My girlfriend and I have been coming here ever since I met her back in 2014. Unfortunately, our last couple of experiences have fallen very short of expectations. I am not sure what it is, but it seems that the bouncers, managers, and owners (Don Patrick and Terry Clarke) are becoming extremely strict about the rules that they give. It saddens me deeply to make the decision never to come back to this establishment ever again as this has always been our getaway every weekend. The staff is rude, they are not disciplined by upper management, and after one of the bouncers told me to put my hat forward instead of backwards (it is meant to be worn backwards and is uncomfortable if worn forward), we have chosen that we will no longer be doing business and giving this company another cent of our hard-earned money ever again. Another rule that we ran into was not being allowed to stand in front of the bar outside of the patio. When asked why they enforce this rule out of pure curiosity, I received nothing short of a reply that stated, "Because we said so." A simple explanation instead of being stereotyped would have sufficed. This had also been exactly the same case with my hat. I have also heard on multiple accounts of bouncers actually putting their hands on men AND women and assaulting them. In complete honesty, I have not witnessed this but it would not surprise me in the least. While I am sure there are two sides to these stories, I am not sure what gives them the right to put their hands on women in either case but I am sure the owners have Calvert County and Maryland State police in their pockets and can do anything they want when they are called to the scene of the crime. This really reminds me of a corruption/lobbyist mentality. For those people, I am deeply saddened by the situations and wish you the best if you decide to file any lawsuits. If anything, remember to go after their liquor license as they can not sell alcohol without a permit. However, it is most likely that the owners have the liquor board in their pockets as well. The only way the public would be able to really stand up to this is by not attending the establishment any longer. IN ANY CASE, IT IS BEST TO AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AS IT IS FILLED WITH CORRUPT MANAGERS/OWNERS AND RULES THAT NO ONE ON THIS PLANET WILL UNDERSTAND. I dont care if they think hats being worn backwards are signs for gangs. I dont care if they want to keep the bar as classy as possible which in all seriousness from the bathrooms and how clean the actual establishment is to begin with, GIVE. ME. A. BREAK. If you are so scared about gangs being let onto your property, maybe train your security harder for violence instead of just telling your customer to wear their clothing correctly while the pants rule is understandable. There is a restaurant down the street called the Lighthouse that has some of the best bartenders/staff I have ever been around from living in Michigan to all the way down here for me. They have buckets that are the same price as Tiki drinks but have double the beverage amount in them. The owners work hard to make sure that every customer enjoys the atmosphere and will do everything they can to make it better each and every day. They have extremely clean facilities (including restrooms) which is no where near close to Tikis. After making so much money, you would think Tiki would upgrade their facilities as well if they werent so busy getting profit and yelling at their hardworking customers. To top it all off, Tiki has not joined the 21st century and does not allow credit cards. Because of this, they avoid credit card fees, avoid the IRS, and fly under the radar when it comes to paying their fair share in taxes. Therefore, it is clear that this establishment only cares about getting by with large profits and shares no sympathy for whoever walks in and out of their doors. However, these customers have my sympathy and I sincerely hope that the public realizes eventually what a corrupt staff these owners put in to place to perform their dirty work for them.

Over priced, doesnt take card (great way to hide your income) and rude staff. I really dont understand why SOMD keeps supporting this this dump. Even living in Hawaii, and Destin Florida I never paid this much for drinks. Being from the area I always heard about this bar, when I moved back I thought Id show some co-workers a good time and take them to the other side of the bridge. What a joke. To top it all off, they wouldnt serve me because I had a hat on backwards, true story! Even got a manager of some sort to get me to leave the bar after I asked them where the label was stating which was is forward on the hat. Meanwhile, behind me some 20-somethings were drunk and belligerent ripping their shirts off falling over a table, nobody as so much spoke to them and they got another round not long after, again....shirtless, yet my backwards was so offensive I was refused service. I wasnt ever rude, I just kinda sat at the bar shocked. I knew the girl serving me from HS who was forced to have to uphold the rule. I just laughed it all off and we left. Gotta love SoMD, glad I left again.

Nobody from outside Calvert and St. Marys County can fully understand or appreciate what the Tiki Bar Opening means. The Tiki Bar has never been about the actual facility (although many improvements have been made over the years). The Tiki Bar is about two things: the people, and the Mai Tai. Its opening is a ritual that signifies the start of Spring and a season of gatherings at the iconic spot which has served so many for going on 3 decades. The opening draws thousands, and always has, which is a testament to its charm. The people there come from all walks of life and blend harmoniously in an oasis that fits as comfortably as a favorite old shoe. I look forward to a clear plastic cup filled with that signature Mai Tai and will hoist it surrounded by friends new and old in a toast to my favorite bar...the Tiki Bar!!!

The Bartenders are friendly until the last call then they give you 5 mins to drink your last drink before security starts getting in your face and ushering you out. I have seen more abuse from security and the mangers than any bar/restaurant I have ever attended. I Have not been on the receiving end of their abuse but have seen it. They go way beyond what their allowed to do. I have also witnessed The locale police (Sheriff dept ) Escort unruly patrons to their designated driver or the local bus with out hauling them to jail. A hands up to them for their professionalism . If you go drink your last drink before 12:30 so you have time to enjoy it and maybe by doing it this way a boycott of their practices will curtail it . Also they have Changed heir straws to large ones which makes you drink more.. Party on safely.

Go TIKI ! People always concentrate on TIKI BAR OPENING weekend as the craziest party with the wild times in southern MD. The rest of the year Tiki Bar is an important locally supported spot for everyone to mingle. From the local fisherman who comes in after a tough day In the sun... to the visiting group of city folks down from DC the tiki bar offers a welcoming oasis to all patrons. The Orange Crushes are the best anywhere around. For those that dont know the deal the locals menu of popular mixed drinks is sketched on the ceiling with iridescent glow paint. Order from there and ya will never be dissatisfied. Add to that a great BBQ from the "Grill sergeant" next door to make your visit complete. -- Captain Brian Mayer ( Marauder Charters )
