I am the former Kitchen Manager at Avenue Blue and at first I wasnt going to share this with the public in hopes for an internal resolution, but its my duty to assure you all know what really goes on in here. I was hired as Kitchen Manager the first week of Nov to replace the Owners cousin who was the current KM. Upon entering the kitchen the first day i was appalled. None of the kitchen staff were wearing gloves, washing hands, training was horrible, and the staff was preparing customers food after prepping raw chicken all night. I initially addressed the issue with a memo to the Owner and Management I was told I had the companies full support and some changes began to happen when it came to Food Safety and prep under my leadership. The Picture I attached was taken Nov 17th a few days after I discovered there were a cluster of roaches behind the freezer coming out of the wall. After making a bleach solution I killed as many roaches as I could, requested management get an exterminator in and up until the day I left I saw roaches in the kitchen, never know if the exterminator came. What really sickened me is when I pulled this bowl and discovered a creature squirming in the bowl. After a few weeks it became apparent to me I wasnt hired to fix the kitchen as discussed. About a week after making my reports one of the Kitchen staffers was upset at the fact that the Owner deducted his pay for food cost. The former KM didnt properly pull thaw the cheese cake and it went bad and the employee was charged $80 for the cake (other deductions may have happened). Knowing the law i questioned this practice with the current General Manager and the Owner angrily scowled me through text for questioning her practice of recovering cost from her employees for broken dishes and bad food. Nov 19 "Good morning, ________ Informed me that you have a an issue or are questioning the legality of me enforcing the staff not being accountable for inventory. I run a business. If you have a problem with the way I run it than we can discuss if Avenue Blue is a good fit for you" is her response to my questioning this. Note that I had her full support for changes needing to be made up until this point. After about a few weeks of silence from the Owner out of the blue she decided to demote me, leaving one of the cooks in charge who was a big part of the problems I reported weeks before. I made an attempt to settle out of court with them but with no response from them I will be pursuing a law suit and following all the steps to report this business and as a food professional I am obligated to let the public know the disgusting things happening in this kitchen. If you decide to eat here do so with caution or got sick after eating here I can guess you it was because of the food. While KM I attempted to throw away Sour Crab Dip that management decided to continue to sell, chicken wings that had expired, and had I not been Kitchen Manager during a certain week rotted salmon fillets would of been cooked and served by the KM that replaced me. I had a high level of respect for the Owner and loved the vibe they had to offer but after my experience as an employee and customer I myself will never return and I dont suggest anyone else go here.

HORRIBLE! FIRST IMPRESSION MEANS A LOT BUT I GUESS NOT IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT. IVE BEEN BEGGING MY HUSBAND TO BRING ME HERE SINCE SEPTEMBER & I WISH I WOULDVE STAYED HOME. 1ST RED FLAG WAS, THE GUY AT THE DOOR DIDNT REALLY CHECK OUR IDS HE ASKED US TO JUST FLASH THEM (HE SEEMED TIPSY) 2ND RED FLAG HE DIDNT SEARCH MY HUSBAND OR CHECK MY PURSE, THAT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. WE SAT AT THE BAR AFTER WAITING A WHILE, THE BARTENDER JASMINE SEEMS LIKE SHE ONLY CATERS TO HER REGULAR CUSTOMERS. I ORDERED A BOB MARLEY (YUCK) SENT THAT BACK FOR A TEQUILA SUNRISE (YUCK AGAIN) THESE DRINKS WERE NOT MADE PROPERTY BOTH DRINK WERE SHAKEN & IF THEY WENT BY THE BOOK THEYD KNOW THAT. MY HUSBAND ORDERED A TOM COLLINS WHICH HE DIDNT RECEIVED IN THE RIGHT GLASS & THE TASTE WAS (YUCK). MY HUSBAND ENJOYED HIS SAMPLER,.OF COURSE I DIDNT ENJOY MY CHCICKEN SCAMPI THEY ARE SUPER SKIMPY ON THE CHICKEN, GREEN PEPPERS & ONIONS, SO I HAD A BOWL FULL OF NOODLES LEFT OVER (A WASTE) I SAID IMA ORDER SOMETHING DIFFERENT & SIMPLE JUST TO SEE IF ITS ME OR THEY NEED NEW MNGMT. I ORDERED A SANGRIA (SIMPLE RIGHT)? YUCK! I THEN ORDERED (5) BUFFALO WINGS TO GO & WHEN THEY ARRIVED THE WERE BURNT BLACK FULL OF SAUCE BUT BURNT. I ASKED FOR THE MNGR WHO WAS LATER FOUND AT A TABLE FULL.OF WOMEN GETTING HIS DRINK ON. WHEN HE FINALLY CAME OVER, I PROCEEDED TO LET HIM KNOW ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE ON TOP OF HIM SWITCHING MY WINGS OUT, HE DIDNT CARE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE TRIED TO TELL ME I MUSTVE ORDERED MY WINGS EXTRA CRISPY & THATS THAT, NO SIR ALL.I ASKED FOR WAS (5) BUFFALO WINGS WITH BLUE CHEESE. HE WASNT PLEASED SO HE TOOK THEM TO THE BACK & NEVER CAME BACK TO APOLOGIZE FOR THE HORRIBLE SERVICE THAT MY HUSBAND AND I RECEIVED, INSTEAD HE GOT ON THE DANCE FLOOR WITH SOME LADY & BOOGIED ON DOWN. FINALLY HE BRINGS ME MY WINGS ONLY TO CASH OUT GET HOME & REALIZED THEYRE REGULAR FRIED WINGS. :( HOW DOES THE WEBSITE SAY THAT THERE IS A STRICT INFORCED DRESS CODE WHEN THE ONLY ONES THAT DRESSED THE PART WAS OLDER ME & WOMEN. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE 30YRS OLD & WE WERE THE YOUNGEST ONES DRESSED UP TO MATCH THE OLDER CROWDS FLY. THERE WERE PPL DRESSED IN HOODIES, FITTED CAPS,BASKETBALL SNEAKERS (WHICH THE WEBSITE SAYS YOU CANT WEAR THEM). THE ONLY THING WE ENJOYED AT THIS PLACE WITH IT BEING OUR FIRST TIME WAS THE MUUUUUUSIC! I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT BACK INTO "AVENUE BLUE" UNLESS THEY GET NEW MNGMNT DRINKS- TRASH FOOD- MEDIOCRE ATMOSPHERE- BLAAH STAFF- TWO THUMBS DOWN MANAGER- I WISH I COULD CALL CORPORATE ON HOW HE "HANDLED" THE SITUATION

First off I dont really write reviews but when do its always on a good note......Went there to celebrate my birthday and ordered Green apple crown with cranberry. The drink was about $8 but my cup was half full so Im thinking like the business owner that I am. Maybe they do this for sales you know so you can pay for an extra shot. I was fine with it until she charged me almost $20 for the whole thing! For that price I could have went and bought a bottle! I feel like prices need to be reviewed to charge someone the price of a drink for a shot (if that she really shorted me on my drink) is ridiculous! The music was great and its a nice set but the situation really killed the mood and it was on my birthday so I definitely left there a little salty.

My company, Virginia Full Figured Fashion Week, has visited Avenue Blue on several occasions for business meetings, networking mixers, etc. I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite spots in Virginia. The atmosphere is swanky and hip. There is a strict dress code on most days of the week - which is very appreciated. The staff, management, and owners go out of their way to make sure that our experience is always enjoyable. The food (mainly tapas style) is amazing and their calamari is out of this world! All of the drinks that Ive tried there have been on point and they have awesome happy hour specials. I highly recommend Avenue Blue to those looking for a grown up and professional night spot for business and/or just to unwind.
