Better than a chain but not by much. I went in hopeful when I saw a la marzocco machine on the counter and was greeted whith quick service. My hope quickly turned to doubt when I saw the drink sizing being the same generic Starbucks sizing. I ordered a small cap and immediately saw the barista pour too much milk into the frothing pitcher then steamed the milk before pulling the shot leaving it there to cool and deflate. The shot was over extracted but not too bad overall. When the milk was finally poured in they used a spatula to separate the milk and foam then poured the excess milk in the sink and plopped the froth on top of my drink. When I saw latte art in the photos for this place I expected more experienced baristas not ones the used newbie methods that you learn because you cant make a proper drink. Wrapping up my long review I will say the drink I got was mediocre but drinkable, the milk was not oversteamed but overairated, the shot was over extracted but not by much, the biggest down side is the experience of the staff. That poor la marzocco is not getting the love it deserves and the breaks my heart to see a $20k machine be used to make a mediocre drink.

My wife and I usually come here every week after Sunday evening mass to get some coffee. The coffee was very good initially when we first started coming here, but have noticed a degradation in quality, and our last few visits here where anything but pleasant. This last Sunday evening we ordered two large drinks to bring home with us. We politely asked for stickers to keep the contents from spilling since we drive and drink this at home. A lady (one of the owners) who was preparing the drinks refused to pick up a sticker that was lying right next to her and said to ask someone else to do this? I stated my displeasure as cordially as possible to her , and as she was preparing the second drink to my amazement she responded exactly as follows " You do want me to make you a good Expresso, dont you?". My wife and I are in our middle 40s, 50s with an established business in the area, and know this is no way how to treat a customer of any age, race, or gender. Our last few experiences here were unfriendly but this was off the chain and the last straw? This is not the only good coffee place in the Fredericksburg area and were done here!

They talk about other customers with other customers. We witnessed this first hand. After contacting the owners, they didnt bother to reply back to us, and we then found out that it was one of the owners who was trashing us, all over one of us wanting to take a picture of a full cup of coffee for a scavenger hunt. The most unprofessional customer service in my 47 years on this planet. It is obvious that the owners have zero experience in how to deal with customers in general and they can not own up to their mistakes. A simple and sincere apology would have stopped me from writing this review, because if someone learns from their mistakes then thats all that matters.

Hyperion Espresso has been a Fredericksburg icon for years. An important part of its charm was vested in a staff that joked and interacted with the patrons at the counter. Alas, those days are gone with the departure of Julie and Jerry. Most of the present staff engage with each other and seem to take an "if we must" attitude toward customer service. Recently, upon ordering I told the staff that I had overheard two people say it was "chilly in here" a young staff matron said..."I only hear one". Ouch! Zing! boy was that a clever come backer! Sorry, Dan, I love your coffee but there are other similar stories out there. Average rating is for service only.

Visited the coffee shop during the spring. Atmosphere was welcoming, quaint, busy. A nice independent establishment, which i prefer to support. My double espresso was a different story. It looked more like a single shot. Bitter, barely warm, no crema, and ranks as one of the worst espressos i have ever had. Needless to say highly disappointing. Didnt even bother going back through the waiting line. If a simple espresso cant be made the first go round then there isnt any reason the second will be any better. Perhaps their strong suit is standard coffee or the other concoctions that pass as coffee.

This used to be my favorite coffee shop, and might still be, if I could ever find a parking spot. But traffic congestion in the downtown area got to be horrendous with all the new construction and roadwork going on, and parking spots close enough to walk from (Im handicapped) have completely disappeared. I drive past the place often, and long for one of their excellent brews with one of their fine baked goods, maybe a nice chat with their friendly and engaging staff, but theres never any place to park!

ive been going to Hyperion espresso even since i was a little kid. All the time I go there i would always get a banana but now i always get a white chocolate frozen mocha with frosted mint and in my opinion it would taste Delicious my only problem is the lack of parking spaces in downtown but other than that i would truly recommend going to this amazing coffee shop. Hyperion has the best crew and their service is excellent in my opinion i will definitely go here again in the future :)

I ordered a green tea. The tea they gave me was brown.. When I questioned their order they took an arrogant attitude as though I dont know tea. And then when I left they began speaking rudely about me. My daughter in law and son where in line behind me and called them on it. I went back in an demanded a refund and their manager. Amanda behind the counter became more rude and defensive. No apology. I got their business card. I doubt I will get to speak with their manager.

As a Hypnotherapist, I like to advertise my services in the town where I live, therefore and I like to do sometimes short demonstrations in public places such as this coffee shop. This is a great place to relax, and to do your computer work as well. It is also good for reading your favorite book while enjoying the best cup of coffee in such a beautiful Fredericksburg downtown area. In addition, I like the friendliness of the servers and the food too.

Its an indigenous alternative to Starbucks that inspite of its ideal location, for some reason, it sabotages its potential for greatness (through better customer service) by unreasonably imposing an unecessary delay on its customers, by way of a long line due to only one employee taking orders (while there are usually 4 at the bar) and by using only one of its two bars which are strategically positioned at opposite entrances. Why?

I have never witness such awful customer service in my life. I have grown up in Fredericksburg and gone to Hyperion since I can remember. Im sad to say that I will never be going back. There is no regard for the customer whatsoever and I was told by a not so friendly worker to tell all my friends and write on yelp about my experience, so I am. Be warned, your hard earned money is not appreciated here!
