My family and I have been going here for years and its by far my favorite breakfast joint. Great food, and great service is worth paying a few extra bucks for. Its irritating to me that people have left reviews about the women who work here not being friendly, but at the same time they say they had to wait a long time for a table. These women work their butts off to try and get you your food as quickly as possible, so the people waiting to be seated can get a table.. if you take your sweet time ordering, anyone is bound to get a bit short. (Its not rocket surgery, its breakfast. They have the same stuff as everywhere else, its just BETTER.) If you want a server who who has a perma-grin and talks to you in a baby voice the whole meal, go to Dennys or IHOP. The women who work here real, and if you dont like that, step aside because theres a line out the door of people who want to eat here! They serve local Dillanos coffee, which is awesome, and you CANNOT beat their Testy Mess hash browns. They will change your life. Seriously. You wont find a better spot in town! Dont forget to bring cash! ~Lindsay O.

Words of advice: Choose wisely the time you intend to go eat here. Its very small and very popular so you could end up waiting a long time to eat. If youre the lazy sunday morning type and dont go early enough then you might end up bitter like some of the other reviewers here because you waited a long time for food. The staff is not overly friendly- it is called the "Testy Chef" after all. That being said, I love this place and I really like the food both breakfast and lunch. If you sleep in late on sunday and decide to spontaneously take the wife and kids to Maple Valley for breakfast at 10am and the Testy Chef is extremely busy and takes a long time to get food dont complain and give the place poor reviews because youre the idiot... remember its the early bird who gets the worm.

This place must run on Hometown reputation. The atmosphere looks like half a Truck Stop and is reminiscent of a restroom by the linoleum tile and the smell of cleaning products. Their menu items are few and unimpressive. I ordered an Italian club sandwich and it arrived with turkey & bologna served on plain white bread. The coffee was like watered-down Starbucks. Service was casual, folksy, but nowhere near so charming as to balance out the quality issues. By its reviews, this place must be a beloved culinary mascot in Maple Valley, hearkening back to more rural, Trumpish times. Dont be fooled by the 5 stars tho. Unless thats an appealing cultural caché for you, Id recommend staying away.

The food is awesome! These ladies have been serving up some awesome food for a long time! Yes you will probably wait, its not a huge place and its popular. Yes its an old building and the parking is tight. Outdoor seating is heated for colder days, but awesome in the summer when its warm! PLAN AHEAD (what a novel idea) dont be in a rush, and enjoy! The pancakes are magical! They also have a drive up for coffee and to go orders. Check the hours, this isnt dennys, they arent open all day.

Not worth it. Thats the bottom line. 20 minute wait for a table. 50 minute wait for food. Food wasnt bad, but was nowhere near excellent or the "best in Maple Valley." I normally love hole in the wall joints like this, but their hash browns were cold in the middle, and the sausage gravy tasted like it came from the grocery store. Not going back; there are too many above average breakfast spots--even a few excellent ones--to waste your time with this sub-par locale.

The root beer float is generic vanilla ice cream scooped into a heat warped plastic cup (dont put it in the dishwasher!) and a can of Faygo root beer on the side. The burger, while flavorful, was of the same generic quality, with a rubbery bun (like it was microwaved.) The salad lacked even this little personality. The service was outstanding, though not enough to bring me back.

It is impossible to say anything bad about this place, the food is always fresh and hot! Make sure you bring an appetite if you come here for breakfast, the helpings are huge and great! Lunch is just as amazing, I love the garlic cheeseburger, you will reek of garlic for hours (totally worth it), make sure that you bring cash or check as they do not accept any plastic.

We got the Testy Mess with biscuit as our toast, and a side of gravy, which we drowned it all in. Then a pancake on the side, because why not. It was delicious and perfect and we only wish there was a Testy Chef Cafe back home in SLC! Perfect spot and even better food!!! Next time were in Seattle, we are coming back!!!!! Thank you!

I like mom & pop restaurants, and this is the real deal; One chef and one waitress. You want gourmet cuisine, look elsewhere. This is good grub and friendly service. Feed your face, and your soul. Theyve got a covered terrace overlooking the river. Breakfast and lunch. Cash or check.

This was the first time Ive been here after driving by it for over a year. The food was very good and despite the name, the servers were very personable. The prices were good too. Now, the best part is that they have an excellent view of the river. I really recommend it.

This is by far my favorite place to eat breakfast! The food is outstanding and the service is awesome! if you get to sit at the bar, you can see the chef cooking all of your food and she is super nice and will be chatting with you while she cooks your food.

Simply one of those places you have to get away to and have lunch at when its warm, sunny, with a summer breeze going. The food is incredible and the staff welcoming as ever. Makes you want to kick back and relax the rest of the day with friends.

We love Testy Chef Cafe. Its particularly lovely in the summer when the porch is open and you can sit by the river. The food is decent, and the service is friendly, if a little slow. Its an enjoyable place, and we have been many times.

We rode our horses through the drive through and the server was kind enough to fill our water bottle twice since we were so thirsty. There is easy access from the Cedar River Trail so next time we will get a to-go order.

Good food and a convenient location - sometimes service can be slow when too many folks overwhelm them but that is not too often. There is a nice view out back on the deck. Good breakfast items in a typical diner style.

Brought a large family and although they arent setup for a larger party the staff was able to accommodate us and handle everything well. The food was excellent and moderately priced. No kids menu was the only down side.

Weve been loving the Testy Chef for years. Fantastic staff, consistently good food (the Best hash browns!), and a lovely river view from the deck. Come early or plan on waiting in line, this place is popular.
