We have never dined at Newport Bay prior to last evening and, since we were in the mood for seafood, we thought we would give it a chance. We typically make sure any new restaurant we go to is highly recommended prior to going as our time (and stomachs) are precious. That was our first mistake. What an awful experience. We will never dine here again. First off, our server was in training, so the service was sub-par. I can give her a pass on some of this but, ultimately, customers should not be guinea pigs. Basic stuff was screwed up and there was no accommodation for things like attempting to get a simple substitution. Getting her attention was also a daunting task throughout the entire meal (even though there were few patrons in the restaurant) Okay, now to the meat of the issue. Let me say that my wife and I were born near Boston and we both know GREAT seafood. Even if we werent seafood snobs, the food here was still horrendous. I had a daily special (Scallops and Shrimp Risotto), my wife had a Salmon and Shrimp Salad entrée and my son had Cod and Chips. My wifes salad (yes a salad) was awful. I have never seen her gag on her meal before last night. Its pretty tough to mess up a basic salad but they did. The broken up pieces of salmon were dried up to the consistency of an old piece of jerky. The bacon was chewy and appeared to be undercooked. It was returned and she had no appetite for any replacement dish. The scallops and shrimp in my Scallops and Shrimp Risotto were mostly undetectable. The risotto dish itself was more like a think and cheesy bouillabaisse (sans the fish, and this is being kind) thrown on-top of someones attempt at making risotto. God awful. At least I didnt gag on any sharp or chewy pieces. That said, Im wasnt feeling that great after this meal. My sons meal was a kids meal so it was 3 pieces of mostly batter and fries (of which he peeled the batter off to get to the little fish that was attached). Another unsatisfied customer. Oh, yes, we also had the "New England" Clam Chowder. Okay. So, here. I would put them at about average (maybe a bit below average) for the area. Very few restaurants can make a genuinely good "New England" Clam Chowder--even in New England. That said, few clams were found and it tasted more like a canned chowder than anything from scratch. All this is a bit mind boggling, given the price we paid for the food. Which brings me to my final point, Value. Unless you get the special early bird menu, this place is expensive for what feels and tastes like a notch or two up from fast food joint. If not for my wifes returned salad, the meal would have come in at around $70. We patronize many top establishments in the Seattle area and the prices at Newport Bay are on par with (if not a bit more then) them. However, the quality, service and value are considerably sub par in relation. All of this is unfortunate given the few good seafood restaurants near our home but there are others to choose from and Newport Bay will no longer be on our list.

We arrived at this fairly run down looking restaurant recently and were greeted by a friendly but rather unprofessional person at the desk. We had made reservations but there was no need as the restaurant was 75% empty on friday night. We quickly realized we had found the local hangout for retired people which is cool but not exactly what we had expected. Our server was extremely friendly but again unprofessional and could not tell us what the special of the night was. He continued to be very engaging and friendly through our brief stay. When it was time to go we asked the server to call us a cab but unfortunately they dont do that at this restaurant. The food was mediocre and comparable to what you might get at a Dennys or Sharris style restaurant. So my overall evaluation is this restaurant is a very comfortable and relaxed place to eat but if you are looking for something special this is definitely not the place to visit.

DONT BOTHER Our bill came to $45 (before tax). We ordered two pasta dishes and an oyster app. A little more expensive than I anticipated but it wouldve been fair if the food tasted good. I ordered Garlic Prawn Linguini which is pasta, prawns, tomato, olive, caper, cheese. I dont know what they did besides over cook it and douse it in too much cheese. It was seriously awful. After just a few bites I told my server that I didnt like it but rather than waste it I would take it home. He brought me a box and suggested adding garlic salt. My husband ordered Crab Ziti which is similar to a macaroni and cheese with crab and small shrimps. It was a little better than my dish but not by much as it was very over cooked and mushy. I will never go back to this establishment again considering there are so many great restaurants in Bellevue.

I threw my sister an engagement party there last night in the private room, what started out as a 25 person party turned into 60 and I was only able to give them a couple days notice. They handled the last minute double in size so nicely! They let me customize the room and decorate it however I wanted! The room looked beautiful and all the guests raved about the food and drinks! Our server, Alicias service was outstanding! She worked her butt off the entire night and never stopped moving or smiling! Apparently she is new there but I never would have known! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to throw a private party! Thanks again to the staff! :)

STAY AWAY I have been to this restaurant several time and each time had problems, but this last time took the cake. If you wanted to be treated like a piece of s#!t this is the place to go, our sever Anna was nasty and rude she insulted our 6year old daughter and when she came and picked up the tab she opened it right in front of us and looked to see what kind of tip we gave her then she gave us a dirty look and turned and walked away without saying a single word to us. I have never been treated so rudely, as for me and my family we will never return to this place and if they have staff like this I hope they out of business for they deserve to.

My wife, my mother and I enjoyed a recent Sunday brunch at the Big Fish Grill. Warm beignets were served as soon as we were seated and the menu included lots of tempting choices. My wife ordered Dungeness crab cakes, I had eggs benedict with Dungeness crab, and my mother had a fritatta, and we enjoyed all of them. Service was excellent with our server, Tanya, returning to the table frequently to refill our tea and coffee. We lingered after our meal to talk in these pleasant surroundings and felt no pressure to vacate the table. Well be back!

Sadly one of our favorite places has gone way way down hill. Prices up and portions and quality down. If I took time to photo portions you would not believe its the same restaurant. Hopefully they will turn it around as there are now far better values now in Kirkland and Bellevue. Service all depends on who you happen to get.. sometimes great. Music can be loud or annoying depending on which genre they are playing , which varies.
