WORST INDIAN FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! What was once a nice classy little restaurant featuring food from Northern India with amazing decorating, has obviously changed ownership. When you walk in the first sign of trouble is that there are no actual Indian people running this place. Then what was, at one time, a beautifully decorated interior, has now become a gallery for some horrid artwork. While there, my party noticed that the menu had shrunk incredibly and the prices had increased dramatically. When our server came we explained that we could have no dairy of any kind in our meal. The waitress talked to the cook, thats right, not chef, but cook. And the cook said he could accommodate the meal requests. This is usually not a problem in Indian restaurants because of amount of Hindus and Buddhists that reside in the Indian culture. Of course you would need some actual Indian people there to understand that. Unfortunately this did not stop every dish from showing up on our table covered in either yogurt or butter, save one. Most of my party were extremely upset! On top of that most of them ordered their food with a mild level of spicy heat for their meals. When the food arrived no one could eat due to the intense heat that were in their dishes. Me being one who loves spicy food tried the others dishes. After three bites my lips went numb from the heat. Instead of making a scene about how horrible the food was, my party just wanted to pay and get out. When the waitress asked if we would like boxes for our foods we declined. That was when the cook demanded to know why we didnt want to take our food with us. And pretty much sums up a visit at Taste Of India. i personally love Indian food. It is one of my favourite styles of food to go out and get, and i feel that it is a completely misunderstood style of cooking and tastes. And i have NEVER had a bad experience at an Indian restaurant, until now. Places like this are the reason that Indian food has a bad name. Places like this are why people are scared to try Indian food because of the intense levels of spiciness in the food. And places like this are what make people think that the Indian culture may be quick tempered and rude. If you are curious at all about Indian food then please, please, go out and give a try, i promise you will be delighted. BUT NOT HERE!

We had eaten Taste of India over the past 2 to 3 years. The last few times we had lunch there, I thought the food was cooked with love and soul. It was very good. It is not a typically lunch buffet. I thought it was a step up like a gourmet meal. I loved the goat curry. At first I thought it was cooked with peanuts, but was told that they didnt use peanuts as some customers are allergic to it. Of course the pita bread was prepared only when you need it, making it fresh. It has a nice selection of meat and vegetarian curries: from goat, shrimp, to chicken and spinnach and chick peas along with a 3rd curry dish that I couldnt recall. As you can tell, I am a meat eater. As for dessert, I finished it with fresh cut mangoes. I gave a 4 instead of 5 stars because the service was a little slow, but friendly and busy. I thought they could use another server. You cannot beat the price and for the food you get.

I hadnt been to this location since it was Ruchee. Upon walking in a staff member held the door for me but I was never greeted. I had to go up to the bar where it seemed all the staff was and ask if it was seat yourself as there was no hostess stand or sign and like I said no one that greeted me. I got a friendly apology and was immediately seated. The lunch buffet was good but not excellent. What I assume was my waitress did come by and ask me if I wanted more water to which I replied sure but she never Brought me any. I would like to think that was miscommunication. Eventually what appeared to be the owner or manager noticed my glass was empty and refilled it. The staff seemed friendly but not attentive. I love indian food so will probably try again even though I was a little disappointed.

The best food weve ever had. We dine out in all surrounding counties up to an HR. & a half from Richmond. Great American fare is always pleasant, but in all the Indian restaurants we visited, A Taste of India has a lunch buffet to plan for & return to eagerly. The atmosphere is calm & uplifting, serene & comfortable. The staff is quick to accommodate with pleasantness. I wish time allowed a weekly visit to that oasis of aromas & lovely dishes brimming with choices. Just go! The price is quite fair for the buffet. Set aside fried food & enjoy beautifully prepared entrees, desserts, salads & chutneys. The spotless tablecloths are replaced with each diner. Amazing place of great quality.

My fiance and I both got the buffet. We tried several dishes from the buffet but did not like anything. I decided to not base my decision off the buffet so i ordered off the menu and took one bite and could not eat anymore of it. It tastes like someone who is learning how to make indian food is preparing it. I have eaten curry chicken all over Richmond area and it has never tasted like that. The waitress came over we discussed what i didnt like about the food asked me where we usually eat and tells me they are now closed down. We were just there prior week, than proceeds to talk negative about all the other indian restraunts in Richmond. Not acceptable.

So I read these reviews and had to go for myself! After experiencing Taste of India for myself, I have to say I was very impressed with the restaurant! The food was fabulous! The atmosphere was relaxing! The decorating was very beautiful! The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable! I do eat gluten-free foods so I was pleasantly surprised to see many options are available on their buffet! Im glad to try out this restaurant for myself, I have reached the conclusion that there are alot of people that are out there that like to put out a negative review and who just like to complain! Everybody makes mistakes and let me tell you, nobodys perfect

My family and I have been going here since 1998. It was under different ownership back then, but the food has remained outstanding. Service is great, super friendly, and most importantly, the food is DELICIOUS. The owner is very nice and will take the time to get to know you (assuming its not too busy - which it usually isnt). Another server, older w/ a thick accent, is a very nice man and will take good care of you and your party. Location does suck (out of the way/a little sketchy), but the food is well worth it. Im not exaggerating in the title of my review. If I could eat at only one place in RVA, itd be this one.

I have had authentic indian food before from an indian owned restaurant so I am very critical of indian food. my boyfriend and i ordered the exact same thing here that we did at our favorite local indian place back in ny and it was 30 dollars cheaper in ny. i was shocked when we recieved the bill here. my food was very very bland. indian food is full of flavor and delicious spices but i did not get that here. the somosas tasted like they had been frozen beforehand and the sauces and naan were just not good. very expensive for mediocre food.
