I totally get how old Asian people are, but this establishments service was completely unacceptable. The most rude people I have ever had to encounter. And Im saying this because Ive been to a lot of old traditional Asian restaurants in Houston where outsiders arent normally very welcomed. I came to eat at this restaurant, because I love their food (albeit the price is more expensive than other places, probably because of location). My bf and I were quickly seated and right away our server asked for our drinks. My bf and I politely stated our drinks and thanked the server. Our drinks were served rather quickly, but before they could be put on the table the lady asked for our order. We werent ready so we nicely asked for more time and thanked her for the drinks. She seemed a bit upset about it, but I didnt think too much of it. It wasnt very long until she came back asking, "what do you want"? It was rather rude, but again let it slide and state our order. She quickly took our menus and dismissively muttered an, "uhuh". Im peeved but I dont want to get angry so both my bf and I thank her and shrug it off. All the while I notice that she is being rather nice and even laughing with the other customers. I wanted to chalk it up to the fact they may be regulars, but listening closer I can tell that they are not. The food arrived and again the rude a dismissive uhuh when we thank her. Our drinks were never refilled, though they did make sure to bring an extra glass of water in the beginning. The food is very delicious. It was fresh and amazing. I do love their food, but this is definitely the last time I come to dine in. I come here for one specific dish that most other places cant compete with. It is an absolute shame that this place has the worst service. Not only was the server rude, but the gentleman taking my check did not bother to answer my question and rushed me on my way out. Though he did give a weak and forced thank you when we thanked him for the food (not sure why I bothered though). I enjoy the food, but completely do not recommend dining in. Unless that is if you are white, as I notice over time are the only people who get decent service. Perhaps, I just dont look rich enough? I dont know I can compare the experience much to how some Mexican folk dislike you when you visit their establishment without knowing the language or food names. Much like a lot of the ladies who work at the Stripes kitchens. OVERALL: This is not a place for a nice date, or to expect anything close to decent service. The food is very delicious in my opinion, although pricey compared to other places. It is located in a nice place, so when you are done stomaching such unimaginable service, you can try and wash out the memory over a good book at the Barnes and Nobles across the street.

OMG where to begin, I have been a loyal customer for over a year! Owners are very moody so I always tried my best to be as nice as possible. I was addicted to several items on the menu and visited with them at least 4 times a week. Introducing several people there as well including Drs, and other professionals. I had been disappointed before due to the service and feeling uncomfortable for being such a regular. (weird right, you would think they would know your name or treat you nicer) On one dining experience I asked the server for another bowl so my daughter and I could share a soup and he replied "the owners wont allow me to get a bowl, they are weird" I once overheard the male owner yell at a customer to leave the restaurant because the customer was trying to customize the order due to allergies. On another occasion I had ordered something to go but in the 15 minute wait some friends decided they wanted to join in so we went to the restuarant and I asked them to sit me down and I was going to dine in with my take out order and she rolled her eyes at me and told me no. I asked her please that I would eat out of the to go box and she finally said yes! The one that finally did it was on Halloween night when my 7 year old and I went to dine in. The place was EMPTY.....I orderd the usual I had always ordered and for some reason the server got the order wrong. When he brought the food out I called him on it, needless to say he was so scared to let the owner know because he did not know what her reaction would be. When he told her I overheard her say "just add it as a side order" when he brought it out he told me it would be $8 extra!! I thought to myself what the heck just happened? Your charging me for your mistake! I told him whatever and started to prepare my meal although I was furious! She started talking in her language and looked straight at me and said "oh yeah shes not happy haja" I felt so humiliated! They brought me the check before I started eating which just did it! I decided I would get up and walk out and the last laugh would be on them! When I was leaving she went out of her way to sarcastically say "bye, bye, thank you" over and over again!! Never going back!!

First off I would like to say that the food here is great. The service however is the exact opposite! The old lady who serves as a waitress is completely rude and takes forever. Unless you look like you have money dont bother being greeted or treated with any kind of respect. She did not come back to give us refills, threw our plates on the table and not in front of the right person, and took forever to check on us to see if we needed anything and if we did she still wouldnt bring it. Thats been my experience more than once but I would go back every now and then to enjoy the food. Today has been the straw that broke the camels back. I called to order takeout. I ordered a soup which they said they were out of today so I ordered another soup which they said was no longer on the menu (I have a picture and its most definitely on the menu, crab meat fish stomach soup isnt exactly something you come up with off the top of your head). So I asked what soups they had today, I was told I could find them on the menu online, I told him thats what I had looked at and he told me to call back when I was ready and hung up on me. Hung up on a paying customer! So I called back, the phone was answered by a woman this time. I explained to her what just happened and that I was not happy. So she asked what soup I trued to order the first one she said they were out of, I said that was fine. The second one she told me was not on the menu anymore I told her that I saw it on the menu she told me no they had updated the menu (once again I have a screenshot of crab meat fish stomach soup listed on their menu) at that point I didnt feel like being argued with, just tell me you dont have it and I would have moved on. So I decided to order from somewhere else instead. Im very disappointed because I really do like the food from Hop Tung but it just isnt worth the hassle Ive had to face every time. Save yourself the trouble.
