Has a lot of potential but was generally a disappointment. Motel room smells like a mixture of dog urine & cleaning supplies. Staff was very nice & gave us a different room but it smelled the same. Carpet is grossly stained & bathroom is very out dated. The shower is super tight, & when a neighboring room flushes their toilet the water in your shower gets scorchering hot for a few seconds. (This was painfully annoying.) The bath houses look pretty nice but there was barely any water pressure & the one closest to motel doesnt have air conditioning so it was extremely hot & humid in there. (This was an issue for our elderly grandmother.) Their website claims to have an adult only pool, this was not true. Also said free breakfast for guest this was also not true. The JackSpot Restaurant is tiny with only four or five small bar tables inside. Due to it being so crowed we sat in the outdoor seating area outside where we waited one whole hour after ordering our food to get it. The waitress had a huge attitude, why? I dont know because we were the ones baking outside in the heat for an hour waiting for food that was just mediocre & pricey. Our parents tried going again on a different day when they werent busy & still waited 45min for some nachos. There are basicly no activities, they schedule like one every weekend so there is nothing to do other than go to the pool or beach during the week. They do have some live entertainment but every time we drove by there was no audience. The beach is nice but very small. This place is super dog friendly which we loved. But they should really consider having something other than carpet in the motel rooms if they are allowing pets. Or maybe a few dog free rooms for guest without pets. RV sites were nice but be aware there is no shade anywhere. Bring canopies or whatever you can to get out of the sun. This place could be really great with just a few minor adjustments. Add more activities, Finish updating motel rooms, get rid of the disgusting smell, & Do what your website actually says. On another note the staff was very friendly & any time something was wrong or we had a request they did their best to accommodate. This place has huge potential if they can fix the details. If not, than I wont be returning.

Dont stay here. We booked a night art the hotel for our first wedding anniversary. We arrived at the resort around 12. We went to the front desk to check in at the hotel. The woman at the front desk was rude and acted like we were a inconvenience. "You cant check in until 3. I can tell you now that your room is NOT ready" We said okay and she replied "You can call at 2 and check on the status of your room." So, we thanked her and checked out the town of Cape Charles which wound up being about 20 minutes away. We came back to the resort at 2 and went in to check on our room. It still wasnt ready, so we waited in the parking lot. We already knew what room number we had, so we watched the housekeeper go in our room and clean it. Once she left the room, we went back to the front desk to get our keys. "Your room is NOT ready" both of the ladies at the front desk said. "Your room is the LAST room to get done!" We thought that was odd since they knew for two hours that we were there and that we watched the housekeeper finish our room, which we told the lady at the front desk. "I can double check I guess" she said. Of course our room was in fact ready and we got the keys. Our room was really nice. Everything was really clean and the bed was very comfortable. We went to check out the next morning and there was a different woman at the front desk. She was gossiping with housekeeping when we walked in and continued to ignore us and carry on a conversation with housekeeping complaining about another guest in front of us. We stood there for 10 minutes before she would check us out. The pool at the hotel was closed the whole time, but nobody told us. There is hardly any information about the resort or the town of cape Charles. We had to google most of the things we did there. Also, the beach at the resort is very small. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because we had a nice room. I recommend just staying in the town of Cape Charles. Unless you like rude staff.

Really nice campground and overall great experience, but be warned.....GET YOUR QUOTE IN WRITING!!! We went to check in and they tried to charge me $200 more than what I was quoted for a camping spot for 8 nights. The receipt they send you doesnt show your nightly rate or the total due upon arrival, it just shows you have a reservation and what you paid as a security deposit. After going back and forth with the manager, we split the difference....still too much for the cheapest tent spot available! The website says they have laundry facilities onsite, but upon arrival, they were not ready. We were expecting to do laundry while we were there, so we didnt take too many towels. The closest laundry mat is in Cape Charles and looks like it came out of the 70s.....with only a few working washing machines. A simple note on the website or a courtesy email would have been nice and I would have taken more towels. HOWEVER.....I have to give them 5 stars on the bath houses. Each one was clean and well air conditioned!! The pool was nice, the staff was very friendly, and there were plenty of activities for the kids. Sunsets on the beach were amazing (they even rake the seaweed up off the beach every morning). There was live music by the bay on the week-ends. I cant say enough about the staff. We were there to fish and they made us a make shift fish cleaning station which was great. My family really enjoyed our vacation and we all look forward to going back!

We stayed in room 133 it was a little dark and dated but figured we would make the best of it. The grille and beach were great the hotel not so great. The first night we did not have any issues. The second night there were noises coming from the old chiller vent and ducts that sounded like rodents. This noise went on all night. The next morning I let the lady at the front desk know. She stated that she would send maintenance to check it out. They came quickly but not sure if they found anything. they needed to check the room above us. No offer to move rooms or sorry or anything. We spent the day at the beach, which like I said was great. When we got back to the room the noises were coming from the ceiling chiller again. Needless to say my wife was not going to stay another night with some type of varmint in the ceiling making noises all night. So, we called the front desk and let them know that the noises were still coming from the ceiling so we were checking out. person at the front desk just stated that they would have to send someone to check it out in the morning again. Again no Im sorry, we will comp a night or anything. I understand that they are in the middle of the refuge, but critters keeping you up all night making noises is unacceptable. You can tell that the new owners are trying, however they still are coming up short. I would not recommend for anyone to stay here and would not be revisiting the Sunset Beach Inn.
