I would love to be able to comment on the food however, when I tried to go I was ignored. I am not exaggerating (I started timing) 3 minutes after walking in and being ignored by every employee (I was alone) a party of 3 walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner. She then proceeded to have a server seat them and walked past me to check on other tables. I would chalk it up to the fact t I was strangely invisible and unnoticeable (for the n first time in my life), except for the fact that the server moved me out of the way (without a word) so that he could get menus for the party of 3. I waited 3 more minutes and decided that they must not want business from a single diner. And lest you argue that they were busy, there were 2 tables on the patio (before the 3 top that came after me) and about 1/2 full inside. This was early (7:00 ish) on a Friday evening, so the 4 servers plus owner I saw (but apparently did not see me) should have been enough. I was and continue to be so frustrated by this since I really wanted another place in my neighborhood that I can walk to and enjoy dinner and some wine. I doubt I will give it another chance. Very very disappointed!

Rating a 2 only due to service... their food is incredible and the owner has done very well to integrate good flavors, quality ingredients, and reasonable costs. But well be ordering to-go from now on. I have visited this restaurant at least 10 times in past several years. Usually servers seem overworked by their tables, somewhat irritated by our presence or like they simply dont want to be there. But last night was the kicker. Showed up early, about 6pm and the restaurant was almost empty-- 2-3 tables of 2 tops. Male greeter tried to seat us at the bar but we asked for a table closer to the front and window, as no one else was there and he said they didnt have upcoming reservations for those tables.he exhaled, again irritated, and said "were going to get busy, saving those tables for 4 tops. I can sit you there if you REALLY want". He seemed very put-out by us and we certainly didnt feel welcomed. Wow. Sorry our money and presence isnt good enough in an otherwise uncrowded and unreserved restaurant. Seems like poor business to keep tables for people who havent shown up yet when you have two people present for dinner.

The Avenues Bistro on Third is everything you want from a neighborhood restaurant. It is cozy, quaint, eclectic, friendly and serves up delicious food to boot. The restaurant is located in the historic area of downtown Salt Lake City. It boasts cozy seating, a summer patio, a speakeasy and an urban farm right out back. The restaurant is small and not the best for large groups, but the patio is open in the summer with extended seating during that time. The restaurant servers brunch and Dinner and also serves alcohol. Brunch includes things like huevos rancheros, breakfast plates and sandwiches. Dinner dishes handcrafted new american fare. It is hard for me to not order the burger with delicious candied bacon, but trying something else has always been worth it. The wine/ beer and cocktail menu is small but chalk full of some of the best wines and cocktail selections. Make sure to order the carrot cake or try any other delicious treat from their wonderful pastry chef.

Love it! Lived in the neighborhood many decades ago when the building was a small pharmacy/soda fountain where I used to buy my 12 cent Marvel comics (kept em too. what a great investment!). Today its the most intimate, atmospheric bistro in the city, with great food. We were told the menu will be changing soon, but I hope they keep the beet salad. Not only the best beet salad Ive ever had, one of the best salads, period! My companion was assured by our friendly server that the famous bistro burger will be staying for sure. And I hope the trout does as well. Always a good selection of craft beers as well. We arrived fairly late, but were treated royally as always, and they let us keep chattering away until they were ready to leave. I met the owner a few years back, and when I came back at least months later, she still greeted me - by name - like a long-lost friend. This place is a keeper for sure!

Super sympa comme petit restaurant local. Bonne ambiance, service attentif.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Salt Lake City. From the exquisite food selections to the eclectic atmosphere, Avenues Bistro offers an experience which extends beyond your taste buds. It truly doesnt matter what you order, the presentation will be on-point and the the quality of each selection cant be compared to your ordinary diner because.. Avenues Bistro is far from ordinary. Choose Avenues Bistro the next time you need to meet with a business associate or reconnect with an old friend; or say you have a free morning and could use a great cup of coffee, just to sit back and reflect? You will be pleasantly surprised by what Salt Lake City has to offer.

Go Aves! We stopped in for an early dinner before a SLAC show over in another hidden SLC neighborhood. We chose to sit in the little patio instead of the tempting Speakeasy section. Five 2-top tables in close proximity means you wont want to have secret discussions involving trade secrets, but it would be easy to butt in on a conversation and meet new friends... the atmosphere lends itself to that. The Avocado Toast appetizer was amazing! I had the salmon ruben and it was a little salty and rich for my taste, but VERY flavorful. Excellent bread pudding for dessert. Very friendly wait staff. Well be back.

Absolutely lovely! Gracious servers and cooks. We had the house burger and the polenta burger, both were stunning. The burger was perfectly cooked and the flavors were well balanced. The home fries accompanying it were so flavorful Ill be sure to try and replicate them at home. The polenta burger was a first and if Im ever back in SLC I will do it again. The polenta was crispy on the outside and creamy inside, the side salad had fresh fruit and crisp greens. I wish we had enough time to go back again but we were just passing through. Go here and eat well.

We’ve come for years and live in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, their prices have increased so much, and the portions decreased (the hamburger bun was dry, cold, and smaller than what I had 4-5 months ago), so doubtful we’ll be back. The trout we had last night was cooked well, but presented over a mix of creamed carrots/potatoes that actually had no taste. Less appetizing than baby food. It was really disappointing from a place where we’ve had great food and have enjoyed visiting with the owner.

The service was mediocre and we did not feel welcome at all. The water was served in rocks glasses which is just weird but kind of ironic in Utah. The food was tasty but nothing to write home about. It was very expensive and the servings were relatively tiny ( $25 for an 8 oz steak which had a lot of fat). We will not be returning. Not impressed. A local cafe in the Avenues should be on their game with stellar service, especially since there were only two other tables there when we went.
