Feeling a little sad about writing this review. Sichuan Village was our FAVORITE restaurant to go to, we went usually at least twice a month. Never had the buffet, but we have ordered the same menu items for at least 3 years. In the last month and a half Ive ordered the cumin chicken to be VERY let down. It used to have tons of diced up onions and jalapenos and was covered in a spicy cumin blend. The dish was so hot your nose was running. Recently the dish doesnt even appear to have cumin on it, and the peppers are no longer jalapenos. We went last night and got our other favorite, chengdu chicken. The chengdu chicken was typically in a oil/broth, but it was fairly thick still. Last night the broth was almost like a soup that had some chicken in it, and it had a completely different flavor than it has for years. We usually start with cold noodles, which were okay this time, but again, lacked the signature fiery spice. They were lightly sauced and a little bland, where as usually they were almost swimming in the chili oil. Our waitress let us know there was a new chef, which understandably meant there would be some changes. But its almost as if the old recipes that we loved so much had been thrown away and he was just winging it. We all but said our goodbyes to our back corner booth with the taped up seat, and maybe we will give it a try in a few months, but we are very let down. No other sichuan restaurant in the DC area had compared for us in the past. Our recent experiences wouldve caused me to leave 2 stars, but because of our great experiences in the past few years Im leaving three. Bring back your old cook or have the new cook fix his recipes and it would easily be a 5 star. We also noticed there may have been a management change. The sweet elderly lady used to great us at the register and ask how my family was doing and remembered us every time, and we havent seen her in months.

For anyone who wants authentic, decent Chinese food, then DO NOT eat the buffet. Ask for the menu and order off the menu! The menu is much, much more authentic than the buffet, which is basically catered to anyone wanting Americanized Chinese food of chow mein, General Tsos chicken, and the like. If you can handle spiciness, I recommend trying the spicy fish fillet and mapo tofu. It is one of my favorite Sichuan dishes and this place does a good job making it. Its even comparable to the Sichuan restaurants in Rockville (such as Sichuan Jin River, Joes Noodle House, etc), which are some of the areas best for authentic Chinese, especially Sichuan, food. I also think their dan dan noodles are pretty good too. Im Chinese and love Sichuan food more than any other regions, so Ive eaten more Sichuan regional food than anything else. Ive never had the buffet here, so I cant speak to it (although judging from the comments, Im guessing its less than stellar). But Ive had food off of the menu and it is really good. The ratings for this restaurant do not reflect the true potential of the restaurant/chef, since these ratings are judging the buffet more so than the real Chinese food that is being served here. These 4 stars Im giving are for the authentic Chinese food here. Hopefully, more people will eat the food thats on the menu than the buffet and see/taste the difference.

The buffet was terrible, the food tasted old and Im surprised none of us are sick! I guess its too early to tell since we just ate there. A lot of reviews about how good the menu food is... Screw that... The place was filthy, the chair backs were sticky... If they cant do the buffet right, then they shouldnt even offer it. Im contemplating reporting them to the local health department... I have a good nose and taste for bad or half rotten food, and believe me it was bad. I took a walk around the back and peeked into their kitchen, nasty! I cant believe places like this can even get a license to sell food. No one asked how anything was, probably because they know better... I mentioned to the cashier that it was terrible and he just ignored us like he doesnt really hear us.... Too bad you have to pay these jerks or else get arrested for theft... We paid and left, I have the Fairfax health dept number in my phone and they will be getting a call on Tuesday after labor day.

This is truly the worst Chinese buffet Ive ever been to. They make you pay before you sit, which should have been a tip-off to the quality of food we were about the eat. There were a good number of choices, but the food looked and tasted like it had been out for a long time. Anything with sauce had a coagulated film you had to break through to get to the food. I saw them refill 1 dish during our entire dinner. Chinese food is one of my favorites, so if I get heartburn or indigestion, it usually feels like a small price to pay. Most of the dishes tasted TERRIBLE. There was only one dish (watery tofu with mushrooms) that I could eat in its entirety. Of course I was up all night with indigestion, and regretting ever having eaten there. My recommendation is that if youre going to try Sichuan Village, order off the menu. It has to be better than the buffet or they would be out of business.

This place is either under new management or the owner has actually read these bad buffet reviews. Food were hot and fresh. They added a seafood section with clams, mussels, crawfish and steamed fish. They also filled the trays very quickly when the foods were almost out. I spoke to the guy that was on the register and it looks like they are adding more dishes to the buffet in the next few weeks. If I remember correctly, he mentioned Salmon, seaweed, scallops etc..We had a great time eating here. The waiter was super nice and friendly. It has improved A LOT, cheaper and very similar to Hibachi. I will go back within a week or two to check out the new foods and highly recommend to everyone. People who had bad experience should give them a second try.

Had to add a good review as all the buffet eaters are giving this wonderful place a bad name. This is the most authentic szechuan cooking around and Ive never been disappointed. Favorites include szechuan street dumplings, hans steam buns, ants on a tree, and ma po tofu. Have also enjoyed the chengdu dishes. While the decor certainly leaves a lot to be desired the fact that it is packed with chinese customers should speak for itself. Keep in mind that all of these reviews are for the buffet. In todays day and age cant for the life of me understand why people would want a glutinous buffet in the first place. Stick to what real chinese food the asian customers are eating and you wont be disappointed.

Every time when I visit this area I go there for real Sichuan food. But this time I was so disappointed. Before the food was good. The service was so so although its not very clean. Buffet was not good. However this time I ordered two dishes and got first one after more than one hour waiting and the veggie was not fresh. The second came in nearly two hours. Almost every customer there was complaining about the slow service. I understood they got big order that moment. But based on my experience there its management mess. Theyre trying to make every penny from every customer. To eat there its like hit or miss. Im not taking chance anymore.
