We arrived for dinner around 6:30 PM. I should have know this was a bad idea when we were the only people in the place. We both ordered egg drop soup. It came really hot and I think Im glad that it was. There was a strange faint fermented alcohol taste. I dont know if they actually put a little sake in the mix or if perhaps the soup actually had at some point fermented. It wasnt bad...just strange. I ordered something they called Dragon Phoenix. My wife ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken. Mine was shrimp and chicken basically. The chicken came battered and fried. Not really what I wanted but I should have asked. I cant blame them for that. The shrimp was ok. The mixed veggies were basically 2 table spoons of frozen vegetables. There were also about 4 pieces of cold broccoli. Well a couple pieces were sort of warm but one was chilled-cold. Im pretty sure they were frozen as well. My wifes came with the typical red sweet sauce. The problem was it wasnt typical. It was basically pink semi-sweet water! Her chicken may have come from a bag and heated up. It definitely wasnt fresh prepared (is that really too much to ask). After the horrible food we waited more than 10 minutes for the check. I finally went looking for someone (the only person working the front). I explained to her that my wife didnt like hers and I explained by. I told her I did eat 1/2 mine and that Id be happy to pay for mine. After having to re-explain to the cook (who came out to discuss the matter) she finally took off $4 off the total. They have a lunch buffet and Ive actually heard its ok and a decent value. I wont ever go back again. I should have followed by instincts on this one.

China Star is a family run restaurant and they make great food, but you need to know a few things about the place before going there. Given the demographics of the surrounding community, China Star is basically a delivery / carry-out restaurant if you are looking for dinner. It does a brisk lunch business during weekdays, but they basically shut down the seating areas at night time because the area is a bedroom community for working in Richmond and Fredericksburg, so there really is no regular evening clientele. That said, they do open a buffet on Friday, right around 5:30PM, and it is well attended. Unlike other buffet restaurants, they put smaller quantities on the buffet table and replenish the items as needed - which, in my opinion, keeps the buffet line a ton fresher. If you live within 5 miles or so, they will deliver for no charge if you order is over a certain amount (cant remember... think $25) and they also have a strong carry-out business. Our favorites are General Tsao Chicken, Triple Delight, Moo Shoo Pork, Crispy Chicken, Combination Fried Rice, and, of course, their outstanding tea. If you drive there at 5PM on Tuesday expecting to sit in the restaurant and eat, you will probably be disappointed. Try delivery, carry-out, or the Friday buffet instead!

this is the worst food ever, it was cold, and clearly not made today. the restroom was a complete hell hole. we left out food on the table, but I am confident they will just dump it back in the warmers...avoid this place avoid all cost, even the water had a bad taste.

Used to order from here all the time but after getting chicken that was hard and unedible three times in a row we stopped eating here. I suspect that the chicken had been cooked the previous day and possibly sit under a heat lamp all day.
