This bakery is The Neighborhood Gathering Place we locals love and trust. The service is slow (so I never go there if I am in a hurry); otherwise, it would be too crowded... Everything they serve is delicious and of high quality: breads and pastries, sandwiches made to order, soups in cool weather, with a deli cabinet that includes pizza crusts you can take home to make your own, imported cheeses, locally smoked salmon year around, and more. Selections are better early in the day before they sell out. In the last hour before closing bread sells at a two for one price! Owners Gene Otto and Judy Mendoza are now gradually passing the business down to their grown children Carmen and Nolan--an Otto family tradition for 8 or more generations. The past year or two the SFSB has begun to serve dinner Thursdays through Sundays. Dinners feature choice local seafoods, meats, salads, fantastic pizzas made to order and baked in their big bakers ovens, super fresh greens and vegetables from local organic farms. Wines are by the glass or bottle--again, well chosen. Dinner service, unlike bakery service, is quick and attentive. Portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. Lovely little place that captures the essence of Olympia!

My teen daughter went to the bakery this afternoon to pick up a few treats for after dinner. The girl who rung up the items over charged her by quite a lot. When my daughter protested, the clerk argued with her -- the woman had doubled the cost of the cake as well as the macaroons -- only when my daughter insisted did the clerk huff away to prove her wrong. When the girl found out that my daughter had been correct when she was reporting the prices for the items, she did not even apologize for her behavior. Really?? Its not that hard to be kind to a customer even when you disagree. And for Gods sake, why the hell cant you be nice to a KID? No tip for you.

That rum ball tho... Bliss. Over the last two years my husband and I have tried the majority of their typical fair and I recommend it all wholeheartedly. Even the items that look like something you buy for an undiscerning child are fantastic like the whole wheat sugar cookie or gingerbread dinosaur. Their cut pieces of cake that I bought at 1:30 at the market then ate later are wonderful?! What sorcery is this?! Its had to have sat in the case all morning and its still blissful almond and chocolate pound cake. The pastries and bars will ruin you for others and bread wont last the day.

Bakery goods are delicious and fresh made everyday! Coffee is pretty good too, Im enjoying a cappuccino and a bacon mini-quiche as I write this! Haha! They have a great selection of still tasty day-olds that ate half off, I picked up a loaf of bread today. If any complaints, the parking situation isnt incredible, but I dont think its due to lack of effort. 4/5 would recommend if you have time to enjoy fresh made croissants, pies, scones and more! Inside or outside seating, here or to-go.

I find the grumpy ratings here mean-spirited. I have lived within blocks of here for 18 years and recently tried their yummy dinner out on the patio. The owner/chef came out and asked if everything was okay! This is a local treasure, not fast food. The price is honest, not like Micky Ds. There is a reason for the line and it is worth the wait. They are doing their best in a hot bakery. I have special-ordered rolls and desserts for the holidays and they do a better job than I could!

I Dont even know where people get off writing bad reviews about this place, People need to stop being so Pretentious. Haha, Im almost positive those people would themselves be even worse at customer service. Anyway, the SFSB is the Unofficial focal point and gathering center of the North East Neighborhood, theres a great sense of community here! Not to mention Everybody who I have encountered here has been very polite and courteous, Great Coffee, Pastries, Soup and Sandwiches..

Ive never experienced such bad customer service before. We stood around waiting for 15 minutes and were never addressed by any staff. In the end, I walked up to the counter and asked an employee if i could order, and he very condescendingly told me he was busy making coffee. In the time he spent verbally assaulting me, he could have just taken my order. We left and dont plan on ever visiting this place again.

Their food is amazing for everyday dining, or for special events. We LOVE their full spectrum of offerings for breakfast or lunch, sweet or savory, pastries or sandwiches, and much more. We also enjoy their Bistro dinners--best french dinning anywhere. Their owner and staff are skillful professionals who cultivate excellence.

Great neighborhood bakery, walk here regularly to get bread, treats, or breakfast. Service is exceptional. Staff is friendly. Recommend eating baked goods in the first few days purchased, goods are fresh and dont have preservatives. I sometimes pick up a doughball to make pizzas, bread or pitas at home.

Very frustrated by standing in line for awhile and not being greeted and then the final staw was after the woman who worked there had a friend come in and totally cut the entire line to get a cup of coffee. To me thats just bad customer service. I even live in the neighborhood.

I visited this bakery after spotting amazing looking cakes on Pinterest and Im pleased to say they tasted just as good in real life. They had run out of a lot of ingredients when we visited but our bagels were good and the cakes were fantastic!

Excellent food and drink, try to sit outside if you can, its a lovely space. Ignore the reviews that are grumpy about wait times and condescending staff, they have been nothing but nice to me and apologetic when the wait is long.

We first tried their food at the Farmers Market, and its amazing. We have to ensure we get to the Market early enough or they sell out of Cheese Sticks. Their Day Old baked goods are better than anything in grocery store chains.

I used to frequent this place for baguettes. I didnt bother with coffee, and only occasionally bought sweets and pastries. They seem like a fine bunch of folks, although I think the staff is not too permanent.

I like S.F. St. Bakery for the friendly, relaxed vibe. Love the rugalach! And the shortbread. And the cookies and the sandwiches. And the soup! Yum. Oh, and the gardens. Yes.

Great place to hangout in the morning. Friendly staff and an amazing outdoor seating area. The bagels and croissants will disappoint if youve had the real thing.
