This location provides a much needed rest stop for folks doing long bike rides on the W&OD bike trail. That said, I always get the sense that the owners have a tense relationship with cyclists - charges are clearly marked if you want to get ice or water for your water bottle, etc. In one conversation I had with owner, I believe the issue comes from fact that some folks think they can use the parking lot to leave their cars during a ride (bad idea). On one particular occasion the owner had his catering van blocked by someone out on the trail. I get it. That said, the staff are great and the outdoor seating is always a gathering spot for cyclists of all ages. They have quick bites like energy bars and Gatorade perfect to grab and get back on the bike. Ive eaten the actual BBQ here on one occasion and came away unimpressed. It was decent but not worth the drive or ride unless you live close. Im not sure asking for Gluten Free options would get much of a response.

Nice family-owned BBQ joint. They post where that days pig used to make the BBQ came from (nice touch). Friendly staff. Menu selection on the mains is limited currently to sandwiches (pulled pork, chicken or beef), baby back ribs, and hot dogs (for the kids?). Sides available are baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and mac n cheese. Tried a 1/2 rack baby back pork ribs. I liked but there wasnt much of a smoke pink ring as I like (longtime smoker of BBQ myself). Slight disappointment. Also tried their pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Similar lack of deep smoke flavor but cooked fine overall and was filling. They do offer a sweet / slightly spicy / thin BBQ sauce on the side, along with a vinegary base sauce which I liked. Overall it was nice but not near the best Ive ever had. If come back here though for lunch if Im around the area again.

I was born and raised in Apex, NC. My family builds whole hog cookers and we know what real NC BBQ is supposed to taste like. AND THIS IS IT! Missing home? Finding that VA doesnt know squat about good BBQ? Me too!! Ive lived in Northern Virginia for almost 10 years now. And this is the first place I have found that serves real NC BBQ.... red sauce and all. Id like to say something about the sides, but frankly all I remember is how the BBQ tasted. I have to be honest and say that as I stood looking at the menu, I wanted some of everything. But I knew that I would be back again and try other things. The Mac n Cheese is really, really good, as are the green beans. The service is quick, the people are friendly, the restaurant is clean and the food... well, dont take my word for it, go try it for yourself. Its real NC BBQ.

If youve ever lived down south (Georgia or Texas), youll find the BBQ options here pretty average to poor. Youll also find them odd (shredded "beef" and not brisket? no sausage?) and lacking in smoke. Thats not to say theyre bad, theyre just very, very average. There also arent very many sides to choose from. Ive had the beans (not bad) and the mac-n-cheese (decent but a little too creamy betraying the dominance of milk product over cheese and needs salt/bacon). But this place is still worth a visit just for the gloriously sweet and fresh corn bread that is utterly devoid of the hip jalepeno nonsense (or other attempts to make cornbread spicy) that appears in popular places down south. In sum: Pork > Beef. Beans > Mac-n-Cheese. Cornbread > The Field.

Excellent Place! The food is delicious. The zone is great, close to the Old Dominion Trail Road. You should stop there and try an excellent BBQ. Excelente lugar. La comida es deliciosa. El ambiente es inigualable en la zona, al lado del Old Dominion Trail Road. Una parada obligada para quienes quieran probar una excelente barbacoa.

Maybe it was an off night, but the food was mediocre at best, the service was not bad for cafeteria style service. I had the nights special, beef brisquet w/ Mac and cheese and baked Beans...enjoyed the beans, the brisquet was dry and flavorless, the BBQ sauce was watery and not very flavorful, the Mac and cheese was basic Mac and cheese. My companions both had the pulled pork, one had a couple bites and was done...she also had the beans and the potato salad which we both thought was way overpowered by dill, the other ate his entire sandwich but later confessed that this was because someone else had paid for it.

We used Carolina Brothers for our backyard wedding in Round Hill, VA on June 4th 2016. They were FABULOUS!! My New York family loved it just as his southern family did! They were on-time, super friendly, and the food was DELICIOUS! My only suggestion to them is to put a sign on their beverage bin to let people know it contains soda and water. My husband and I bought soda we were going to use after they left.. Instead the guests used ours the whole time so the money we spent for Carolina Brothers to bring soda and water went to waste. :/ They still deserve 5 stars though-it was great! Thank you so much!!

The secret to eating anywhere is knowing what they do really well and at Carolina Brothers, the secret is the ribs. The pulled pork is an excellent version of vinegar based barbeque. (Try it even if you dont care for vinegar... the vinegar taste cooks off and just leaves the spices). They take a lot of pride in their baked beans, but I dont care about beans or slaw, so Im no judge. The mac and cheese is fine but there is no love in it. Neat building with a lot of history and a great place to stop if you are out on the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) trail at the Ashburn Rd crossing. (mile 27.5)

UNFAIR PRICING POLICY!!!!! Been going to Carolina Brothers for several years and the food is good. HOWEVER, went there today and they instituted a new policy which for their BBQ by the 1lb cost more if you eat it there rather than leave with it. My situation is I cannot eat bread so I typically order the pulled chicken by itself which cost $12. Today however I was told that since I was going to eat there I would be charge $18. I was told that the was to offset the cost of cleaning the tables. First the tables werent clean second I did not see take out discounts for their other items. What a joke!!!

BBQ in the national capital area is simply poor. That being said, this is one of the best places in NOVA. Smoke-filled, a gravel lot, and a building that could collapse at any minute. They appear to do primarily catering, so they have a spartan menu of beans, BBQ, and slaw. They also "have" brisket and ribs, but there has not been a great deal of consistency in those offerings (the times Ive visited they havent had any). Otherwise, this is a take-out style BBQ house with very tasty smoked pork, and a number of NC-style sauces to choose from.

It was good. But come on... the only thing that was worth the money was the meat. We asked the cashier, "Is everything homemade? To which she replied, "Yea pretty much". The macaroni and cheese is obviously straight out of a Kraft box, and the beans were obviously straight from the can, tasted like Bushs Grillin beans. From now on, the only time I will eat at this place is if Im bonking on a bike ride, and in desperate need of food. Otherwise stop in Leesburg before or Herndon after, both have very good food.
