I hadnt been in the area for years although I live in Hampton! I used to order BBQ from here when I worked at the Hampton Health Department. I just had to have some when I saw the restaurant. I asked to taste a green bean before I ordered because a lot of places dont know how to season their beans with good old side meat, streak-o-lean or ham hocks! The young lady taking my order came back with a condiment cup of awesomely delicious, perfectly seasoned green beans! She said, "I couldnt just give you one bean!" I saw collard greens on the menu but they werent going to be available until the day before Thanksgiving as people were ordering for their T-day meal... disappointed. The potato salad tasted almost identical to my recipe so needless to say I loved it. I ordered baked beans and cole slaw for my husband and again, delicious and perfectly seasoned. You already know how great all of the barbeque is so Ill just say that next time Im ordering a larger amount of green beans and potato salad! The portions were just right but Id like seconds next time! This is definitely a hidden gem that most locals are aware of. Shhh... Thank you Wilkes family!

Im a local and I live about 10 miles from Wilkes. I hardly miss a chance to pick up a BBQ sandwich whenever Im near by. And, in fact, Im having a small family get together tonight and will be going by to pick up 5 pounds of BBQ shortly. Im not a BBQ expert, but this is what I believe is considered Carolina barbeque - i.e. vinegar based. It is a family owned business and is strictly take-out. In fact there is hardly enough room for more than 6 or 7 people to stand in the small area where you order from. But, none of that matters. The BBQ is great.

Never have had a bad experience with either the food or staff. Ive enjoyed Wilkes BBQ for over 10 years. I have met members of the Wilkes family from many generations. I applaud this family! Each person Ive been pleasant, courteous and appreciate my business. The food is so good I always start eating it before I leave....makes my mouth water! Thank you Wilkes Family!!

BBQ Sandwich w/ coleslaw is delicious as well as the White Beans they definitely remind me of the way my grandmother makes it. Whatever you do make sure u get a slice of Sweet Potato Pie with your order...Trust me you wont be disappointed. The only negative i have is the location and appearance but the quality of food overshadows the appearance.

Really REALLY good sandwich, Carolina style with vinegar hot sauce and slaw on top. The barbecue beans are fantastic, rich and oniony. I drove past the first time because I thought it was a closed restaurant...no, thats just what it looks like. Theyre open and they know how to serve good Carolina BBQ at a good price.

My wife loves this place! Every time she comes here it is quick and friendly customer service and the order is made to perfection every time. The price in my opinion is a little high for one sandwich but hey, the taste makes up for it...overall a great place to check out if you are in the area!

Go visit this place! If you want authentic north carolina style this is the place to go. The man who runs the vintage hole in the wall is the sweetest thing in this world and gladly would have paid more for the service alone. Buy the sweet potato pie and anything else cause its all delicious!

Theres not a parking lot! Its carryout! I ordered a pulled bbq sandwich, no coleslaw, no hot sauce. I got home to eat it & realized that I also didnt have BBQ!?! So, it wasnt too tasty. My friend ordered a leg quarter, it came with BBQ sauce and it was good. I will return to try the ribs.

Whenever i go, i have to buy for family members, since they use it eat of mine. i found a trick. I love their BBQ sandwiches especially with extra hotsauce that way I can have it all to myself. They have spicy food.

Good bbq. I prefer pulled pork but wilks turned me on to chopped. And it is delicious. Also I love the old school feel of the place when u place your order. A cool piece of history and some damn good bbq.

This is off the chain when it comes to serving great BBQ! The green beans and potatoe salad is what I call the "Slap yo mama" type of flavor. It keeps you wanting to come back for more.
