We really wanted this place to be awesome, what with all the great reviews and photos we saw (and you are seeing) on the web. So we hopped the ferry from our Edmonds home and set out to explore the Mossback. First, it is a super cool and cozy house. And we went on June 29, so the weather was nice. There was European-style outdoor seating (big tables, everyone sits together), which was also super cool. The garden just a few feet away had some artichokes that were almost ripe. There is a big, shady cherry tree, nicely hung outdoor lighting, and rustic appointments that make you feel like you are in your friends backyard. As soon as you settle in, if you have any brains at all, you realize you are getting a little glimpse into what Heaven must be like. Its really a magical little place, and its tucked just far enough away from everything that you dont hear noise or smell cars or any of that. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was super knowledgable, and attentive, as were his co-workers. Everything seemed to be on point, and then we ordered food.... We started with the focaccia and the "Happy Little Salad." The focaccia was plentiful, but came with three "spreads," (hummus, turnip purée or something like that, and one other that I cant recall) which were minuscule. Like, maybe a tablespoon of each, literally. It was bland bread, but moist. The spreads were uneventful, and very tiny. The kind of tiny that starts a conversation. Then came the salad, which was very small and was dressed with a smokey vinaigrette. That vinagrette might be the least favorite food I have ever tasted, and my girlfriend wasnt a huge fan, either. Something about a very artificial-tasting smoke flavor in the middle of a locally-sourced dish just did not sit right with either of us. And then the entrees came: she had the kimchee pancake, I had the piroshki. Both dishes came with only those items--no side veggies or anything like that. And my piroshki came with yet another dipping sauce that was loaded with an incredibly artificial smoke flavor. Whats with the fake smoke flavor? It was all over the place and it was kind of sour and nasty. And it kept us talking and wondering why? What is the motivation here? Are you trying to hide something? Is there a smoke fetish the owner cant shake? Do you love this flavor and believe that everyone else will, too? We did not order dessert, but the ladies next to us did, and everything they ordered looked divine, and the portions we saw were respectable. In short, everything about the Mossback was absolutely perfect, except the food, which was shockingly out of touch. We will absolutely give this place another chance, however, as we just have to believe we hit the place on an off night. Who knows. Stay tuned to this space, I will review again after our next visit

Local, fresh and imaginative food in an artsy atmosphere. My friend and I decided to take the ferry out from Edmonds to grab lunch in Kingston on a lazy Sunday. Reviews for the local restaurants were all on par so we asked a local who recommended Mossback. We werent disappointed. The restaurant is in a converted little old house a couple blocks off the main road about 5-10 minutes walk from the ferry. There are several cozy, eclectic tables in the front two rooms, an art covered bar area in a back room and several family style picnic tables in the garden. Drinks come in mason jars and the napkins are all hand-made from mismatched patterned cloth while the indoor tables followed the trend with mismatched colorful patterned cloths. It felt more like eating at a hippy friends house than a restaurant. We were there on Sunday so we only had the brunch menu. There werent that many options (about 10-12 entrees), but all of them sounded delicious. With a little feedback from the waitress my friend got the brunch pot-pie (they called it the garden pie) and I went with the quiche. My friend also got a herb flavored soda while I had the very tart (just the way I like it) limeade. Yum, yum and more yum. We had to pace ourselves not to gobble it up. My friends brunch pot-pie came in its own mini cast iron pan with a flaky crust covering the bechamel-green bean-cauliflower filling. The quiche was a delightful silky mixture with guanciale and caramelized onion. I was sad when I took the last bite. If I ever visit Kingston again (not like its really on the way to anywhere) I would definitely stop by and try their dinner menu.

Oh....my blue heaven!!! I had a polenta chorizo skillet and my husband had the corned beef hash and had to order a biscuit to sop the plate cause it was sooooo GOOD!! This place is amazing! The decor is what Id call kitsch, and was just so.......comfee. Its like you just got home comfee. The coffee was lovely, not bitter or harsh. The food was flavorful and fresh like they got the ingredients from a back yard garden. For dessert, we had the cinnamon roll bread pudding. Thats right cinnamon roll bread pudding. So good I dang near fell outa my chair. The cream was from scratch and just created a beautiful symphony all together. If you want something not run of the mill and totally unique, you have got to come here!!

Awesome place with a lovely atmosphere and excellent food. Really appreciate its commitment to locally sourced ingredients with an ever-changing menu. It was hard to chose an entree because everything sounded delicious but hard to go wrong because it was as good as it sounded! It is in a unique farmhouse with dining rooms, a separate bar area and outdoor seating for warm summer days and it is beautifully decorated with up-cycled decor. Fun place to randomly stumble upon while passing through Kingston for the first time!

We came over for a concert at the casino, four of us split pretty much one of everything on the menu. Clams & chorizo, fresh oysters, pickle platter, pizza, piroshki, beef heart, salad, kimchi pancake & chicken pot pie. Before 6pm everything on the left side of the menu was $6 and our waiter Phillip wore the cutest apron. Everything was excellent. Great service, we all had wine. Super friendly in a cute house surrounded by fresh herbs with a view of the Puget Sound.

My fiance and I made reservations the day before and went here on Valentines Day and had their 3 course set menu. This is easily the best fine dining experience in Kingston. The decor was lovely, the food was solid, and the staff was friendly. Next time Im in Kingston Im anxious to try out their full menu.

Mossback provided an excellant evening for our family. The menu contained food prepared from local organic produce. Be prepared to share with others at the table. Service, food, atmosphere and drinks definitely five stars.

Everything we ordered was not what we expected... it was better! Very scrumptious creations! And the four different mixed drinks were wonderful - something to suit each of our tastes. Service was prompt and friendly.

Amazing food! We had a large group and did family style. We all got to try a little bit of everything. I was really blown away by the experience. My new favorite spot. Best food in Kingston, nothing comes close.
