My first time experience at Nama was horrible. When I first visited their place, the interior looks deteriorated and unsanitary. I sat down and the red paint was coming off from the table, which is a health/safety hazard due to potential consumption of paint. This was already a red flag to me, but I decided to try their food out anyways. I ordered Donkatsu ramen and the noodle was undercooked. When I bit into the noodles, I tasted the flour like texture that wasnt fully cooked. The broth was too thick and oily, with the milky base that was too much for the stomach. I decided to order their sushi and try it out to give benefit of a doubt. When I tried their sushi, the taste was not there. I can also see some of the menu items such as Mussell Kamikaze directly copying from Sushi Zushi. I wasnt happy about that at all. When an owner bring something new to San Antonio, the quality is rather sub-par or even worse. I believe Nama ramen did not make enough preparation to meet the highest quality standards and rushed it to open. Another problem I had was that the server named Billy that took care of me was rude and not as respectful. His attitude was dull, ignorant and did not bother giving quality service. He didnt give us napkins and not pouring water carefully that water was spilling on the table I was eating. My experience was rather horrible and will not visit this place again. If this type of restaurant or asian shop comes to town, I hope that the owner will not rush into opening the business and compromise the quality. I really do not want to see another sub-par quality that brings bad business ethics, food quality and service.

We recently visited Nama Ramen for lunch, and we were pleasantly surprised. Although there is only one ramen that was offered during lunch at the time of the review (shoyu), it was a good ramen. The broth was deep and flavorful (but not quite as complex as Ramen Tatsuya in Austin), and the meat was tender and flavorful as was the soft boiled egg. The weakest part of the ramen was the noodles. For whatever reason, they had an odd/bad mouth-feel and texture. They are not quite like any other ramen noodles Ive experienced, which is a bad thing in this case. We also ordered the bento box which included a Japanese salad, gyoza, rice, and an entree of Japanese curry. The gyoza were probably some of the best, if not the best, Ive had in a very, very long time and we ended up getting an appetizer order of them as a result of the two included in the bento box. The Japanese curry was also a real standout as it was sliced chicken dusted and covered with breadcrumbs and curry. It was outstanding. In short, Nama Ramen has some of the best ramen in town. Its been quite a while since Ive been to Kimura to compare, but one of these two spots are the only places I know of to get decent ramen without traveling to Austin.

I wish I could review the food; however, we did not get that far. We were a party of 5. There were 3 empty tables; a table for 2 and 2 tables that seat 4. The host wanted us to wait for a bigger table but, we asked if we could just sit at the table for 2 (my husband and I) and our 3 children at the table for 4. They stated they cannot do that, which is shocking since we were all paying customers. Whos to say we werent two seperate parties? All five individuals in my group were going to order and pay, why does it matter where we sat? The manager/owner came to us and stated they cannot do that since Thursdays they have a big dinner rush and have people waiting for 2 hours. Really, who waits for Ramen noodles for 2 hours? Anyway, we let them know we would just come back another time and the manager/owner says "ok have a good night" and stormed off. I understand that they are expecting a dinner rush but we were already there ready to be seated! We will never be going to this tiny, dingy and dark hole in the wall again. The lack of customer service and professionalism at this facility was appauling.

Ive only been here a hand full of times. Each time I seem to manage to arrive at a busy time. I do have to wait to be seated the longest Ive waited was half an hour or so. I believe the wait is worth it. I thoroughly enjoy the food and staff have always been kind. Yes it gets BUSY. I can see why people would say the service might be sub par but they are doing a job and can quickly go from a ten min wait to almost an hour or more. However I live a little on the fast side between working EMS and being a full time student being able to sit and not have a wait staff asking me how my food is every five min is nice. I think the food is perfect and have never had a real gripe about it. The little store they have now is cozy. Most times Im by myself when I go and that being said I sit alone. However when I sit by myself I dont feel like Im in this huge unknown place I feel like Im somewhere familiar. Im a return customer and will continue to be.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday for lunch and were severely disappointed. The menu is extremely limited - only one ramen bowl available. This was not advertised on their website or anywhere. The ramen broth was bland - just a salty canned chicken noodle soup flavor. The pork belly was not tender. I didnt want to eat both of the small pieces it contained. They only had canned sodas and no diet sodas. My boyfriend requested a fork but they have none. Which was ok he could deal with eating a bit slower. But what about someone with hand mobility issues or children? Seems ridiculous not to have just a couple on hand. Lastly the place could be a bit cleaned. We sat by a window that was very dirty and lots of dust on the blinds. Not exactly what you want to see while eating. Maybe dinner is better but I dont think either of us will be back.

This is a no frills ramen place. I ordered the tantankon (pork) ramen. The broth was creamy and tasty. The raman noodle was decent, but Ive had better. There were generous portions of the port belly in the ramen. For about $10 for a bowl, the price is fair. The restaurant also has sushi. I sat at the counter by the sushi counter and saw that the fish wasnt that fresh or some of the fish have been there for a long time and decided not to order the sushi. The interior decor is nothing to boast about. It reminds of a hole the wall place. They could definitely have improved the decor of the restaurant. Update 10/16: I came back here for ramen again. Ill upgrading the food. The broth is really good and ramen (noodle) is also very good. This is the best ramen Ive had in San Antonio. Will make it regular visit when Im in town.

Overpriced and overrated. We arrived early, sat down outside, and waited until they opened. The outside waiting area was dingy and flies were swarming around so we were glad to be seated shortly after they opened. We were seated at a small table right next to the door. The lighting was very dim and whenever people came in or out of the restaurant the brightness and glare of the light outside shone in our faces repeatedly. The broth from the bowels of noodles we ordered was good and the sushi was ok but that was about it. Also chopsticks with chopstick hinges and a melamine soup spoon are the only utensils. They do not provide common utensils so if you dont know how to use chopsticks your out of luck. This place is a little overpriced hole in the wall with one restroom. It wasnt worth our money or time.
