this should be 2.5, but we all know thats not an option. The reviews for Bombay House paired with the aroma of the various spices and long line/wait to get in had me twitterpated to feast. Now to be fair, I have VERY specific dishes I order at Indian restaurants and veer out infrequently, but I was not entirely impressed with my experience. When my sweet, sweet, husband and I pulled up to the restaurant to retrieve our take-out treasure, many groups of people were waiting outside in what I can only assume was equal anticipation. After fighting my way through the indoor crowd, I arrive at the host stand for our take-out... The gent at the front was neither rude nor welcoming. I understand, its a busy night. I give him my name and he proceeds to read me a list of 8-10 different names without explanation. I repeat my name again, and he says "oh... not sure why they have you under Danny". Well Im not sure either, but thats an easy mistake when placing a phone order. Fine, fine. I pay, then Im told he needs to finish what hes doing even though my food was already ready and within sight. After finishing his "project" and helping 2 other guests, my mouth is watering as he finally hands me my bounty and we head home. The smells were so incredible that I almost asked my husband to pull over so that I could dig in. I COULD NOT wait. After tearing open the bags and laying out the goods, I blend my rice and chicken makhani to my liking, tear of a piece of onion naan and eagerly take my first bite... Sheer disappointment. While the spice level was on point (I ordered hot which is very very hot but thats a-how-I-like it), the chicken was a bummer. First, they use a lot of dark meat. There were also strange looking pieces connected together with fat or gristle or whatever its called. It resembled a bunch of tiny grapes. Additionally, there were cashews and raisins... now its my fault for not fully reading the description, and they were easy to pick out, but thats not a makhani I know and love (and yes, Ive tried many). The naan was delicious, but slightly overpriced for the serving. Rice, on point. I tried the chicken tikka masala as well which was good (and was more similar to the consistency of the makhani I expected), but Im not a huge fan of masala. I would never go back, but I respect all the reviewers that love the joint. Its just not for me between the service and the dishes. I eat Indian at least 2-3 days a week and Im saddened if this is considered the best. The quality of the chicken is so low rent :(

Salty City Eats
Unparalleled Indian Cuisine in the Salty City We recommend: Drink - Kingfisher Beer or Mango Lassi Starter - Vegetable Samosa Main - Chicken Tikka Masala accompanied with an order of Garlic Naan Dessert - Peshawari Naan (actually not on dessert menu, but oh so good and basically a dessert) Experience: From the moment you walk into the door, this place just oozes authenticity. The gentleman at the reception desk sets the tone with his wardrobe and his engaging smile, never mind all the plaques and awards over his shoulder . Decor and music only contribute to the experience without going overboard. This place is always crowded, and as such, you will feel a positive vibe because of the sheer number of people there. Look around when you, and see who the servers, chefs and bussers are....authentic! Food: Options from vegetarian to lamb to chicken and everything in that general vicinity. We have not been to India, however judging by the clientele, we would guess that this is just about as close as it gets. Service: Consistent every time weve been. Servers float around the busy floor doing their job effectively and without the fluff. Their job is neither to entertain or make you laugh, but rather provide you with your needs; namely taking your order correctly and providing suggestions, keeping your beverages topped off, delivering and assuring order accuracy. They do this well and respectfully. Do yourself a favor and get here soon and get here often!

This place can please the Americans in Salt Lake who have very little choice whn it comes to Indian food, but for someone from India, this restaurant is definitely below mediocre. Pros- 1. The ambiance is good 2. Their rotis and parathas (flatbread section) are the only items truly authentic!! Cons- 1. First indian restaurant which DOESNOT serve Basmati rice and instead uses a cheap substitute rice, which was on more than one occasion half cooked. 2. The service is slow but cannot blame them, coz the place is crowded..so be ready for some wait. 3. I ordered a Paneer Masala (veg) and my husband Chicken Makhani (non-veg), we could not differentiate between the two when they came to our table. The curry used was same, one bowl was with paneer cubes and the other with chicken cubes...and both curries were the same cream based americanised version of onions and tomatoes...this was a total disappointment. 4. Its sad that they use the name "bombay" house, coz there is nothing Bombay-ish in their menu. Their menu is mostly mughlai (northindian) cooked in a southindian style, which kills the authenticity right there. Food is overall bland and lacks the zesty indian flavour.

After a couple of disastrous dinners at other Indian restaurants - I was completely blown way by the food and service at Bombay House! The place is neat and clean and very tastefully decorated - great ambiance. The food was excellent and the staff extremely courteous and friendly. When we complemented the owner about the very flavorful rotis and naans - he told us that he makes them from a hand ground mix of grains that he carefully selects!!! We were a little skeptical at first, but he actually showed us the machines that he uses to grind the grains! He also explained that even the grains that he buys are organic and chemical-free and every dish is prepared from the original grain!!! No wonder the food tasted so good and healthy. I have never seen such a restaurant so focused on serving tasty and healthy food! I would *STRONGLY* recommend this restaurant. I know we will not be eating anywhere else in the SLC area. A very satisfied customer :)

the food was good.....but my lord the service. Ive been to funerals that were better staffed than this place. It took them almost an hour to seat us, then it took an additional hour for them to get us our food. The titanic sank in less time than it took us to get our food. Christopher Columbus got to the Americas on the Santa Maria faster than we got our food. The Jews arrived in the Promise Land in a more expédiant fashion than the manner in which we recieved our meal. Ok those may be exaggerations, but still. An hour wait for food is a long time. Its like getting to the airport terminal on a busy day just before your flights about to leave and then getting a call from the vet informing you that your dog died after they put him under for routine teeth cleaning. The food simply wasnt good enough to warrant the wait. Point stands.

I refused to eat Indian food for years because I hated the smell of curry. Then some friends took us out to the Bombay House for dinner- I was converted! Not only is Indian Food now one of my favorite things, but the Bombay house is my absolute favorite restaurant in all of Salt Lake Valley. The veggie coconut Kurma and the Peshwari Naan (flat bread) are my favorite menu items, though I have never yet tried something I didnt like. The authentic chai tea and lassis are also great. The service is always exceptional and the atmosphere is good for a casual meal or a celebration. If you are a seasoned ethnic-food eater, or a skeptic of new flavors, the Bombay House will not disappoint. Bonus- its a locally-owner business which supports the Salt Lake economy!!
