We showed up at 6 with a 1 year old and 6 year old. We were told itd be a 35 minute wait, we were seated 1 hour 10 mins later. Since time was important with the little one we ordered food minutes after our drinks. We got the kids meals an hour later with my wifes showing up 30 mins after that! Mine had an error so I had to wait another 30 minutes for them to meticulously prepare my fancy cheesesteak and throw it in a box only to bring it home and eat it alone. We were told when our kids food came that ours was right after. In the end it is better to turn someone away than to piss them off. Dont under exaggerate wait times to keep people there and to keep people smiling. 3 hours and I got a sandwich in a box, kids with no ice cream, and a grudge. Lucky for The Shanty there arent too many places to eat in town, which somehow makes everything taste better!

This was an unplanned stop driving home and decided to stop at The Shanty. Couldnt have been more surprised or happier with stopping here for dinner. The restaurant setting in the harbor gives fantastic sunset views. The food is wonderful. Traditional eastern shore seafood with a modern touch of fusion from asia. I had their New England clam chowder that was really hearty and yummy. We also had an appetizer of fried calimari with a sweet Asian sauce that was very good. We ate it all. My dinner was a half pound of steamed shrimp and a side basket of hush puppies. The shrimp were good, a few pieces a little hard to peel, but very tasty in the home made cocktail sauce. The hush puppies were sweet and crunchy on the outside, warm and velvety soft on the inside. Just perfect. The service was first class and very attentive. We will be back.

The location is absolutely fabulous!! I feel The owner/management takes that for granted. We waited forever for service. Paid 16 dollars for a pitcher if nasty Bud Light. I ordered the rockfish special which was supposedly local rockfish and was 25 dollars, the rockfish came out burnt So burnt i had no choice but to ask for a manager. I couldnt eat a 25 dollar daily special. The manager/owner was so rude and took my plate while i was eating and gritted her teeth and said "i will just take it off ur bill". I was never offered anything else to eat. So basically i left hungry!! The google info stated they have steamer buckets snd crabs which drew my mom and i there. The servers promptly informed us that is inaccurate. Start to finish...epic fail. The view..amazing .. but i will NEVER return

Read about in Chesapeake Bay magazine and made a special detour to try earlier this year, only it was the wrong time of year. When we called we were impressed by owner enough to want to try again. So on our way back home from North Carolina today, decided to take the Bay Bridge route and stop in Cape Charles. Glad we did, just had the most delightful late lunch. When we got there it was 2:00 and received the best reception and service. The clam chowder, clam strip basket flounder fish and chips were fresh and delicious. As we were leaving the place was starting to get busy, not bad for a Thursday afternoon. We will definitely take the coastal route and make the Shanty a destination for lunch or diner.

I was really surprised and excited to see a locally caught, Cobia special on the menu. This place has been hit or BIG miss, but I took a chance...the Cobia steak was pretty small considering the price but the biggest complaint...CUT OUT THE BLOODLINE! I really wanted to go back in the kitchen and ask the chef if he knew how to cook fish and why he didnt take the time to trim the red meat out. The biggest complaint people have on fish is it tastes too "fishy"! Its because of that bloody red meat in the center of a filet that should be cut out. So, thanks for having a locally caught, delicious fish option on the menu...but PLEASE PLEASE take the time to prepare it right.

It was crowded and it had such good reviews so we decided to take a chance. We had to wait awhile because it was crowded. We ordered a beer the beer not very cold. The clam chowder was really good and hearty. The fish tacos were terrible the guacamole was old and no flavor and the chips were stale the fish tacos so spicy that you could not even taste the fish I ate one of the tacos and my lips mouth was on fire . I like spicy but not so much that you can not taste flavor. My husbands crabcakes were good he said. I will not be back I will not recommend to anyone. I was really disappointed. The scenery is the best. The food is overpriced and not fresh at all.

I Called in to get a to go order. We were told they can not take carry out orders over the phone that I would have to come in to place the order at the bar and ask for to go plates. Seemed wierd but I ran the boat to the dock tied it up and walked inside to place an order for 4. I went to the bar to place our order she told me to see the hostess she then went to the kitchen and came back to inform me the in fact could not do a to go order that I would have to sit down and eat. It would have been nice to know when I called them in the first place.

Fries:bad, red snapper special:bad, too much or too strong soy sauce on it, server forgot our appetizers, service slow, server warned us not to order another dish regular on the menu with soy sauce because of the too strong soy sauce. Said the manager and cook insists it be on menu but most people send it back. Then why still offer it? Come to Eastern shore every year on Anniversary, this was our 31st, restaurant choice food regret. Tarnish on this memory. Only saving grace was very nice people and a beautiful sunset.

Stopped by this place on a trip up to Philadelphia and we werent disappointed at all! Decided to go based on the other Google reviews and they were all spot on! Oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious, definitely recommend the clam chowder, and the catch of the day was prepared with perfection. They were out of the Jimmie crabs so we got a crab cake sandwich instead and it was wonderful. If you are looking for a great local seafood fare bar/restaurant then this is your place!

Good food - lemon salad with seared tuna was excellent, and kids menu was good and cheap. Very kid friendly on the patio, and pet friendly too. Seems like it was mostly locals and some eclipse travelers. The only drawback was the extremely loud music on the patio, despite my asking for a quiet place. Sure, if it was full after dark, more of a waterfront bar feel, Id understand. But this was 4pm on a Monday and just families with kids. Overall, still pretty good.

The food here is great, I love the clam strip basket and shrimp tacos. However, their decision to stop doing take-out orders on the weekend and on holiday weekends is very inconvenient! The place is small compared to the amount of business they receive so take out orders is beneficial to customers who cannot find seating or do not have time to wait "2hrs" to be seated! They should really reconsider takeout...
