I decided to drive from Greendale to the Lakefront Colectivo to take a nice walk & have my favorite coffee with my dog. On my drive it was getting warmer& I realized I couldnt leave my dog in the car to get my coffee. Should I ask someone going in to purchase it for me ? I pull up and notice that the park & patio were not full. I parked right in front of the back entrance. I called Colectivo explain I right in the back , I have a dog I cant leave In the car , I have cash could someone run out with a small mocha ? A few seconds went by & Micheal said no he could not do that. I said you cant take a couple seconds to run a mocha out the back I have cash. And I would have gladly given extra. Micheal laughed & said he had a lot of other things to do. I said ok have a great day, he wished me the same. So I take my dog ,water & a warm Starbucks refresher drink & go on my walk. Come back , get in the car & notice a Colectivo employee delivering food to people on the patio. What did I do wrong???

Alterra has the most amazing brewed coffee and espresso products. The bakery and breakfast products are delicious as well, but the real reason to set foot in Alterra is the coffee. I have tried coffee from small local roasters all over this country and Alterra is number one on my list of top 3. Number 2 on my list is the Blue Bottle Coffee Company in San Francisco. I rated Alterra excellent because of the quality of their product. Keep in mind, I am a coffee fanatic so for me the most important aspect of a coffee shop is the coffee. I dont care if the service is slow or there are comfortable places to sit. Get my coffee right (or better yet, perfect) and Im happy. If you want fast service, go to Starbucks. If you want European style coffee, go to Intelligentsia. If you want strong, American, perfectly roasted, delicious coffee then Alterra is the only place to stop.

I ordered a cinnamon roll. Ive been to Colectivo before, and really enjoyed it. This trip was no different. Despite rolling in ten minutes before close the staff were super nice to my friends and I, and were exceptionally polite when letting us know that theyd be closing. My cinnamon roll was delicious, although Im docking a star because I asked them to warm it up. They did so, but then placed the cinnamon roll into a paper bag, with warm icing... I could see why theyd do this if the order was to go, but I ordered in. Im assuming it was just a slip up due to it being late, and chose not to say anything. Overall the staff are awesome, the food is great, and the prices are pretty competitive! I would recommend this to anyone looking for some good bakery, or caffeinated beverages on the lake front.

Food this time was mediocre compared to our visit a year ago. After ringing up our order they told us they were out of one sandwiches we ordered and needed to choose another. We joked to the cashier we wanted the 25 cent refund and we both laughed, he gave us our number and we found a table. Then a woman came up to us and told us we had to go back downstairs for the refund, we joked it wasnt a big deal at all, but she was insistent we had to come back down or their inventory would be off. We waited a while for our food. Then they brought my cheese melt without bacon (which I had paid $2.25 extra for). Their "fix" was throwing bacon on my sandwich and throwing it on the press for a few extra seconds. Bacon was cold and was not thick cut like it was last year. Definitely a let down from our last visit.

I came in here few times, and I liked the place. However, yesterday I was so annoyed by their Barista, an African American. He showed lack of respect to customers and the place as a whole. He spoke to us in a rude manner, and seemed to be rushed even though he was at the register, and no one in line and plenty of workers. We thought hey, we should of known what to pick before stepping in to the register. Then as we waited for our drinks we heard him mocking customers that came in after us for their look, and how they spoke. He then stepped over the counter, were they serve the food to customers, to kiss and great his girl friend. I mean COME ON, not were food is being served. I hope that the management works on this individuals behavior because it was very despicable.

There are multiple locations in Milwaukee. The one by the lake is ALWAYS BUSY - even in the mornings but not as much as later in the day. However, they are NEVER CONSISTENT on their drinks! Sad face! While the other locations (Bayshore and Prospect) have always been consistent. I had a watery chai shake and now a watery tropical shake! Come on, they are pricey too. What a waste. So even though you would like to enjoy your drinks and food by the lake, for consistency, go to another location. I think it may be because they always rush the orders because of how busy it gets there. I want quality for the price Im paying! Alterra - yes go...the one by the lake - take a pass!

Free wifi... Until noon. Umm, okay? I suppose, it keeps out the mooches, but that is kinda silly if you ask me. Thats the downgrade. The atmosphere is pretty awesome, as many have stated. Plenty of nooks and crannies to find an huddle up in. Whether you plan to be there alone, or with a few people, there are plenty of seating options. Oh, and that is just the inside. With the outside patio, there is even more fun to be had. I enjoy the Malasa Chai, hot - because that is the way to enjoy a good tea. Looking for a good local coffee shop, stop on down. They also sport fair trade coffee and tea, maybe more some of the larger chains can pick up on that...

Great historic coffee shop by the lakefront. Parking may be scarce and crowds may be abundant - especially in the warm months - but if you live nearby and enjoy coffee, you should try and visit this place at least once. The food is generally pretty good, the coffee is great, iced drinks are always done right, and the variety of places to sit and enjoy is great - whether outside, in the main hall, or upstairs. Only issue has been that many have wished they had more bathrooms. Overall, a very nice coffee house.

I love, love, love this coffee shop. I travel on business every week. While on the road, I work out of coffee shops or libraries. This coffee shop is definitely on the top of my list because of the building, the many nooks and crannies for you to work from, and that the coffee shop is opened till 10pm on Sundays. The thing that really makes this place stand out is the historic building and the old water treatment equipment. I will definitely come back to this coffee shop whenever I am in town.
