Terrible. I live locally and have been here 4 times, each time worse than the last. Why would I continue to go you might ask...? Well, my options are limited in this small community, however, I did hope that it would improve. The 1st time my wife and I visited was shortly after grand opening and the food was mediocre at best and the service was poor. We attributed the experience to the fact that the place just opened and decided to give it another chance. The next 2 times we visited, service was mediocre but we both ended up with upset stomachs later that evening so we decided we would not return. Unfortunately, though, over a year later we did return. My wife stated something to the effect that it must have improved by now. Our server was great, but the food.... oh boy... I was literally given a plate of lettuce lol. I am not confrontational, and in fact I would generally consider myself very easy going, but I was astonished. When my server came to check on us, I asked her to take a look at my plate and she stood there shamefully and said "I know." I pushed the shredded lettuce around and asked her where the meat was, or the cheese for that matter, the poor woman stood there cringing and just shaking her head while saying "I know." I felt terrible for my server who was clearly aware of what she had gotten herself into by accepting a position with this absolute joke of an establishment. She offered to comp my meal which I declined due to the fact that this is not a monetary grudge I have with this place; in a society that so readily accepts mediocrity, Las Brisas fails to meet even that standard. Ultimately, the server comped my meal anyways and apologized emphatically and I tipped her the difference because I appreciated her acknowledging how embarrassing the dish was. There are plenty of mediocre and better places to eat around Edmonds, however Las Brisas is not one of them. Save your money and disappointment and head anywhere else. The Cheesemonger next door is great, Even Taki Tiki beats this place. If you have to have "Mexican" food, try a local street taco off hwy 99 or even Taco Bell for Gods sake. 1 Star for the server, 0 Stars for the establishment.

The empororer has no clothes here. First, its a Mexican place, which implies to me that there will be good margaritas. Second, its beautifully appointed, nicely decorated, and has a good feel when you walk in, which would imply that the all-over quality (of food, service, drinks) would be impeccable. Not so. The margaritas we ordered were pre-mixed, and came straight from the drink gun. Its a busy place, surely they fulfill so many marg orders that they are compelled to do so efficiently, ergo the premix. But it was just awful. It tasted like Safeway economy margarita mix made in a hurry. I asked the bar guy if he could make the house margarita from scratch, he said no, its premixed. One more time: I ASKED THE BARTENDER, AT THIS (SOMEWHAT) UPSCALE MEXICAN RESTAURANT, IF HE COULD MAKE THE MOST COMMON DRINK ON HIS MENU FROM SCRATCH. HE SAID NO. To be fair, the food coming out of the kitchen looked great, and the people sitting next to us seemed to not notice that they were being taken for fools as they sipped their overpriced sour premix. But we figured that any place that calls itself Mexican and cannot make a margarita probably doesnt deserve our money. So we took our money and went up the street to this Tiki place, which, surprisingly, had the most satisfying margarita Ive tasted in Edmonds. It was a kind of sporty and funky place, but the quality of the food and drinks was very high. And the service was friendly, knowledgable, and attentive. And if you dont mind a little quirkiness in your milieu, its actually kind of awesome. No pretense, just quality. In sum: If you need a nice place to sit in the bowl of Edmonds, and you dont mind paying way too much for a bit of a slap in the face, this is your place. If you like quality, however, keep looking. There are plenty of other establishments to whet your action and fill your belly.

Since I”m one of those people who feels guilty ordering an appetizer as an entree, I only ordered their guacamole for a free appetizer I was given a coupon for (upon finding out they give you free chips and salsa, which I felt silly for not cluing into beforehand – what self-respecting Mexican restaurant wouldn’t do that?). I ordered a taco salad, which came with its own side of guacamole, and sangria for the main course. It was good – but let me say that Taco del Mar does equally well, if not better, on their taco salad. Las Brisas’ was just meh – your run of the mill taco salad you could make at home. (Although the spinach tortilla they crisped for the bowl was pretty fantasmo, especially since I told myself I wouldn’t try any.) And the plate came warmed, which is good in theory unless you have a dollop of sour cream on the plate … let’s keep the sour cream cold, shall we? Thank goodness, the double-dose of guacamole was tres bien (or should that be muy bien?). I’m slightly opinionated when it comes to guac, so I was relieved that that, at least, turned out well. I ate it all without a second thought. And the sangria was great. I’ve now had sangria twice in my life and it’s becoming a good tester for me, something I don’t mind trying at a variety of places because most of them are pretty different. And this one was significantly different than the last one I had (I sadly don’t remember where I had it, and it was recent – but give me an hour and I’ll remember). Red wine versus white, seemingly, and just a wedge each of lemon and lime, rather than fresh fruit in the glass. Verdict: Three stars (out of five). I’ll go back, but won’t be running.

Unfortunately for us here on the north end where Mexican food is at a minimum at best Las Brisas continues to disappoint. Dont let the wanna be upscale decor fool you. The nachos and tamales are pretty decent and thats the most positive thing I can say after giving this place several different attempts out of desperation for not wanting to take the well worth it drive to Ballard for the real deal like Senior Moose or Carta De Oaxaca which are both amazing and the service never fails to be delightful, friendly, and authentically gracious. Las Brisas is over priced for starters, food is ok but leaves you with the desire of wanting to have an affair. My husband and I will never go back. The waiters are rather clueless and personality is lacking beyond belief. So my suggestion is unless you are totally desperate dont eat here! My final and biggest complaint is we had ordered roasted jalapeños oddly they could not get it right. Under roasted with the seeds still attached burned our mouths, stomach beyond belief. Somehow if you can wrap your brain around this....not even an offering of water while they are watching us suffer from the experience. This is my first negative review in my 30 plus years in the hospitality industry. I love Mexican food but will never consider eating at this establishment again. Sadly and with regret I must say Ballard is not that far away after all.....
