Just came back from Udipi cafe and wanted to share my impressions. Being a food aficionado i visit quite a few places wherever i go. As i am in Bellevue for a couple of weeks i have been having dinner in restaurants around. Checked on Yelp that Udupi is having good reviews decided to make a stop. Since i had only a salad in the afternoon at office deli, i decided that i will have a south Indian thali. I was presented with two platters. One platter having one (Chapati or pulka whatever you want to call),a small bowl of rice(Basmati rice for a so called south indian thali) and about 4 quarter pieces of papad(Roasted to dark brown colour and i guess roasted at least a day before as they were chewy). The other platter is consisting of 9 small bowls. 2 bowls of rasam,2 bowls of sambar, one bowl of cabbage porial, one bowl of moong dal,one bowl of curds, one bowl of unknown curry and a bowl with two pieces of Jilebi(Are waah! Jilebi..Yumm) Now the Rasam: I dont need to give the recipe here as many of you know what rasam is and how much people like it as a soup with either rice or vada or anything, its a simple item with lot of flavour and tickles your taste buds. The Udipi is rasam was cooked a jiffy, i can clearly taste it that it was quickened, cooked in may be a minute or two by simple adding few spices to boing water and served instantly. The sambar was okay in taste but was stale, it was not fresh at all. Only thing was the Bread(roti or pula) i could eat with cabbage and ear a little rice with curds. So i kept the Jilebis to the last as my son does by keeping his best items so that i can atleast have a satisfaction. I take a bite ,chew and spit it out aloud! The Jilebi is Stale and is stinking!@#!. I could never imagine the ending to my dinner.... All this for a bill of 14+dollors including tax. All i just want to say to Udipi cafe a big thank you, you really made me appreciate my wifes cooking :-) I suggest people to stay away from this place.....

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! I requested this restaurant through Uber Eats and when I got my food I saw that they only packed the soup. I paid for Chetnipudi Masala Dosa and Sambar Idly, but did not receive this order. When I call the restaurant a Indian male picked up the phone and I told him what happened. His response was, "oh were you the one who ordered Sambar Idly and Chetnipudi Masala Dosa?" I said yes and he goes, "I forgot to pack the rest of the food and uber already left." so I ask him if I can get a refund and he said no I will not give you a refund call back at 6pm. It was 2:30 PM at this time. I told him that I can not call around that time and if he can just refund my account. He goes "No I will not refund, you can come pick it up at our store." The conversation kept going back and fourth but he started yelling and getting aggressive and hangs up on me. This is the WORST customer service ever and I will never go back to this place again. The fact that they charged me for two items and I got only soup is pathetic. I will be contacting Uber Eats for a full refund and I will be speaking to his manager.

Edit: I had a positive outlook of this place the first time I have been in Seattle. But on my later visits the service just got bad and not bearable. Ordering something at it took half an hour. Needed some extra chutney and asked for it. They never got it again. Things like that happened twice and I knew I ll have to change my opinion. The 2star review reflects the service only. The food tastes amazing for a vegetarian Indian. Old review: one of the best south Indian food. Idli is just so great that I ordered it every time even without looking at menu. Mysore masala dosa is good. Did not like biryani at any Indian restaurant in Seattle. But this place has one veg pulav/biryani that tastes good enough to satisfy. overall ambience may not be pleasing but food sure is.

If you are looking for a place to eat, no matter how hungry you are, DO NOT go here. Youll probably be better off going to a different country and eating. Itll definitely be faster. They bring half the order and will keep telling you the other half is coming soon for another half an hour. After which your hunger would have died and you wont like the food anyways. When youll tell the manager, he will just say sorry and run to the kitchen, not to be seen anytime soon again. One of the worst service I have seen ever.

I have not tested their food. Was there yesterday at 9:45 pm (they close at 10 pm) with my 5 months old baby. Was waiting for 5 mins to get seated. The guy waiting was busy and finally he came to us and walked us towards the table. In the meantime, a lady who was waiting came running and said kitchen is closed you have to leave. I am yet to taste the food and will write more later (if I ever go and get to taste their food). In general, I call this as poor service or lack of hospitality.

The WORST restaurant, low customer service, pathetic South-Indian food (definitely not south-Indian). There is nothing Udupi about the Udupi Cafe. I dont understand why it is named as Udupi Cafe, just to spoil the name of Udupi. I wish i could give 0 star for the review but i cant do that. It would be nice if they change their name from "Udupi Cafe" to "Some Food Cafe". Only people who have no idea about south-indian food can like it.

Not a great ambience or sitting arrangement, some of the food items are taste good. But, my biggest concern is why dont they have some notice saying, they dont serve any food item apart from Dosa after 9PM.I had to wait for about an hour just to know that they dont serve the item mentioned on the menu item. I wish they had made this clear some where on the menu ..... But,when they serve the items on the menu they taste good.

The breakfast buffet at Udipi cafe was awesome. It had an excellent spread catering to all taste buds. The hot masala dosas served at the table along with idlis, vadas and pongal make it a south-Indian food lovers delight. The only thing missing was some filter coffee, but one cant have it all I suppose. Would definitely recommend this place for people looking for a quick, wholesome south Indian meal in and around Seattle.

Food was very poor, that makes my Son to go rest room, Rest room has key which is tied with copper wire , one of the strands of the wire came out and hurts my finger and blood was coming out. reported the same to Front desk executive , i just got the comments that "wow", which hurts me further. reported to the manager again. After one day, still my finger pain on the affected area. Please take care of you.

Finally! A place with great south Indian food. We have been driving to Bellevue from Seattle to eat at Udipi almost every week since we discovered this place two months ago. They have a variety of south Indian dishes and all the ones weve tried have been supremely satisfying! Dont miss the Sunday brunch - great variety and so affordable.
