Absolutely awful experience. The place was absolutely filthy. They were very proud of being part of restaurant week but had only half of the food that was available on the menu. When placing orders for she crab soup we were told and i quote "there is only one cup left, you can order something else and fight over this one". Bathrooms were unkept and out of toiletries. The only reason that this is known is that one of our party members became ill from the food. The food was under cooked. I have never seen slimy fried oysters in my life. Creme brulee that had a consistently of cottage cheese. The bugs landing on the table and the prepared food was horrid. When swating a fruit fly from a booth devider dust erupted in a cloud covering the entire table. Service... well there was none. My party was there for almost 2 hours and saw a waitress a total of 5 times. We were told that they were extremely busy, as we were 1 of 3 tables. When we asked to speak to the manager about the food we were thrown out. The reason was that we created a disturbance. This is very embarrassing to me as i am a corperate service manager myself, and have never been told to leave an establishment in my life. After being thrown out the manager came out of the front door threatening to call the police if the bill was not paid in full. As I am not one to create a disturbance I paid the bill and tried yet again to talk with the manager but this fell on deaf ears. If you think about eating in this area I would give this establishment I wide berth and save your money. You can find better food and service close by at a fast food resteraunt or even a gas station.

Stay far away from the fish tacos! The fish tacos on the menu are described as "Three tacos filled with Cajun seasoned red fish, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced avocado, and jalapeno crema." ( and if you have visited their website, the tacos look delicious.) What you actually get however is tasteless, unseasoned fried fish covered in iceberg lettuce so that you cant see the terrible tasting fish before you bite into it. And the crema on tip is just as tasteless. I did notify the waitress that the tacos I received were not the tacos that I ordered but apparently those are the only fish tacos they serve. She said she notified the manager that never showed up to take a look at the difference in the tacos I received and the tacos listed on the menu. I do give this restaurant 1 start because the crab soup and rolls were good. Im guessing the place is under new ownership or management because it used to be a 5 star restaurant for us. We probably wont be returning unless were just there to get soup and rolls.

Our employees enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner here last year...but this year was a complete disappointment. We had reserved 2 weeks in advance (party of 13) and asked for a seasoned server. We were given one server who was way too green to handle our group along with other tables. Server was not attentive (waters were dry, gaps between her visits were 20 min sometimes, dirty plates were left until we bused them ourselves). The food was not as good as we remembered from previous visit (that could be related to our frustration with the service). When we expressed displeasure to management, they made a half-hearted effort to check in on us. Gratuity was automatically added and no discounts were offered or given. Unfortunately, it cast a pretty nasty shadow on our Christmas party.

We went to Shadwells to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were treated like royalty - the young man who showed us to our table wished us a happy anniversary as did the hostess and our waitress, we were served fuller than usual glasses of champagne, and our dinners (salmon and black and blue sirloin) were outstanding and cooked to perfection. Our desserts were on the house. We go to Shadwells often, and weve never been disappointed in the atmosphere, the service or the food. The staff there made our special occasion even more special. We recommend Shadwells to everyone.

We visited Shadwells for dinner two weeks ago as we were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. It was a delightful experience. The food and service were outstanding. We ordered Lobster Risotto cakes as an appetizer and Scallops Rockefeller and Shadwells mixed grill as entrees. The biscuits that were served with the meal were like nothing weve ever had - light, airy and delicious. The she-crab soup was unique and wonderful. And to make it perfect, we were given a 10% discount as patrons of the Hilton. Cant wait to visit again; just wish it were closer to Arlington.

Had the crab cake, slaw, sweet potato fries, and key lime pie. It was all outstanding! The crab cake had no filler. I rarely eat slaw, but I tried their vegetable slaw and finished every bit. The sweet potato fries had a light cinnamon and maple flavor - not too sweet - that I had never tasted before, and they were amazing. They make the key lime pie at the restaurant, and the freshness really made a difference. Tart, sweet ... I am salivating just thinking about it again! Edit - forgot to mention that the service was great!

It was restaurant week (cheap meals around town) so some of the issues may have been caused by extra busy evening. The food was good but elements like sides listed in the menu with the meal never came. The cocktails were the worst I have ever had anywhere. Second try the cocktails were better. The mashed potatoes tasted like play dough. The meats were not cooked right for anyone at our table. They get the one star because they had super glue when we needed it. Also there servers are great.

Our experience was horrible! We came in on a snowy night to meet friends that were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn with us due to the weather. Our waiter was friendly but a little slow. One of our friends ordered his beer before we arrived but didnt get it after we reminded our waiter about his drink, which was after we received ours. The food was severely overpriced for the quality and was served warm, not hot. It has been decided that Shadwells will not be visited by this group again.

Wow, what an experience! I came here as part of Charlottesvilles restaurant week and had a three course meal. The Clam chowder was divine. For my entree I had a goat cheese stuffed pork chop that was deliciously tender and finished off with berry cobbler. The wait staff here was very friendly and attentive, the ambiance was nice and youre given the option to sit in the fine dining area or in the bar area where there are TVs to watch sports.

Second time here in the past couple of weeks. Nice atmosphere. Good, friendly service. Appetizer and salads were good. Entrees were mixed. I had recommended the trout based on first visit, but it was not prepared nearly as well this time. Crispy brown and flavorful with lots of almonds the first time, versus soggy with few almonds or flavor. Not a bad place, but need to see more consistency in quality to give a higher rating.

Staff had no training on service. Fish was undercooked/raw. Many items were "out." Prime Rib had lots of fat & gristle and was thickly coated on both sides with MSG which is a serious health problem for those with high blood pressure. It was a total waste of $158.00!! The two of us had a mostly sleepless night, sweating and tossing and turning from the MSG overload and the very unpleasant rip off!! Diarrhea lasted for two days!
