This past Friday was my second time dining at Monas Korean Japanese Restaurant with friends. I thought that overall the experience would be very nice. It was not. It became obvious that our waiter did not care to serve us. My friend even said our waiter was not good and when she asked for seconds on a couple of the small serving size side dishes, she seemed not to want to bring them to her and it took an unusual amount of time for her to bring the two dishes. We agreed she was being quite rude. Also not once did our waiter come to bring me a refill on my iced tea. My friends daughter was even sent to go and ask for a refill--otherwise it was clear there were not going to be any refills. Towards the end of our meal, our waiter brought the check. We were not asked how we were paying (nor how we were doing). She brought the check to me or at least on my side of the table assuming I was paying the entire bill. I picked up the check; paid the bill and even tipped the waiter as I always do, although in this incident she really didnt deserve it. I was hesitant at first to go online and write this review, but after reflecting again on the overall experience compared to other places Ive dined and the excellent service I receive when dining out at various restaurants, I had to write this review because its been absolutely the worst and only bad dining experience I can remember ever being a part of. As a result, I plan not to give this place any more of my money and time. The food was good, not great and definitely not worth sub-standard service.

I love Korean food and have been looking for a Korean restaurant that rivals one near and dear to my heart in Michigan, and Mona actually surpassed this past favorite in terms of price, amount of food, and food quality/taste. My boyfriend and I got the special for two and we had a feast for 36$ (special occasion). We had fried fish, pork bulgogi, rice, bean paste soup, egg soufflée and at least 15 banchan (side dishes). Everything was so flavorful and we were stuffed by the end. Our waitress was so lovely and attentive, and again for the price, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly!

Gal bee w/ fried rice $12. Bulgogi, steamed rice w/ mandu $12. Two gim bab rolls $3 ea. Shouldve been roughly $30 no? Billed for $74! It was take out. I was starving and in a hurry. The rolls are good but the bulgogi was under seasoned and no bulgogi sauce! So plain and boring. Definitely not worth the wallet rape. I call the place up and ask about the overcharge and Im told that the prices advertised on the site linked to this restaurant hasnt been updated in over a decade. This place is way overpriced. Youve been warned.

Its probably fine if youre an omnivore, but they arent very accommodating of dietary preferences. The pajeon says its a "kimchi pancake," but doesnt mention that it includes beef as well. They are able to accommodate large parties, though, as they have plenty of large tables. If youre looking to have a KBBQ experience was a crowd, this would be a good place to go.

Kalbi & Bulgogi perfectly marinated. Fresh crisp lettuce wraps. Steaming pot of savory mandoo soup. Glad we opted to grill the meats right on the table. Pure Awesomeness! Service was top notch - our server was very attentive. Highly recommend giving Mona Korean Grill a try. Will definitely be coming back to sample the many other selections on the menu.

I have ate korean food all over the U.S. and this place had to been the worst place I ever been. Really in the Hood of Newport News, Outside and Inside is dirty, the price is really HIGH, service sucks, dirty water, and so on. Side dishes were old and the place dont seem friendly. I wont ever go back and would not recommand it for anyone.

I found it just by riding down Jefferson Ave and I love Korean food, the resturant was clean, food was very good and the service was good. I was impressed with quality, variety and quantity of food for the price. I would recommend Monas to anyone who wants good Korean Food.

Dont let the outside fool you! Its a small place whose food has a big bang! We especially like the selection of Korean and Japanese food. Karaoke is also a fun thing to do there! The staff is very friendly. We highly recommend this place!

We love this place! The kimchi soup (s-1) is heaven in a hot bowl and the small dishes that come with every meal are always good. The service is good as well and they are always happy to help and bring more. Highly recommended.

It doesnt look like much on the outside. But they grow their food outside the restaurant that they use in the restaurant. The food is great and fresh and the staff are great as well.

If you want sushi or sasimi, go some other place, -they have "californiya rolls" or so instead. I can not estimate korean food - it seems OK to me, but I do not love it.
