Ive noticed with these Chinese places dont question your receipt. They get upset. I checked my receipt to make sure everything was correct and the owner came over asking me "what are you complaining about?" I said nothing just checking. Then the owner went on and on (very annoyingly) " many people in Charlottesville consider East garden the best Chinese restaurant" they claimed Mike Signer, the mayor of hoo- ville was their long-time customer.then they went on a little about how they have many people that are "high in society " that come to their restaurant. Im not so sure about that.. the owner here was rude and annoying. Ive noticed at these kinds of places they really like to brag and they hate when you question your receipt or act like they are lying. Ive encountered this kind of thing before at other Chinese places. As far as east garden is concerned Im not returning. The buffet was stone cold. I barely ate anything and they still charged full price. The only thing I really ate was a little bit of sesame chicken that had just came out. 2 stars is kind of pushing it..

Arrive at 730 on a Friday night. Go up for our 1st plate and everything is either cold to lukewarm or dried out beyond belief. I get a few small things and go back to the table. 3 bites later Ive decided nope. Since I keep seeing people coming out of the kitchen and stirring the food I figure maybe theyre about to bring some new stuff out. After 30 minutes I ask the host at the counter if any new food is coming out. He goes back to the kitchen and after 15 minutes they bring a few new things out. The sushi was warmish and off color, the fried dumplings were so dry you couldnt even break them. After having to wait almost an hr to get a fresh plate at a buffet during prime dinner time on a Friday I decided Ill never go back. $50 and we went to McDonalds after. Save your money and go to Hibachi.

So, I have been going to this restaurant since it opened 2005. I went in there last night and the food was freezing. I told the manager, and he proceeded to argue with me but he wouldnt even touch it, he also asked what I wanted him to do about it, and I told him "get hot food on the table", he acted like I wanted something free or a discount. He said "I dont know how long you had your plate", umm, ask your server whom just brought the drinks to the table. Needless to say I became very offended, especially since I know that all the hot food on the table is required to be at 140+ degrees at all times. The food was probably cold due to the cold temperatures, and were using space heaters in the restaurant.

Among the standard Americanized Chinese restaurants, this is the best one in town, and none of the Chinese-Chinese restaurants have buffets. Buffets not being my thing, this one is decent with excellent spicy flounder soup. What makes this five stars is that you can order off menu (in Chinese anyway, never tried in English). So if you get a craving for qihongshi chao jidan and some tudousi- theyll cook it up; and if they dont have the ingredients- theyll walk over to Food Lion and get them. Only thing missing is cold beer. (Non Americanized would be Peter Changs, Taste of China, Gingko Leaf).

I love this place. I dont know how many times weve gone out looking for a good buffet place. Most of the other places in Charlottesville dont serve fresh enough food. I think thats because theres no one in Charlottesville, and so its hard to maintain a good customer base when there arent any. This place is a little smaller than most of your other places, but I think its a good size for the population of Charlottesville. The food is always pretty fresh, as is the sushi. The desserts are bomb. And the overall selection is great. Everyone can find something that they like here.

One of the best Chinese buffets Ive ever been to for one simple reason: they have all you can eat salmon roe sushi (aka caviar). Very expensive stuff and Im surprised such an inexpensive buffet has it. Sushi King has this sushi as well but it costs a lot more. Overall the buffet is very clean, neat, the food is fresh and the sushi was great. Definitely a cut above your average Chinese buffet. Not a Charlottesville native, but whenever I pass by C-ville from Richmond Ill be sure to stop by!

Worst General Tso Chicken I have ever had, I honestly asked myself for a second "is this even chicken?" The sauce was horrible, nothing like normal General Tsos Chicken and the chicken was extremely tough and a dark yellow color. Maybe some of their other food is good but DO NOT GET THE General Tsos chicken. They obviously created a bunch of fake accounts to get their rating at 3.9, there is no way the positive reviews are legit.

By far the WORST Chinese place I have eaten at. Food was cold... Seafood- dont try it unless u want something that has been sitting out all day! There were plenty of choices but nothing tasted good. Be sure to only get what you can eat on ur plate cause there sign clearly says they will charge for to much food wasted.. waitress was extremely rude and not very pleasant at all. Giving this place 1star is pushing it.

It was not the best Chinese buffet, but it wasnt the worst. The environment was clean. The waitress kept our drinks filled, but was very standoffish with no interaction. It was kind of strange. Some of the food seemed to have been out for a long time. My kids said it was weird for the American food to taste better than the Chinese food at a Chinese food restaurant. To be completely honest, we will not go back.

The best Asian cuisine in the area, but it isnt consistent with the quality. We been there and the mussels or claims werent cleaned well, salmon sometimes way over cooked and what not. Most of the time its awesome, flounder is mostly perfect, sushi is fresh and so taste, even if its small there is something there someone loves.

This place is good. Fresh nice food and a fresh mad Sushi bar. Did I say they have Ice cream too? There 8s nowhere else in Charlottesville to compare with. They are cheap and friendly. My children are always exited to go there. If you drink, dont ask for beer, they dont have ABC license.

The food had gone bad. Dry and cold. I have been to not so decent restaurants before but they would even look good compared to this one. I dont know if the food is like this all day in the restaurant but that shouldnt be an excuse to at least keep the food worm.

Las personas son muy amables y la comida también tiene una buena calidad, no tienen tanta variedad como otros

My husband and my favorite buffet in Charlottesville. For Chinese food is not so heavy on greaseand oil. The sushi is the best and fresh most of the day. For my lighter food preference I like the steamed vegetables and soups and salads

I have better food there than I did this time. Sunday at 8pm may not be the best time to go. Food was no where as fresh as it usually is. If your going to to be open till 10pm them your food should be as fresh as at opening. Thanks
