The Press Room is a small restaurant / bar located on the strip in Shepherdstown, West Virginia that has to be the finest gem in the area. Decor ***** Service ***** Appetizer ***** Entree ***** Desert ***** My wife and I happened upon the place during the annual "Town Days" festival. Open for snacks during the festival, we ventured in, sat at the bar, and ordered a small snack to get a load off of our feet and nourish our bodies before venturing back into the streets. I tried the fresh Mozzarella and tomatoes while she had the Humus. I later learned that the Press Room makes their own fresh Mozzarella. The tomatoes, marinated with a delicate blend of olive oil and spices, perfectly complimented the fresh made Mozzarella. The Humus was fresh with just a hint of garlic. So good were our snacks that we made reservations for dinner. Nine PM was the earliest available slot. We took it. Arriving a few minutes before nine we were greeted by Debra who cleared a table and seated us within minutes of our arrival; we were seated and ready to dine just before nine. We shared the Grilled Shrimp with White Bean appetizer. Delicious. The shrimp had the right hint of spices, the tomatoes were cooked but not killed, and the beans were also prepared to the right texture. We built every bite which included homemade bread and enjoyed this delicacy to its last morsel. For dinner I had the Pork Mellanesia(sp) served with mashed red potatoes, fine french green beans and garlic, and pickled onions. My wife, the Linguini with asparagus, Italian sausage, and Roasted red pepper. My pork was perfect, moist and tender. Her Linguini was, as only she can say, "out of this world". These meals were without doubt one of the best dining experiences weve ever had. This is in reference from a couple that dine regularly in DC and visit Chicago and NYC on occasion. For the test of the evening we sampled two deserts. I had the Lavender Creme Brulee. How the chef got the Lavender into the Creme Brulee Ill never know but it is an exceptionally creamy concoction with a hint of Lavender and just the right burnt sugar topping. My wife had the Late Harvest Red Wine and DeFluris Truffles. She closed her eyes as she tried the truffles and a sip of wine and whispered, "I think Ive tasted a piece of Heaven". I think she liked it. The decor is modern bistro. The tables are comfortable and spaced to allow for an intimate evening. The wait staff is knowledgeable of the menu and can recite the specials with the air of having sampled them all. Their friendly and professional service speaks volumes for a knowledgeable staff is an area where many small town restaurants fail. Its evident the owners take the time to train their staff on the menu and standards of service for a waiter. Never was my glass grabbed by the top, the true sign of a diner class waiter, but always from the bottom. We will return to this small piece of wonder in Shepherdstown. We cant wait for the seasons to change and for another voyage into the wilds of West Virginia.

I wish I could give the Press Room 6 stars, not just for inviting, warm, beautifully appointed dining room, not just for the exquisite food, or for the flawless server Bryan, and the warm greeting from Alyce. I want to give them 6 stars because I had such a wonderful time there, I forgot I had let my knapsack(with important medications) under the table when I left.(where no one could expect to see it) When I called back later, (frantically) at 11.15 p.m., not only did I find out that the staff had been calling everywhere locally to try to find ME to return it to me, but a lovely women named Laurie(who was about to leave) stayed another 30 minutes until we could race back to retrieve it. I believe these wonderful people raised the bar on the definition of a "full service" restaurant. Exquisite food/service/atmosphere-and heart-such a rare and welcome combination.

My wife and I ate there on Saturday evening, Sept. 3, 2011. We were a bit early in arriving, yet despite having a couple tables available, they wouldnt seat us. When they finally did, service was very slow. Our cocktails were watery. My wifes appetizer was a special, carpaccio, which was very light on the beef. My grilled shrimp with beans was tasty, but given the type of presentation, it would have been much better had all the tails been removed (after removal, the tails would tend to get lost in the sauce). My spaghetti carbonara entree was a special for the evening, which they almost ruined by adding red pepper flakes -- cmon, its carbonara, its comfort food, not spicy food. My wifes fish, ordered rare, came dry. It seems they were just trying too hard, and the cost wasnt worth what we got.

Wish I could comment about the food, but didnt have the chance to taste it. The hostess was not friendly and seemed stressed for no reason. We werent sure why we were treated so rudely, but they seemed to be making all the patrons uncomfortable. Tons of empty seats but they still made us wait 20 minutes... And the bartender gave my friend a hard time about her Virginia drivers license even though it was 100% valid and she is 25 years old... He was rude as well. Just such a strange and unpleasant experience. Felt compelled to write this review. Left before we ordered.

We love to eat out and try different places to eat. We found this place by using Google and looking at the menu with the reviews. It seemed like a great place to eat and were we pleasantly surprised. The hostess was very nice and seated us immediately (we did have a reservation) Our server was Mike who was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very personalliable. I had the raw oysters for appetizer and my wife had the grilled calamari. Both tasted excellent as did the rest of our entire meal all the way to the desserts. We highly recommend coming here.

Not what my friend and I expected, the owner of our b&b recommended them. A little more pricey than we expected in a small town eatery. Food was good and our waitress was very nice. If I get the chance for a get away weekend with my hubby I would return for a nice dinner.

I cannot say a bad word about the Press Room. Amazing food, amazing service, and the price is relatively fair for what you get. It is the only local place that doesnt overcook my scallops. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Press Room. :)
