We were excited to try what we thought may be a great local restaurant (based on reviews on this website) for Valentines Day. What a mistake! My husband made reservations in late January, almost 3 weeks in advance of Valentines Day. We arranged for a sitter, got dressed up, and were looking forward to a nice evening out. We arrived at Fin 5 minutes prior to our 6pm reservation. We were greeted immediately upon arrival. We were then "shown" to our seat. To show us our seat, the hostess merely turned to her right and held out a hand. There was our romantic table for two, not less than 3 feet from the hostess stand, immediately to her right. The table was definitely not usually there either, it was a folding table that it appeared they had put out for the big date night. Not wanting to spend the evening listening to other diners arrive and be seated, we politely asked if we could be seated at another table. There were at least 20 tables, all in much better locations, that were open in the restaurant. We were told they were unable to move our seat as they had a very busy evening. Hmmm. I also noted that there were 3 other younger couples seated at the other less desirable folding tables that had been brought out for the occasion. (My husband and I are in our mid thirties.) Not wishing to spend $100 dining with the hostess for Valentines Day, we chose to leave. Unfortunately, although we had planned ahead, we were not able to have a nice, relaxing, romantic evening. Of course, every other nice restaurant in town was totally booked. We did manage to enjoy ourselves, but will never try Fin again.

This is a rare scene for this area. Its nice and cozy but still super classy in here. I ordered the Pan seared scallops, bacon risotto, roasted brussel sprouts with truffle demi sauce. I had a feeling it was going to be good but it really exceeded my expectations. The scallops tasted so fresh and flavorful. We also ordered some Rockefeller oysters. We stopped in for brunch with a group of 7 people. I loved the fact that we still got out food pretty fast and the service was awesome. My friend ordered a side of bacon and he got a mountain of bacon. Most places will give you 4 slices of bacon and call that a side. Not here. I ordered the prime rib benedict. It was amazing BUT my eggs were cooked through. The prime rib was so tasty I decided not to say anything and continued to devour my meal. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. He said he was really good and hes a pretty harsh critic when it comes to food. The prices were very reasonable for the quality too. were amazing as I expected. They are a bit pricier than most restaurants in this area but I do think its for a good reason. I havent found another restaurant like this on this side of the water yet. It would be perfect for a nice anniversary dates

Im holding my stomach in pain as I type this! We ate at Fin several years ago, many times, under old management, good food! Thought we would try the new and improved Fin today after the opera. Seafood pasta is really hard to screw up ---- but they did! All it takes is some fresh seafood, pasta and a nice marinara or clear broth with plenty of garlic. They took this overpowering Alfredo cream sauce, vegetables (spinach uncut) and tried to pass it off as a marinara by adding a tomato purée! Terrible flavor and texture! One scallop (grilled perfect) shrimp over cooked and mussels under cooked ( hence the stomach pain and montezuma )!!! My wife had same dish, was told the cream sauce was more of a olive oil broth, she hates cream sauce, it was cream sauce, real thick! She ate a fourth and I ate about half. They didnt charge me for mine. The bill still came to $100! Oh yeah, I almost forgot the over priced drinks and the "grilled" Salad--- tasted like my dirty grill! Ordering soup next time!

OK first off I cant believe I locked my butter knife in public! The food here is THAT good. And this is just off the $5 bar menu. The BBQ sliders are all bbqqed in house and are super good. The bangers and mash...OH MY GOSH yes you need to try it. The sausage is soooo good. I wish there was more! I took a picture of my Tropic Thunder thats already half way through...cause it was so good! Pineapple with toast almond milk and then its tipped with toasted shaved coconut. Oh man.. So good! Next up is the charcuterie with cheese. Very good. This was chosen from the appetizer menu. My best drink was a surprise. I love semi sweet drinks with egg and angostura bitters. Robert made me up a concoction named Ready Fire Sour. I ask I took a picture of it and you should definitely ask for it. Its now my favorite drink. Im gonna come back here for sure for more Mixology Mondays and for a romantic dinner!

I had another opportunity to visit Fin as I am apt to do on every visit that I make to Newport News. This occasion was kind of special though because, having not visited for about 1 and a half years, my last visit - meal was not totally to my satisfaction; in a fashion that was not surprising to me, I was invited to visit Fin "whenever I returned to the area." Well, true to their word, having bought a copy of their invitation (from over a year before), the manager Ellen, after reviewing my note and listening to my explanation, not only took care of my wife and I in an excellent way, but the chef provided, once again, a wonderful, delectable meal for both myself and my vegetarian eating meal that they prepared specially for her. I am not sure when my work will bring me back to the area again, but, I do know that when I do, Fin will be on my menu. Wonderful job and my wife and I thank you!

My husband and I came here for lunch using a Groupon. We ordered the seafood pasta. It came with shrimp, crab, and mussels. I gave all the mussels that were in my dish to my husband because I dont eat them. They smelled funny but I wasnt sure if that was normal or not since I dont eat them. My husband said that it was not a normal smell. He tried one and said it didnt taste right. We ate the rest of the pasta but it didnt have a good flavor at all. There were 2 large parties that were in the restaurant at the time so we suspect our food was just thrown together because they were focusing on the large parties. I have never had bad seafood pasta anywhere. I probably wont go back to this restaurant. The only reason I gave it three stars is because my husband said he liked his appetizer which was the tuna tartare.

Very pretty inside. Our salads were good. It took a long time to receive our food even though it wasnt extremely busy. The steak was smothered in an overly salted sauce, making it soupy steak. The fish was over cooked. They came and took the piece of fish and said they wanted to test it. Very strange. They brought a new piece of fish on a plate by itself. Just a lone piece of fish on a plate. The pound cake was dry. Our waitress was horrible. Ehhh not the best place to eat. My family and I tried to make the most of our evening but it was difficult considering the bad food and service. I can think of other places much better. Probably will never return.
