Having been away in a land of beef and dairy for many years, we always look forward to good Mexican food when we visit. Our Mercedes experience this time was one of the best weve ever had. The humble digs May disguise the deliciousness to some, but for us, it just screamed of Awesomeness! Youre greeted by some super friendly folks at the counter where they take your order. Theres roughly 10 items to choose from, all of which are made in the back by a group of ladies who I would venture to guess have a lot of practice at this. Theyve got the standard Jarrito pop choices, milk, water and my personal favorite - there takes on water, strawberry or rice. Im pretty sure the strawberry water is just water with strawberry preserves incorporated, but either way it is really good. If youre feeling hypoglycemic, this will change things very quickly! The food here is absolutely unreal. They have hands down the best sopito that weve ever had. And while we hadnt tried them until last week, we had them at a couple of different places and this one stood out. Incredible flavor, a good portion size and something that is set up to share. The tamales here are also absolutely incredible. The ladies in the back or sitting there making them while we were waiting at the counter. The most exciting thing however, was the fact that when we needed a few of them up the next day, they were just as good if not better. All that time to soak up the juice and marinate in itself made a big difference. Finally, the enchiladas were really really good as well. The combination of this place being a hole in the wall, having amazing food and having employees that are very interactive and really enjoy their work make this the sort of place I would give Seven Stars if I could. We are really looking forward to making this a regular stop on our culinary adventures!

A truly authentic family-run Mexican kitchen. Mercedes - la madre de familia - makes the tortillas by hand for every order. Instead of the typical slop-style beans that most restaurants serve, Mercedes serves whole white beans that arent mashed up and cut with lard. The atmosphere is friendly and low tech, not the kind of place you would go for a romantic date. But as a "loncheria it totally fits the bill. Their horchata (rice water) is tasty, but not typically indicated on their hand-written wall menus, so make sure to ask for it. Lunch plates are super-filling and around $5-6 bucks. Parking is tight and kind of a hassle, but well worth the trip no matter.

In town from Seattle for a conference. Upon a recommendation from a friend, I made this my first stop before checking into my hotel. I'm so glad I went out of my way for it. 2 Carne aside tacos served with well seasoned beans and rice was about $6.50. All of the salsas on the self- serve salsa bar were excellent. It's what I imagined homemade Mexican food would taste like. Only drawbacks were beverage selections limited to canned Coke and Pepsi products, and no chips or guacamole in sight. Based on other posts, I didnt expect much decor- its not important here. Absolutely you should go here. I will be back the next time I visit Yakima.

Love, love, love ordering from here! They have actually moved a few doors down into the new building on the corner of 56th and Tieton and they also offer a drive-thru service. Be sure to call ahead since they are so good they get very busy. I usually enjoy her Enchiladas de Pollo, which I occasionally switch for her Taco Supreme, but my family loves her Chiles Rellenos the most. Definitely a place to try of you are in the area.

DELICIOUS! Honestly, the nicest people and amazing food. Quick service and excellent prices. You can get it to go or dine in. The salsa is great (mild even has a wonderful flavor, but without being spicy at all). We recommend the big burrito, torta, tacos (without cilantro and light on the onions), rice and beans. Extra parking a little west of the front of the building. Enjoy!

I love mercedes! I first began coming here when they first opened in 2002 or 2003, and Ive been coming back ever since! If youre coming here for the first time, try the carne asada big burrito - its fantastic! The sopitos are also a favorite of mine here, carne asada is definitely my meat of choice. The best value in my opinion is a tamale! At $1 each, these are great!

This is the most amazing food I have ever had in my life!!! Mexican good can be hit and miss because a lot of restaurant food is very bland. But this food has so much flavor! We got the enchiladas, tamales, and tacos and they were amazing! We went on a Friday night and wanted to get some more on Sunday but they were closed..... even though Google says they are open.

By far, the most wonderful Mexican food I have encountered. The family who owns this business is so sweet! I didnt have cash and they let me come back the next day to pay the bill. The next time we went they gave my kids a free drink. This is our go to restaurant for delicious food and doesnt break the bank!

Amazing food. Great tacos, rice, beans, and tamales! And fresh handmade tortillas! And the salsa is on point! Thats hard to find. You will absolutely fall in love. They could definitely charge more for the quality. If you havent been there, you are missing out

Small, neighborhood restaurant. Very authentic, but I dont know what region the food is from. They have good handmade tortillas, but I dont personally like those pink refried beans. Not like anything Ive had in Mexico.

If you havent tried this place yet, youre missing out bigtime. You wont want any other mexican food again. You simply cant get more incredibly tasty food for your money. My favorite is the big burrito.

Superior, authentic, family-owned/run, hole-in-the-wall place. Very friendly staff, quick service, eat-in or take-out. Yummy at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Great place to eat, kind of small but the food is great, I would really recommend the tamales or the sope is the biggest and has the best flavor in town.
