Before I begin, let me say that I was looking forward to giving 7 Leguas a try for a long time after several recommendations. Unfortunately my first visit will be my last, unless things change drastically. 7 Leguas has an "old school" Mexican Restaurant feel to it. You can tell its been around a long time, but thats ok. Its part of the charm. Unfortunately upon entering youll quickly notice that there is another long time legacy remnant - SMOKING. They have carved out a small room near the bar where they allow smoking, but as everyone in the universe knows - if you allow smoking anywhere, the smoke gets everywhere. When we were originally seated we were unknowingly placed near that room, but then quickly moved as far away as possible. Despite this, after a 45 minute dining experience all three members of my party were suffering from effects such as burning throats and runny noses. The waiter explained to us that they tried to get rid of smoking more than once, but legacy customers complained so much they kept it. While I understand what that pressure must be like, they pay by not gaining new customers since the world is intolerant of this kind of thing. As far as the menu is concerned, its extensive and there should be something to satisfy anyone who enjoys Mexican food, though I say that with some reservations. We noted the bowls of chips and salsa were quite small when compared to... well just about anywhere. And though the salsa wasnt bad by any means, it also wasnt special. I cant imagine people leaving and thinking, I want to come back for some of that! The portions and speed of preparation were both good, but of the three different meals we ordered everyone agreed that they were good, but not the best around. However, its difficult to say if the food was really a little bland, or if the real problem was that the smoke (from the smokers) in the air was affecting the way everything tasted. All in all, the service was friendly, the restaurant clean and inviting, and the food decent. But at best the experience can not warrant greater than 3 stars, and only if you can stomach lungs full of smoke. Its simply not a family friendly spot, nor one for people with asthma, allergies or who simply enjoy breathing clean air.

My visit On 12/ 7 around 7p. When being seated we werent asked if we wanted non smoking or smoking and was taken to the smoking section 1st. A good hostess should always ask! The waiter (Voni) wasnt a good listener. I asked for water with lemon and received plain water (a lemon never ever came). I asked for a order of quesadillas (was never asked what size). When I receive the bill it stated LARGE quesadillas....well of course instead of asking what size is wanted he took upon himself to bring out the largest size!! $$$$$ When I brought this his attention he stated he assumed I wanted a full large order and I should have asked him to take back my order. Hmm if this is my 1st time here how would I know what a large order is in comparison to regular. He said hed send a manager (but he didnt). A manager happened to walk by and when speaking to him he said the same thing. What the HECK!! I DONT WORK AT THIS RESTAURANT TO KNOW THE MENU AND WHAT THE SIZES ARE. WOW! Customer service is not a priority here.

Idiots. I explained to my waiter I wanted something I couldnt get anywhere else. He recommended fajitas then a burrito. After a few more minutes of over-looking the staple variety of gravy-covered enchiladas, fajitas and burritos, I came across the Pork Combo. The menu describes the dish a "Pork chops....and a cheese enchilada....with rice, beans and pico de gallo." I asked for charro beans instead. The plate was hot and the pork was buried under a pico-style sauce. The beans were cold. The chop was thin and NOT a $10 plate. But wait! Didnt I read, "chops"? After verifying with the manager, he apologized and offered to make another chop. I said I didnt have room. When I received my bill there was an up charge for the charro beans and my plate was full price despite the screw up. I wont be back.

So I brought my neice and nephew here...big mistake. They put us in a smoky room ( the only thing separating the "smoking" area from us was a big open doorway). I have two kids with me one happens to be six years old and I made a comment and the hostess just walked off. I walked through the rest of the restruant and several tables were open so I dont know why we were stuck in a nasty back room. I debating going out due to being tight on money and if it had been a good expierence I wouldve been more than happy with the decision. My nephew asked me when we would "get to order our food...". He asked for Whataburger for dinner and I have to say I shouldve gone with that.

Granted, their food is delicious (when its the right order) and its the only reason we have came back... but the service is horrible. Got tired of getting my order wrong from waiters when we would eat in, so decided to call take out (which weve done dozens of times)... The lady that answered the phone interuppted me saying, and I quote, "sorry, we need you to come in person and order because we only do food orders over the phone...". Considering I said I wanted chips and queso and hadnt even finished what my order was, I just hung up the phone because I could not handle the amount of stupidity. Not getting my business anymore. Enough is enough.

Hands down the best mexican restaurant. The service is fantastic. Nobody standing around looking bored. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly. I never have to ask for a refill. The restaurant is clean. The busboys are cleaning the place when they are not bussing tables. The food is great. There is an ample selection so everyone can find something they like. My wife likes the Steak Martin. The steak is tender, juicy, and full of flavor. I like their margaritas. Even the chips and salsas are good. The prices are reasonable. You get more for you money here than at most other places.

Our family evaluates Tex-Mex restaurants based primarily on the quality of 3 key items: fajitas, margaritas, chips & salsas (esp. salsa verde). If those are top notch the rest usually is as well. 7 Leguas passes with flying colors! Weve been regular customers for almost as long as theyve been in business, and all the older staff know us by name. Its our go-to restaurant for every family event. :) Current favorite menu item: Parrillada Lopez.

Took family tonight for the first time. To start with the lady working front counter was very friendly and polite. Once at table took 12 minutes for the waiter to get drink order. Another 10 minutes for food order. Only showed up one time for drink refill. Had to get manager to assist in getting carry out boxes and check. One a good note the food was food except for the first tray of chips that was cold and close to being stale.
