Starting with the chicken I grabbed my fork and took a nice sized bite of what appeared to be a piece of the breast. It had a really good flavor, a lot of spices, and was truly tender. Enough flavor that I had to move on to the next one. I went for the pulled pork, which I might say was a little bland to me and a little under cooked for pulled pork. It really wasnt that tender to be honest and seemed like it had been sitting for quite some time. The chicken by itself gets a 8 out of 10, the pork gets a 6 out of 10 on the #ScottScale. Moving onto the sweet potato I grabbed a bite with their cinnamon butter that was preload into the middle of the potato, what a blast of flavor! A bit too much sweet for me, but some may prefer it, I moved the cinnamon butter to the side and just ate the sweet potato. It gets a 7 out of 10 on the #ScottScale On to the baked beans, boy have I heard stories about you, lets see how true they are. I swapped the fork for my spoon and dug deep into the bowl to get some beans and some of the brisket that was in the mix. I noticed the steam rolling off of the spoon before I let it enter my mouth, I gave it a nice little puff to cool it down and gave it a try. It was good, baked beans for sure. Honestly nothing more than I had had before, but the brisket added a different flavor than I am used too. A+ for doing something different. I give them a 8 out of 10 on the #ScottScale. There was the cornbread, sitting by itself in the corner just begging me to give it a taste. I grabbed the single serve butter and dabbed a little on the top and then smothered it on top. I grabbed it with my hands and took a bite, who needs utensils anyways? Good flavor, and an okay texture, but my god was it dry. I honestly had to drink some water to get the cornbread down, that was a let down. Oh well. Not all cornbread is created equal. I give it a 4 out of 10. I tried the sauces with each of the meats, and decided that the pulled pork needs to be eaten with the KC Classic, and the chicken can be eaten either naked or with the Smoke Mountain sauce. Trust me. And thank me later. I gave Maribels mac-n-cheese and french fries a try. Before digging in I noticed her portion of chicken was significantly larger than the portion of pork and chicken I had combined; and for a smaller price. Im not sure why, but oh well. I want to try the sides. The MNC was super cheesy and served very hot, caution to those with sensitive tongues. The french fries were out of this world, a little salt heavy, but mind blowing to say the least. I think I have a new favorite fry in town. The fries get a 9.5 out of 10 for ultimate desired warmth, crunchiness and tenderness, and all around flavor. I deducted a half because they werent recommended to me. The MNC gets a 6 out of 10. We chatted and talked, people watched and admired the wall decorations. As the night grew old the crowd slowly drained in size. It went from the tables and booths loaded to scattered regulars on the outside and a few families on inside. There were a couple of groups who had been there longer than we had who clearly were having a great time. We wrapped everything up with an empty plate and a full stomach. Our minds were full as well after absorbing all of the spirit for those who served that was present in the atmosphere. Before I was able to locate the trash bin one of the employees asked if she could take our trays. Certainly. I reloaded my drink with some unsweet tea instead of water before leaving, and took one more glance around the facility. I like it. Ill come back to try more of the menu one day. I dont think it will turn into a regular go-to- BBQ spot, but it was good and priced reasonably considering the portions, the service, the friendliness, and the overall atmosphere. Mission BBQ holds true to their mission; and thats reminding everyone what makes our country great, and thats our heroes. #ScottMcNuttReviewsRVA @ScottMRVA

I walked here from the hotel 0.4 miles, I know thats not far, but Im not from here and had to walk alongside US 250E thats kind of awkward. But I really wanted some bbq and heard this place was good. Im glad I took the walk. The cashier was so nice when I approached she asked if I had ever been there and when I said I hadnt she explained the menu to me. I told her the things I liked and she put it together in a combo. Then told me to grab a seat and someone would call me. My food we ready shortly no sooner than me grabbing my drink and table they were already calling my name and they say it with the word Miss in front. I was given my tray and told that the mac and cheese was extra good today and I made a good choice. I was also told with a smile to enjoy and the cashier also stated that she hoped I enjoyed. Customer service here is excellent thus allowing me to give 5 stars. On to the food. I ordered moist brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage with a side of mac & cheese & green beans, this also comes with corn bread. The flavor and tenderness of the brisket was out of this world. It had the crisp top with the moist juicy inside. The sausage was very tasty with just the right amount of heat. The mac & cheese was very good, creamy and well seasoned. The green beans were average. The corn bread was nice and moist and not falling apart. I hate dry cornbread that crumbles up. Ive been to a place thats similar to this in Brooklyn NY and it was much more expensive and didnt satisfy me the way this place did. They have 6 different bbq sauces (from the different states that boast best bbq) on the table as well as several other sauces, condiments at the station across from the soda, tea & lemonade station. The staff in the dining area are very helpful offering to take your tray or bring you anything you might need. Im really glad I walked here for lunch. Money well spent!

Wife and I were returning from the river and decided to give this place a try. We walked in right at 8 before knowing it closed at 8 p.m. I personally try to never do that since I know people are trying to go home but we had neglected to look at the store hours until we left. While this is probably the reason the cashier was very rude to us I wish she had just told us they were closing. She was very aggressive and off putting. The cook who brought us our food was very nice and explained how the ribs were done to my wife. The ribs were good and my wife enjoyed them. The chopped brisket sandwich on the other hand was VERY over sauced and over cooked. I could not even finish it. I didnt taste any meat or smoke what so ever. We will not be returning to Mission BBQ not because of the food but because of the way we were treated upon arrival. The girl who cleaned our tables was nice as well but the cashier was mean, aggressive and very rude.
