hey bröther
havent updated my monthly pizza blog in a while so I finally got back around to it, and its time to spill the sauce, folks: 1.) Este Pizza - Really rebounded after a few months in the middle of the knot (the garlic knot lol). All jokes aside they have become the best pizza spot in the SLC area. The red sauce is exquisite and robust; combined with the wonderful 4 cheese blend gives every bite a nod to the forefathers of Italian pizza prestige. 2.) The Pie - The crust was nice and thick and the flavor was enticing, to say the least. The atmosphere isnt great, the interior just SCREAMED "How I Met Your Mother", and none of the good episodes, more like Season 8 Episode 6. Can you believe the frustration between Nick and Robin? Absurd! 3.) Pie Hole - Fair prices for good slices! Great job by the chef led to happy tastebuds. Up and coming place so Este and The Pie better watch their dough. I will NOT be shutting my /pie hole/ about this place haha! 4.) Free Wheeler Pizza - Mama mia thats-a decent pizza! The place looks like a diner they threw some tablecloths on and said "sort of a fancy restaurant, but we serve pizza". Make up your mind, do you want to be a pizza place that clings too desperately to the look of a restaurant or a restaurant that specializes in pizza and pizza-like foods? Try the calzone, its low-calorie and quite good with a ranch dipping sauce. 5.) Big Daddys Pizza - Overpriced and disappointed at the lack of big daddies. If they included more big daddies the name wouldnt be so misleading and the quality of the entire shop would likely improve. 2/5 Will be sending these newly revised rankings to my email chain. Until next month, Pizza Pals!

Good but not great. The dough is a little undercooked for my taste. Ive been here a few times and every experience has been different. I like the calazones more than the pizza. Th staff is usually very nice however my last experience was not good at all. I wanted to know if it was cheaper to buy pizza by the slice or a whole pizza. The girl quickly responded with "well it depends on how many pieces you buy". Then I had to ask what pizza the sliced pizza comes from and how many slices are in that pizza. I had to do the math myself and I didnt mind. What I did mind is her attitude and clear annoyance with me. I was the only only customer in line and the place didnt have too many people there. The girl behind the counter had a tone and a huffines to her voice. Then when I told her the order was to go she said "right" in about the rudest tone Ive ever heard someone in customer service use. When I go my pizza she never said anything, just gave me the pizza and went back to doing whatever she was doing. Ill still stop by for a slice of pizza because I go to Blackhouse every week but not if the same girl is working there. She made me feel like I wasnt welcome there.

When I read a lot of rave reviews I become suspicious because human nature expects the best of quality and service and will usually not write reviews if that is the case. However, people will complain when their expectations are not met and such is the case here. Overpriced, uncooked unsightly clumps of bell peppers, dry and unsavory, virtually no cheese,. Even my son would not eat the take home. There were only 4 people in the restaurant when we first went in and ordered on a Saturday night and it took 20 minutes to receive our pizza. The waitress was friendly, helpful and we liked her. If you are not a busy restaurant in Sugarhouse on a Saturday night, particularly a pizza.restaurant...something is wrong. Our gut instincts told us to get up and leave the restaurant as soon as we sat down and got a feel for everything and we usually will leave but we didnt.....our mistake. We called ahead of our arrival and the girl who answered the phone tried to put us on hold but we werent having it and when we got there, it was not busy. We are not overly picky but we do expect the food and service to be worthy of the price. The only good experience was our waitress.

I am GF and always excited to find a place with GF options. We went last night to check out Este in Sugarhouse. We had a party of 5 with two people GF. The service was slow and it took a while to get our orders, even though it was not a busy night. Then all of the orders arrived at different times. After the first pizza was brought to our table we were told it would be another 8 minutes for the calzone to arrive. The GF pizzas arrived even later than that. This made it hard to enjoy eating together, since the first pizza was cold by the time the last orders were brought to the table. We ended up getting our own to-go boxes because our server was missing (we could see that she was sitting down eating). We waited longer to receive our checks. Then we found that the totals were wrong (one GF came to $12 the other with one extra topping was $26). By the time the error was corrected our even was shot and we were all anxious to leave. The pizza was good, but the overall experience was so poor it will be a long time before we attempt going back again.

Ive been coming to Este regularly since it was on the north side of 21st south. After the move and change of management I still love this place just as much. I come here every Wednesday for their 2 slices and a drink special because its a great deal for fantastic pizza. They have your classic pepperoni and cheese pizza, but they also have a huge variety of more fancy pizzas - all thin crust. Not only is their pizza fantastic but their appetizers are equally as good - the fried ravioli with marinara is a must try if youre here for dinner. Also, Ive read some other reviews referring to the atmosphere here as "grunge", which is not true. Ive lived in Sugar House for almost 30 years and Este reflects the culture of Sugar House before it was rebuilt. The graffiti and local stickers on the booths remind me of visiting all the local shops in the old Sugar House Plaza before it was torn down. The atmosphere does cater to a younger crowd, but so does the rest of Sugar House.

I came into this oasis on one of my darkest days. My father had died one day earlier, I was evicted, AND had my credit card stolen that day. I was planning to kill myself and scrounged enough money to buy my means. On my way to Smiths, I wandered into their store tiredly, only to see their great deal for two massive slices of pizza and a drink for only $6. I purchased the meal and took my seat. A very kind woman, Alexx, approached me and asked if she could sit with me for a moment. Within minutes, I was sobbing, spilling my guts out to her. She soothed me, encouraging me to persevere. After talking to her for 20 minutes, I left, but before I could leave, a bus girl with green hair gave me a slice on the house and said to me, "you got this. Have a nice night." All in all, great food and they prevented me from killing myself. Love this establishment.
