouth and very flavorful. She ordered it medium rare, and it came exactly as ordered. I had one of the specials which was a marinated bison flank. It was absolutely wonderful. I had a bison burger before, long ago...so I didnt know what to expect with a different style of meat. I was pleasantly surprised! Extremely tender and full of great flavor. Everything was exceptional, right down to our side salads. You must stay for dessert as well. The Turtle Pie was really good, the dessert menu was full of tantalizing treats. We decided to stick with the specialty. And the prices, not too bad really. On our way out, the owner made a special trip out the door with us to say thank you and get to know us a little. Very nice touch. We will definitely be back!

We were visiting the Kenlake State Resort(which was great) and had our anniversary dinner at the Brass Lantern last night. We ordered fried oysters as an appetizer. Both my husband(who was raised in Louisana) and I ate one each and explained to the waiter that the oysters had a strong taste. The hostess came out and listened to our complaint and said they ate the oysters and they tasted fine to them. We learned in Louisana to never eat a strong tasting oyster for this could result in gastric problems which is never enjoyed on a trip or at home. They would not deduct the cost for 5 oysters from the bill. Needless to say my side salad was all I ate and my husbands entre was not the greatest tasting roast/mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy. The reviews in Google were good but we failed to read the dissatisfied reviews - will not do that again. This was truly the worst time meal weve had in long time of traveling to state parks.

We have been enjoying the Brass Lantern for 30 years when it was a 5 star restaurant. It has slowly gone down hill. Tonight we decided to give it another try. My husband ordered the large ribeye because the prime rib was not available. What we got was a large piece of meat curled up on the end like it had been pan fried. It was well done (we ordered medium rare)but juicy. There was no evidence of marbeling as you would find in a ribeye.. It had some flavor but almost like it had tenderizer on it and it was tender but with a sirloin steak characteristic. We honestly feel we were served a sirloin cut instead of ribeye. We did tell our waitress and she apologized. I really didnt want my husband who knows his steaks to make a scene.. So here you go. I hope you can improve..... 6.30.2016. They do sell alcohol and They are reasonable priced and made well-the salad bar is still very good. But we wont be back 70$ poorer.

What a fantastic dining experience top of line atmosphere in food and dining. These people here are the finest of anywhere I have ever seen. What shame I can only give them 5 stars, 10 would be more like it. Cant wait to return again to see this family owned restaurant with this great dining experience, The steaks rate 10 stars along with the seafood. Service matches the food 10 stars along with the waitress

Really good. Family of 4 enjoyed our time here. Everything we ordered was very good, from the cheeseburger and fries to pork flat iron and the sirloin steak to the salmon. The service was very attentive, drinks never was empty. Was asked several times if we needed anything and was everything good, not in a pestering way though. Definitely try the Brass Lantern if you havnt before.

We were just passing through the town and decided to stop in and get some dinner, the food was phenomenal! The filets were delicious and very tender with delicious snap peas, baked potatoes, and grilled shrimp! The staff was very polite and nice. We have absolutely no complaints! Plus I got a margarita that was perfectly mixed... A+
