Blue Mesa Grill was one of the few restaurants that my colleagues were willing to venture out to more than a mile or so from our hotel. I convinced them to give it a go since the food didnt sound like your typical Mexican cuisine like wed had during the other meals of our trip. In fact, one of the first things our server told us (somewhat obnoxiously) when we first sat down was "we arent a Mexican restaurant and we arent a Tex-Mex restaurant". She didnt go on to tell us what they ARE but since she was the worst part of our dining experience we decided to just figure it out on our own. To start off with, the location is a bit odd. Its hard to get to from the major roads nearby even though you can easily see it when driving by. Once you find your way to the lot, however, and make your way inside, you will be surprised by a very bright and modern interior. There was a good mix of couples and families inside but it was fairly quiet and comfortable. As I said initially, I didnt particularly like our server. She didnt do anything wrong per say but she just rubbed me the wrong way and didnt feel overly anxious to help us. She did bring over chips and salsa fairly quickly though so it mildly made up for her annoying presence. The chips that are brought to the table are a mix of sweet potato chips and blue/white corn tortilla chips. The sweet potato ones were exceptionally good and tasted freshly made but the other tortilla chips appeared store-bought. I could be wrong though since they did make the claim that everything is freshly made with fresh ingredients. The star of this opening act was the smoked chili salsa! You get 2 different salsas brought to the table (in unfortunately small portions). One is a fairly bland and mild tomato salsa and the other is one of the most interesting salsas Ive ever tasted. It tastes like it has bacon in it (a result of smoked chilis). It is nothing short of genius! As I had the whole trip, my friend and I split our entrees so we could get a taste of some different stuff. I ordered the Chefs tacos and she ordered the Blue Crab and Shrimp enchaladas. I dont even know how to describe my pleasure at these dishes (orgasmic maybe...). They were wildly delicious! They are both must-try dishes if you decide to eat here... and you will because Im telling you that it was good. The food portions were also exactly right - not too much food and not too little. You probably wont be taking food home with you because youll eat it all and feel satisfied. Youll have a smile on your face when you walk out! The best part of the food here is that it was utterly unique. It was unlike any Mexican food Ive had, so although I didnt particularly like our server, I will concede that she was right. Go here!!

A lot of attitude from angry belligerent server. Portly older guy with a hipster soul patch. Dont know what I did to the man, but he had a chip on his shoulder. It seemed to start when a man I was dining with brought in his unfinished bottle of coca-cola. Putting the blame squarely on me, he very hostilely asked if I would like a glass for that. I replied "No, thats not mine." to which he responded by asking the man I was dining with in a much more polite tone. Hostile glares continued for the rest of the meal, which had me wondering what I might be eating that wasnt on the menu. When he served the person next to me, he made sure to put his arm less than an inch from my face in what was an obvious display of disrespect. I cannot imagine what I could have possibly done to deserve this treatment. Apart from that, my food was brought to me cold and congealed. Portions are small and lack flavor. If they had heated the plates, it might have survived the wait between kitchen and table.

Sorry not sorry this is a snotty review First of all it looks like such a nice restaurant but the tables are fake wood and the chairs are crap. It wasnt busy at all so we were seated immediately, but our waitor didnt come for about five minutes. They gave us salsa after a few minutes and it was very good, however the chips were EXTREMELY SALTY they were so salty it gave me a headache!! Then after waiting a little too long for our waitor to come take our order, another waitress had to get our drinks and different chips. Finally when our waitor came to take our order he smelled like he smoked 2 packs. The food came pretty fast, but the steak in my tacos was way under cooked you could still hear the cow scream. The queso was very good but the chips that came with it were saltier than the last. And the sauce on my moms enchiladas was too spicy to even finish one. So all in all it was a bad experience. Ugh

Cant say that I enjoyed the machismo of Pancho, the waiter, or the way he insulted my 60 year old mother by announcing to the entire table that she was obviously so stupid as to believe everything that he told her, even such a ridiculous thing as him being married to two women. I have no idea why he would insult his patrons like this, but he didnt pick on any of the men at the table, just the polite 60 year old woman with multiple academic degrees who was too nice to correct his ignorance. He also didnt refrain from hitting on another woman at my table multiple times... right in front of her husband. the food was alright.

Got seated right away, zero wait time, nice vibe, the chips are so unique! The waiter was great, refilled our drinks often. I liked the variety of the kids menu, so many great options. I ordered a chicken enchilada and the chile relleno with cheese. Unfortunately, I really didnt like it. I struggled eating. The food was definitely cold, the chile relleno was as if it was heated for 7 seconds at most, stuffed with melted cheese and had sauce thrown on it, just too crunchy to be a chile relleno. The rice and beans where good but by far my favorite thing was the little scoop of masita on the side and the chips.

Sunday brunch is the reason to come to Blue Mesa grill. The food is good and plentiful. Expect a wait, and thought loud and busy, I always seem to have a good time. Service overall has been good, however it seems every other time we go to the Plano location we get stuck with a server named Dante, who is unattentive, borderline rude at times, and seems to never be around.
Bottom line, he restaurant is a good way to kick off your Sunday, expect good food (and bottomless mimosas and champaign) but don't expect anything fancy. And avoid Dante, he's a sure way to get terrible service.

Disappointed, and will not go back again. This place used to be one of our favorites but has gone down tremendously in over the last few years. We had a bad experience a few months ago, but gave them another try last Sunday, and it will be our last. We were so disappointed. Food took for ever to arrive, almost 45 minutes. Fajita was so rubbery and stale. The waiter who acted as if it was our fault that he didnt like his job, or he had to work on Sunday. He was rude and did not check our table at all. We had to ask other waiters walking by for drinks or water. What the heck happened Blue Mesa?
