What could be better than great food, fun music and awesome service right on the beautiful shores of Lake Travis...nothing, I say! This place is top notch all the way around as it has everything you need to experience what is great about Austin and the lake. My family has enjoyed every trip we have taken to this fine establishment, and would make more trips if it was just a little closer for us. Our kids always look forward to feeding the enormous catfish, and although the food is so good it is hard to have any left over for the fish, the large portion sizes make it easier to have a little left over for them. The wait staff and managers are always attentive to our needs, and put forth extra effort to ensure our family has an enjoyable experience. Visit often, and stay late!

Stopped in by boat on Mothers Day; first time to the updated place, had many stops before at the old Gnarly Gar, Really like the new place and setup, with high expectations of the new place. It did not disappoint, the food was so much better than the old place, which had unfortunately gone down hill over the years. So, YES, we are really pleased with the new place and the food which was really good. It was quite a wait for the food, which we attributed to Mothers Day, as there was quite the rush after we arrived. We will be back to try other things on the menu. Hoping they keep up the food quality, as that is most important to us. Many thanks.

I think the only good experience I had here was the guy that helped us dock the boat. Beforehand, I tried calling my order ahead of time so I can pick it up and enjoy my meal in my boat but they never answered. I sat at the restaurant for an hour to finally hear back from my waitress just to let us know itll be ready in about 15 minutes. There were customers next to us that didnt have that kind of patience and left before the waitress could come back. Mind you, they seemed fully staffed and the crew was wandering around a lot. Im now an hour past due for my boat rental and hungry as hell!

Food around the lake is usually average at best, but the Gnarly Gar takes it one step further with some unique selections and fresh ingredients. Dont worry, they have all the usual favorites and the kids will find something (even the picky ones). My family likes this place a lot. Good food, great views and breezes. Whats not to like I ask you? Oh, the service is pretty good, about what you would expect at the lake. Sitting at the bar guarantees you better service as the girl that is usually there is very attentive and friendly.

This is a great place to go when you are on Lake Travis. Watching it expand to where they can handle big private events on the second floor was a great thing to see. The owners care about your experience and the staff make it a good one. Live bands and friendly regulars make this place a must when you are out and about for good times, good food and having fun. The place to go. Tell Todd, Flip said so. Maybe Ill get a free drink.....

I only had a few drinks here so Im not sure about the food. But there were two really cool aspects about this place... This restaurant is literally on the water and rocks with the waves! You can pull your boat right up to the restaurant and talk on it!! And it seems there are about a million catfish that spot underneath the restaurant. They give you food so that you can feed them right from your table. And they are always hungry!

Very slow to get our food. Were there for an hour before it showed up. Waitress was good and brought drinks quickly, but something was up in the kitchen. Was a big bummer since we were renting a boat and lost an hour because of this. Will pack a lunch next time. The food was nothing to write home about, but normally that wouldnt be a huge thing since it is on a lake and we were just getting sandwiches.

The Gnarly Gar is a must for anyone visiting the Lake Travis hill country. The food is OK but the atmosphere cant be beat on a nice day. Dozens of huge cat fish constantly swim back and forth waiting for food to be tossed overboard. Did I mention it was a floating restaurant? Call before you go though, the schedule can be a little inconsistent.

Service was slow and food was just average. The views of the water and the surrounding water environment with boats and things were amazing. If you have no expectation for food or wait time and are going to enjoy a good time talking with friends and enjoying the views for $10-25 a person than it is a good place.

My family really enjoys our time at the Gar. I miss the regular tacos and quesadillas. Two things Id change if I could: 1 ) the corn on the side-its awful 2) the wait for food-no matter how few customers it takes minimum an hour from time you order. That is a real bummer. I look forward to seeing what is to come!

We give the Gar 5 stars for the changes. If you have a boat you can actually park, the deck out front is wonderful and covered, and the food was terrific. What a nice change. I had a salad with some tuna and I was pleasantly surprised. Hub had the chicken tacos, they were great! Wow! Good job, Todd.

Location is great, food has not improved in the new building. 4 people for lunch, food was served at intervals with each of us eating as food was served. I had a hamburger, obviously a frozen pattie. It may be a great place for drinks & live music, dont expect the food to be very good.

This place was great!!!! The food was average yes, your typical bar good, burgers etc. But the atmosphere is fantastic, the view is nice, and the staff was great! Great place for a drink and food on a nice day! Feeding the fish at the end was fun too! Will come back when I come through

I love hanging out at the Gar. It is a perfect place to watch the unbelievable Lake Travis sunsets and the food and drinks are good too!! Dont miss the huge catfish who lay on the top of the water and wait for someone to throw them a chip. They hang out on the east edge of the dock.

Great great food, super cool and fun experience would definitely recommend for everybody. The staff was great and treated you like family and made sure you had the best service over all. Overall great fun restraunt and id highly suggest it for everyone

Came here for lunch during fishing. Cant say anything bad about this place. They had someone help Dock our boat. The philly sandwich, wings, and skillet ice cream was fantastic. Excellent service and an awesome view of the lake from our table.

Standard lake food and patrons. Lots of drinks raised and the crowd can get a bit rowdy in the late evenings on weekends and holidays. No draft beer, average food, decent service, boat parking. Can be crowded at times and had bands some nights.
