An awful, terrible experience. My wife called in a take-out order at 6:40 on Friday, and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Adding a few minutes for safe measure, I arrived at just after 7. The restaurant was a complete madhouse -- every table was packed and there were people standing around everywhere waiting for their take-out orders. Struggling to flag somebody down, I discovered my order wasnt ready yet. After waiting until 7:15, an older lady (who I presumed to be the owner) wanted to ring me up. As I took out my wallet, I politely asked if my order had been started yet. She immediately became angry and spat back, "Yes, honey, they packing it right now!!" She then jammed my credit card through the reader and slammed down a pen. After I paid, she disappeared, and I realized Id been duped. After standing around another five minutes, another guy asked me how long Id been there, and I told him my order was supposed to have been ready 25 minutes ago. The owner overheard us, and singling me out in front of everybody, shouted maliciously, "Honey, you nothing special!! Everybody else waiting just like you!!!" The whole episode was pretty embarrassing. They eventually finished our order at 7:25 -- a full half-hour late. When another staff member finally started to bag our food, she asked the owner where my order slip was. Glaring at me, she slowly replied, "He dont need one." Needless to say, there was no apology or thank you for my business as I turned around and left. Where did Kinza go wrong? First, they should have told us up-front that it would take 45 minutes, not 15 -- they knew it was a busy night. Their next mistake was being unforgivably rude; I have never been treated with such disrespect in any restaurant, much less one that purports to be authentically Japanese (in fact, a bit of due dilligence showed that the owners are not Japanese at all). In any event, it was completely unacceptable to be treated like this, even on a busy night -- the chaos, after all, was at least partially fueled by Kinzas deliberately feeding its customers false expectations to secure their business, which caused the backup inside. The irony is that the owner truly believed that wronging everybody somehow made it right. On to the food itself: it was unremarkable. Two scoops of steamed white rice, a green salad, and a small pile of dry, semi-fatty chicken. The sauce - served in a small cup on the side - was more like a runny soy sauce than a sticky, tangy teriyaki sauce. Compared to some of my all-time favorites - such as Moms Teriyaki in Seattle or Ichiban Teriyaki in Yelm - it was mediocre at best. Why its getting good reviews is beyond me. I certainly wont be back.

We just had the worst experience tonight. We have been going here for years at least once a week. We are definitely regulars. It was rainy and cold tonight and when we walked in, the only tables available in the front room were right by the door and a six topper. When we hesitated on where to sit, the tall young man that usually serves us said that those two tables were our only two choices, very rudely. They have a whole other side with about 8 tables available and there were two couples over there eating. I just told my husband, "Lets just go." Thats when the waiter said across the room, "Have a good night! Well see you next year!" Unbelievable! It is crazy to me how we have tipped him 25%-30% for years for his sub par service and this is how we were treated. Its not the first time he has been extremely rude. Follow up from last nights incident. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!! Just called Kinza to speak to the owners! The young man that was so rude answered the phone and said he is the owner and he started yelling at me. I tried to calm him down and say lets try and work this out I love your place. He said, I have been serving you for years with a smile on my face and I said, "And we have paid you for your service. We always tip you 30%" He shot back, "You think I care about your five dollars??? I dont care! Your husband has a weird energy about him and he has a bad look in his eyes!" I am not making this up!!!! Can you believe it?????? What a crazy person!!

Objective review. I walked in the place looked nice. It was a seat yourself style place. I chose a seat by the window. The waiter asked if I were alone I said yes. He told me the table I chose was for groups of 5 or more. He said I could choose any table on the other side of the wall. I chose the only seat by a window. The next waiter for that area asked if I were alone, I said yes. He told me I could not sit at this table and to choose another table. I looked around for other seats and noticed all the open tables were the same size. The other tables were taken by other small groups of customers. Tired of being rejected on my choice of tables and noticing all other choices were the same I began to walk out as the waiter talked to my back sarcastically saying "Perfect! Thanks so much, have a great day." On this day I was feeling very generous as I had received a big tip from a client. I wanted to pay it forward. This place did not respect the "seat yourself" aspect they have and asked me to move twice. I could not give any other review as to how the food was, the timing of it or even if the wait staff were friendly.

I love this place so much and miss this place so much. My family has gone to Kinza for sooooooo long. The restaurant is the most consistently delicious and diverse. The owners and family run workers are so kind and involved. I am writing this from Texas where I have been for the last decade. I am writing this review because the only restaurant on my list to visit next week when I come home is Kinza. Seriously. I crave Kinza more than any other restaurant in Washington. More than Pen Thai in a Bothell. More than Paseo Caribbean sandwiches in Fremont. Nope, I think about Kinza weekly. That salad and dressing! The simplicity of the teriyaki chicken or beef. The perfect rice. The unique teriyaki sauce. The sweet and sour chicken combo. The udon noodles. All of it. I miss all of it.

I went to this restraunt after ten years of being away from home. Its just as amazing as it was back then if not better!!! Great staff, great food. I recommend getting an extra side of salad dressing for the rice:) and go with the green salad instead if Miso if its your frist time. Even though the Miso is bomb. Its just the dressing is a classic.

Chicken katsu tough. Sweet and sour chicken over cooked and dry( kids would not eat it) Lady very rude. Came to the table a total of 4 times (order, salad, entree, check) signed the check for 10% tip (in Japan rude to tip). She had the gall to tell me I needed to look at the total and need more tip. I will never go back!!
