Trails End is a place that I had heard quite a bit about, but never managed to get to until recently. It was worth the wait, however, as it is probably my favorite place to have a nice meal in Snohomish County. Trails End is located just north of town on Maple Avenue. Parking can be a pain on weekends and game days, but its generally not too tough to get to. When you get in, everything is presented very nice, but in a very non-extravagant way. Its a typical gastropub as far as decor goes; lots of wood and lots of televisions. The beer and wine list are great. Lots of varying styles and some harder to find brews. Bonus points for having multiple high quality cider choices in there as well. The menu isnt exactly daring, but its pretty cohesive. Steaks, pastas, sandwiches, pizzas. Most food I saw coming out seemed to be presented with care, despite being fairly straightforward. I had the Mac & Cheese with Bacon. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the blend of cheeses was perfect, with the fontina and gouda complimenting the sharpness of the cheddar. My wifes steak was very good as well. Very close to the top tier downtown steak houses, but it was much cheaper. All together, we escaped with drinks and dinner for under $60. Im not sure Trails End will ever get a Michelin star, or anything, but they make a damn good meal that would play well in a foodie culture like downtown. The fact that a place this good exists so far outside of town and is priced so well is probably its greatest asset.

I first visited Trails End last year. The staff was both courteous and knowledgeable, and the food is fine Bistro quality. The beer selection is astounding. Being a dark beer drinker, I am often disappointed by the bars and restaurants in this area. Such has never been the case at this establishment. On my first visit, I ordered the Rib-Eye steak. I ordered my steak Chicago style,(also;Philly, Boston, Black and Blue, etc)which is not a style most restaurants can handle. It involves getting the cooking surface extremely hot so that the outside is seared and the fat is caramelized while leaving the inside of the meat blue rare. The chef came out to talk to me herself to verify what I desired and admitted that the grill wouldnt reach temperatures high enough but that she would do her best. And while it wasnt exactly the style I wanted, the meat was very flavorful and delicious. On my next visit, I ordered the same thing and the chef came out to tell that my request had prompted her to purchase a grill that would get to the high temperatures needed....Wow...And yes, my steak was perfect. The staff learns every new beer that comes in and makes recommendations every time I visit. This place is my home away from home anymore.

Its a popular place. It was very busy and lively. The service was ok and the food was ok ish. I gave three stars because the food did not warrant the price ,in my opinion. I had the French dip. It was decent and the meat was lean which, to me, is very important. I hate getting a big ol wad of fat or gristle in my mouth. Ruins the whole meal, so for that I appreciated their French Dip. It was 15$ and for an extra buck (now 16$) I had the grilled onions added. I chose the pasta salad to accompany my dip which I absolutely hated. It was dry and the flavor was kinda bitter. Im not sure what their target flavor was but it didnt suit my taste. My friend had the Reuben and said multiple times that it was tough. But he was really hungry and the waitress didnt stop back by, so he ate it . He would have sent it back had she checked on us. I dont know if Ill go back.

Always tasty, with delicious special menus that change regularly. The only downside to this place is that they dont take reservations (even call-ahead ones), so most evenings its about a 30-45 minute wait for a table, and weekends out can take over an hour. The food is worth it, but this is for sure not a place to go on a Friday night when youre already hungry. During evenings and weekends, my advice is this: Go when your stomach is just starting to remind you that its been hours since you ate, but not when anyone in your party is using phrases like, "Oh Im so hungry, I just worked out!" or "Man, I could really use a snack before dinner..." or even, "I hope they have free bread!" They dont have free bread, and the delicious smells youre steeping in while youre waiting may drive you to the Kingdom of Hangrydom way sooner than youd expect.

I brought my family and friends in a couple weeks ago to try this great new place called the Trails End Taphouse & Restaurant. When we walked in there were only three other tables seated in the entire building...it wasnt busy by any means. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our sodas (we were sitting next the the soda machine and could have gotten them ourselves). It took nearly 50 min to get sandwiches. In fact, during the time we patiently waited, it did eventually get busier and all of other customers who came in considerably later were served 20 and 30 minutes before we ever were. We left completely embarrassed that we had invited others to join us here. A week or so later, I emailed the manager to first share privately about our experience and received no response...not even as much as "Thank you for your feedback."

Update: Got in contact with a manager who was more than happy to listen and do his best to resolve the issue. Will be trying again and will give an updated review. Came in, took over 10 minutes just to get water. Food had good flavor but you couldnt bite through the steak on the steak sandwich, took excessive force to rip it with your hands even. Steak was well done when I ordered medium-rare. Food was also cold by the time we received it. Felt like we were a bother to the staff even though we were only checked on once the whole time we were here. I would understand if they were packed but they werent. At least the waitress made took my steak sandwich off the check. Overall wont be coming back and will recommend against it. Waitress was extremely rude

Maybe we just came on a bad night. It was suggested to try the tap-house instead of another restaurant we were planning to go to. The beer was good and service was good but the food not so much. I ordered the ribeye which was very tender. However, everything on my plate tasted as if the salt shaker was spilled on it in certain places. The waitress asked me if it was good and I told her my opinion which she stated that sometimes they put too much salt on the food for even her taste. My wife ordered the black and blue pizza which was burned on the bottom and had way too much bleu cheese on it. (To the point of being over powering). I really wanted to like this place but based on what we experienced I dont think I would ever go back.

So disappointed. Sunday evening about 6pm, waited a very long time for the waitress to take our order. Had to go find her. Then we waited almost 45 minutes for meal and found waitress to let her know we didnt have a lot of time left. She said 8 more minutes, and after 10-15 we let her know we couldnt wait any longer and we had to leave. After we told them we had to go, they came out with the steaks. They didnt apologize for the excessive wait and didnt offer any sort of comp. Steaks dont take that long to cook. Were they short-handed? No way to tell, because no one ever came over to let us know what the holdup was.
