I was anxious to try Metro Diner. I know they are new in town. I am a fan of Diners as you find a lot of comfort food on the menu. Metro Diner has just that. The first trip in I tried the Reubin Sandwich. It was good, but not great. It was more like a Sloppy Joe Reubin. It was messy to eat, and the server said you will need lots of napkins to eat it. Also, it lacked lots of sauerkraut. The 2nd time in I ordered the Club Sandwich & Onion Rings. The Club was great. I asked for extra mayo at the time of ordering. It seems they could not put it on the sandwich at the time when they made the sandwich. They brought out extra mayo. Otherwise, the Club Sandwich would have been very dry. The Onions Rings were perfect. The service was fair. Once they bring the order, than they forget you until it is time to pay. Never once at both times did either one come over to ask how was everything, or refill your water/tea glass. I will return as there are other menu items I want to try. The Metro has the potential to be great, however they will need to fine tune their meals and fix the service...

First.... We needed a diner in the West End. This one fits the bill perfectly. However, our experience wasnt great. Our server was sullen and the Hollandaise sauce had broke so it looked like A pile snotty goop on my plate. It tasted OK but visually rough. Back to wait staff. Its the most important thing to hire Happy people as servers. Who wants to have breakfast with someone who looks depressed! These girls have a total of 6 minutes with a client ... Is it too much to ask for a smile other than when the check is delivered? Most Managers hire those they relate to... Either physically or mentally ... A good manager will recognize what their business needs and hire that (happy, energetic, customer service minded) this manager obviously hired clones of himself. This needed restaurant will go under if service and food dont pick up. It just takes a smile folks!

I would have given this Diner 5 stars except for one manager "Jason" who was actually the one who seated me. I am not sure who thought it would be a good idea to hire someone so clearly non-personable and down right rude. Jason did not look me in the eye or even speak a single word to me as he seated me. He seemed like the most miserable human being I have ever seen. I wasnt expecting much out of this place after his sullen attitude towards someone who did nothing to him however the food was surprisingly excellent. Whoever is in charge of this Diner should seriously look in to his qualifications because he makes you look TERRIBLE. I made it a point to speak to the other managers working before I left and they all seemed cheerful and polite. Awesome place besides, Jason.

Came here with my work team for lunch. They were able to seat us quickly and there was about 20 of us! The staff was phenomenal. They made sure everyone was taken care of at every second. Not an empty cup for any of us. At my table we had many different food choices. Everyone enjoyed what they had. I had the crabcakes benedict. My first question was what part of the crab is it, she said the claw and i was excited. It wasnt as thick as I was expecting, but flavourful none the less. I would come back for a shot of something else as the portions are huge! Overall pleasant experience here, that makes you want to try it again.

I dont usually write restaurant reviews, but the Metro Diner in Short Pump is outstanding. I sat at the counter and was pleasantly surprised how friendly the staff is. They took my order on a tablet and my food was out in no time! The cook even came over to make sure my dinner was to my liking. I was also very impressed in how well the staff got along with one another. Too many times have I heard fighting and yelling coming from the kitchen in other restaurants. That is not the case at the Metro Diner. The staff is smiling and making jokes with one another. Overall, I was very pleased and will definitely return.

For a diner, the menu is limited but it seems a smart choice to serve only things they do well. My Philly cheese steak was delicious and their fries were crispy and well seasoned on the outside and moist in the middle. My wife raved about the shrimp and grits. She also had the challah bread french toast that was amazing. Our co-diner had the montechristo sandwich, which apparently had too much bread in it. The place is popular. Expect a wait if you come here on a Sunday during the day. But the turn over is fairly brisk.

I wanted shrimp and grits so bad I was there about 2 1/2 weeks ago dropping my daughter off @ school (University of Richmond) so I Googled shrimp & grits lol , i think Metro was the 3rd restaurant I was excited cause I jus knew they had it! Then the waitress told me something about grit cakes I wanted to cry but then another man came out , Im so mad cause Im horrible with names but he told us he could jus give use the regular creamy grits like I luv. Those were some of the best grits ever OMG! I cant wait to go back next month

5 star worthy!!! Excellent diner experience! Dont let the line nor wait time discourage you. We were seated in a decent amount of time & it is WELL WORTH IT! The food is delicious, modestly priced, the service is superb (that was a bonus: despite being busy, everyone was pleasant, smiling & very accomodating.) Helpful hint: the entrees are generously proportioned, so bring your appetite & a friend. Our 1st time, but it most certainly wont be our last.

Went there for lunch Sunday and the place was packed. Waited a half hour for our table. Must be a common occurrence because they have free coffee and essence water while you wait. Everyone there was very friendly and we all loved our meals. Good portions and a great menu. I had the fried pork sand which and it was excellent. It was pricey though...almost $40 for lunch for my wife and I and we didnt even have appetizers.

Good breakfast and lunch place in West end Richmond. Good portion of foods, reasonable price but kids meal is rather small. My 2-year-old boy was still hungry after having pig in blanket. Coffee and soft drink are a little too pricy although they are delicious and refillable. Various food choices, and they serve breakfast all day. Service was OK. There is always some waiting for about 10 to 20 minutes during weekends.

Went in and had to write in our names on a list. We waited 15 minutes and were sat at a table. It was super crowded. I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese croissant. My friend ordered the two egg plate. The atmosphere was friendly, but our server was super busy because of the incoming crowd. Food was filling. If you are looking for a decent and cheap breakfast spot for the family, this is the place for you.
