Coming outta Sleep
Ive been looking forward to come here for a little while, I would see the restaurant in passing as I would come down Bland,I finally decided one Sunday I would come me and my kids for an early lunch, when we walked in and I approached the service area to be seated I could feel the lack of friendliness, and lack of customer service, I tried to be polite and friendly but for some reason there was an vibe of an attitude, I just tried to make the best of it, no smile no enjoy your meal, nothing, she brought us to our table and walked away, then another women came with a basket of chips and salsa and placed it on the table,no eye contact no hello!enjoy, just a blank face and walked away. If it had not been for our waitress her name was Megan, she was very polite and helpful, if it wasnt for her I probably would have not felt welcomed at all,and wouldve wanted to leave. After our lunch I asked the women that was at the service station when we arrived if there was a bathroom she looked at me with discuss and said in the back, like she was throwing me a bone,as I was leaving out of the restaurant I told the group of ladies in the front to have a good day, and all me and my kids got was stares and a hateful vibe,No have a good day back,or thanks for coming nothing. I felt very uncomfortable the whole time, I will not be coming back, Ill continue to go to Plaza" because they are very professional friendly and the food is better ,The environment seems a bit more festive at Plaza" I never had an issue at Plaza, they have the best Service, they really need a lesson in how to treat customers there at Juans it can really make or break a place..if they are treating me and the kids that way,it would make me wonder what they were doing to my food behind my back,No!!thanks!!

We were seated and ordered drinks, it took 15 minutes to get two beers, just to have them spilled when they got to the table. The first beer we ordered, they didnt have, so she offered another one, just to find out they didnt have that either. We ended up with two beers we really didnt want, that got spilled upon arrival. The server brought 4 napkins to clean it up. She said I will get someone to clean this never did. Table began to dry and get super sticky/tacky from the beer. Instead of cleaning up the floor they just put a wet floor sign over it and it dried up and my boots are sticky now too. We asked a few times for white sauce before we received it. And... We were served our entres without any silverware. My food began to get cold before I received a fork. The food we had was good, just the service could have been better... And it could have been a bad Night for her, but I couldnt get over having the beer spilled and not properly cleaning the table.. A warm wet cloth would have been fantastic. But instead it was allowed to dry and everything was sticky.

Allow me to build a compliment sandwich, if you please. The atmosphere is spectacular. The restaurant is sufficiently lit and the music maintains a volume that is neither too quiet yet it remains just loud enough to be audible and understood. The decorum is well planned and consistent with what one would expect from a Mexican restaurant. The food is... Well lets just say disappointing. Its hardly Mexican at all. And thats not to say thats necessarily a bad thing. Its perfect given its location and target market, which isnt far from blatantly stating the truth: they cater to Virginian Newport News locals. The taste is lacking traditional flavours and in some ways is just bland. The menu consists of the common dishes one would expect from any restaurant offering TexMex. The drinks are far from perfect fitting into a similar pattern with their food: mediocre. The service is quite pleasant. The waiters are well-spoken in English and Spanish as well as attentive. tl;dr: food is mediocre at best, service and ambience are decent, though.

Tonight was our first time there. My Husband ordered fajitas he thought they were supposed to come with cheese & sour cream . No biggie maybe they forgot, so my husband asks for the cheese / sour cream. They were brought out in these Huge bowls and I thought what a waste of their money. However it was OUR $$$$ cause he was charged $3.00 for Each. As we ask for to go boxes no containers for cheese / sour cream that WE paid for...... Wow .... Its not so much about the money, but they should let people there is an extra charge. Other than that our server was nice the food came out quickly..... I dont recommend having hostess or servers making wraps for fajitas yes they had in gloves, but around any FOOD product, HAIR should be worn up !!!!

I wanted a vegetarian dish and I was told that none of it was made with meat. No broth or anything so I got it. The waiter even went to the kitchen to ask to double check. My meal was good. I went there a second time and I was going to order the same thing and the waiter said what I ordered was cooked with meat. I have an issue with it. So, I ended up getting a cheese enchilada. When someone brought me my food it was full of ground beef. The waiter came back and got annoyed with the cook. The waiter was very nice. Awhile later the manager came over and she was rude. She had a bad attitude saying what am I complaining about. I told her my issue and she didnt really care. I am never going to go there again.

There are those days that you just really want mexican for lunch, and this second Juans location is definitely one of the top ones in NN. Some, not all, but some of the lunch portions $3-5 cheaper than dinner will still be massive and definitely fill you up (like the chicken fillets with chorizo). Theyre always clean inside. Now, some things seem like a rip-off like $2-4 for a small cup of queso cheese for dipping the free chips, so ask price before you request it. We had some check errors last time too, but still not enough to deter me from saying overall all experiences have been top.

I was underwhelmed. I usually prefer Plaza Azteca or Salsas, but this place is closer to where I live. I decided to stop in for carry-out. The hostess Esmeralda was unfriendly. She rushed me to order and when my food came out she handed it to me without a thank you or a goodbye. The food, the shredded chicken taco salad, was not very good. I saw a few positive reviews about this menu choice but I really dont understand the hype. The chicken was more baked than grilled and it wasnt a large salad by any means. I was unimpressed and will likely not return to Juans.

Had a wonderful experience at this Juans, in Newport news. Our waitress Danielle was not only attentative, charming, and beautiful, she anticipated our needs and was very helpful through the whole dining experience. The food came out quickly, at the appropriate Temps, and was delicious! Even though the queso was a little over priced, it was very tasty. Overall this was an exceptional experience made even better by an exceptional employee: Danielle. My only suggestion would be to advise the managment staff to GIVE THAT WOMAN A RAISE!
