We had salad and sandwiches. The food was ok, but certainly nothing special. What made it overall such a bad experience was how seemingly disorganized the whole business was. We came in and weve never been there before so we werent sure if we ordered and then sat down or waited to be seated. Eventually someone told us to take a seat, then it took quite a while for her to return to take our order. After our food was dropped off that was the last time we saw the waitress. We ate for a while and then about 10 minutes after we were done eating we still had seen no sign of the waitress or a bill, so we decided to just go up to the front counter to try and pay. Unfortunately there was a line of people just ordering bread and then leaving, so we had to either wait in a big line to pay for the food we finished 10 minutes ago or just cut in front of people and ask the cashier if we could somehow pay for the food we ate. We just wanted to pay for our food, but it was extremely difficult to do so. I would have just left money on the table and walked out if I had cash. I would not recommend The Bread Peddler for sit-down eating, but apparently their bread and croissants are quite popular because thats all the staff cared about taking care of.

I have had some minor problems with the Bread Peddler in the past but nothing too big. They have a few girls at the front counter who are very cold and seem disgusted that they have to help you. This morning, like usual, I go in and order my usual coffee and treat. Well the lady in front of me decided to take 5-10 minutes because she had a big order and a catering order. Although there were 3 girls behind the counter, they just stood there looking at me lost. Finally someone helped me and I ordered my coffee and treat. Several minutes pass, and still no coffee, and I was going to be late for work. I let the girl at the register know that I had to leave and all she had to say was well you can leave, she is making your coffee right now. Which the lady making the coffee just started to press the grounds and I had exactly one minute to get to work. Luckily I work a few buildings down. No refund was offered, no offer was extended to come back later to get it...nothing. Just the cold shoulder you would normally get from the oh-so-friendly ladies behind the counter. $4 down the drain, no coffee to start my day, and I will never return to the Bread Peddler. This was the last straw. If I could rate it 0 stars I would.

I have mostly dined in the bistro and had decent, albeit slow, but decent food and service. Recently Ive tried to visit the bakery twice in the last week and both times received horrible service and unpleasant annoyed attitudes. Their table number system is ridiculous and after seeing a waiter walk around with our order I approached and said its ours and was too "please be seated Ill get to your order next." Five minutes later with the food having returned to behind the counter we were served mediocre warm food and lukewarm coffee. We asked the coffees be remade, originally we had ordered mochas and warm chocolate milk with chocolate on top, the remade coffee was a simple lattee with no flavor and hardly any warmer. The coffee spilled on the table when served but naturally that was our problem. Everyone working seemed annoyed to help people and the table next to us and behind us all shared a look of distaste when were were told our food which was our food was not our food. Unless youre looking to be glared at, lied too and scoffed at youre better off eating at the market or broth bar in the building.

We have been going here since it opened. Its gone through its share of growing pains which includes staff service & friendliness & the bistro which was great but I think the limited menu contributed to its downfall. Sadly, the owner has decided to change the recipe of their previous glorious croissants to a more Americanized version which is bigger, color is pale, less flakey, & tastes less buttery. Our French family is heartbroken. The only other place for real French croissants is in Seattle! We use to special order big batches every 2 weeks or so but no longer. Weve tried to pass this message on to the owner but the staff seem so indifferent I doubt it will. They did reveal the formula has changed . They wrap the croissant with another layer of dough to make it bigger. Theres no longer email on the website to lodge a complaint either. Just goes to show you,Its always somethin!!! Bad croissants today, hair in the croque-madame tomorrow!

For a Western Washington restaurant, I was very impressed with the Bistro. The food was tasty. It was not frozen, salty, or covered in gravy, which automatically places it a cut about in in Thurston County. To drink I had Coffee, it was a little weak but better than the trendy bat guano coffee other s are serving downtown. To eat I had Eggs benedict with ham. It came on toasted French bread, which I enjoyed a great deal. It was covered with a tasty thin cut ham. The hollandaise sauce.. at first left something to be desired, a little more butter would have helped but it was a solid effort. The dish was sided with diced potatoes. They were good, but again could have been improved by cooking in butter rather than oil. I DO appreciate the lack of salt, that was a good choice. All in all one of my top 3 breakfast in Olympia thus far. I recommend it. Taste: 3.5/5 Cost: Moderate Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Will Return: 4/5

The ad writer seems to be the most knowledgeable of all about this place. I went in and asked for a loaf of plain bread. A crusty loaf of bread. I left with what the clerk said was their last loaf of plain bread. I tried it when I arrived home, the interior was a grey/tan color that was darker than I have seen unless it was rye. The worst of all it was like sour, sourdough, but like sourdough times five. The next time I went in and asked for plain bread I was getting three different answers from three different clerks. Unfortunately it has been my experience they dont have plain bread. If it is wheat it is sourdough to some degree. The three clerks were arguing over the type or name of the sourdough they use. So this is two fails in two visits to buy a loaf of crusty plain bread. Apparently they arent familiar with it.

Visited the BIstro for the first time and while the food/wine was excellent, the service was terrible. Made reservations for 7PM but was advised there was a mistake and 2 reservations were made at the same time so we had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table and there was nowhere to sit to wait. Waitress didnt seem to want to be bothered and the service was very very slow (even by French standards). THEN we found a parking ticket on our car, as well as all the other cars parked in front of the restaurant because we were in a Diamond lot apparently. I advised the staff of this and suggested that they advise the customers inside as well as put a notice on their door that parking in front of the BIstro requires payment to Diamond but they had no response whatsoever; just shrugged.
