I found Orleans Seafood Kitchen to be pretty good, but its nothing compared to Cajun/Creole in Louisiana. I also find Orleans Seafood Kitchen better than Mardis Gras Grill here in Houston, for comparison purposes. The gumbo is really good. The roux could be darker and more complex in flavor to be sure, but its solid and flavorful. The chicken and sausage are smoked adding an interesting and delicious flavor. Id say a B+ overall and probably the second best Ive had in Texas. The garlic bread that came with it was perhaps just as impressive. Sure, its simple garlic bread, but it was as good if not better than any other Ive had in a restaurant. The fried shrimp was fried perfectly and had an excellent fresh flavor. The crawfish etouffee had plenty of fresh crawfish and a great flavorful base of spicy flavor atop the bed the bed of dirty rice. The dirty rice was was solid, and the rice was cooked perfectly. I think it could use more pork liver though to make for a bolder flavor. The blackened catfish was good, but it was far from "blackened". Ive never seen a properly blackened fish - or anything for that matter - outside of Louisiana. The fish should have been nearly solid black, but it wasnt. Regardless, it was tasty. The fried catfish is decent fried well but the batter needs work (i.e. flavor). We wrapped up the evening with some bread pudding and pecan pie. The texture was perfect; however, it could use more sweetness, cinnamon, and nutmeg as the bread pudding itself was kind of bland, especially since they did not put nearly enough sauce on it. The pecan pie wasnt spectacular, but it was really solid. The filling was delicious without being too sweet and had a homemade, fresh taste. In short, Orleans Seafood Kitchen might become one of my go-to Cajun places in Houston, but I still have a number of places to try. Still, the food is quite good (though not excellent or perfect), and will satisfy those who are homesick for Louisiana.

Update 10/30/2016: We tried Orleans Seafood in Katy again after a previous bad experience a year ago. Unfortunately one of the two managers behind the counter failed again to treat customers who keep them in business professionally. My daughter can not eat dairy and the Greek salad came with some cheese on it. My wife returned to salad and asked to have one made without cheese. One of the managers behind the counter angrily threw the original salad into the kitchen and in a rude manor presented the new salad to my wife. She was shocked at his apparent anger at her or at the kitchen staff. This was our final visit to this establishment. We will not give them the benefit of the doubt that he was just having a bad day. Sad when establishments have enough clients that this kind of behavior goes on. Thank you for the reply to my comment from last year. No need to reply again as problems with the gruff, rude and unprofessional managers continue a year later. We have frequented Orleans many times in the past and had been pleased up until now. The Sunday manager should take customer relations courses as the way he handled a birthday free gumbo coupon. He was lacking professionalism and courtesy. The email coupon had not "print" option that I could find and like most via email, you simply show it to the waiter and they honor it. This was not the case. He said the coupon had been printed numberous times and he would not accept it. IF THERE IS NOT WAY TO PRINT IT HOW COULD IT HAVE BEEN PRINTTED MANY TIMES?!?!?!? It is kind of pathetic for a manager to not honor an obvious promotion like this. AND we had a group people and spent over $150 for our meal so it is not like we were trying to rip him off. Well probably take our seafood dinning elsewhere from now on.

Have been going to this place for years, but over the last year they are going down hill.... The food quality is less, for example I have ordered the chicken royal as one of my favorites now they only put a small amount of sauce and if you ask for more they charge you extra??? The blacken chicken is often over cooked to the point I couldnt eat it... I also noticed there prices have increased significantly... I could be eating at papadeaux for not much more and have a server and bread, etc... I have always tipped even at Orleans...I really hoped this place would have stayed on tracked as a new business when I arrived here from California and raised in Louisiana, but like most business after a few years is lacking!!! They need to get down to the basics of how to treat people..... Marcus needs to stop trying to hook up with the young employees to focus on business practices and Chance needs to really start looking at being an owner who wants quality not profit..

I ate at this restaurant because a friend said it was sooooo good...I ordered étouffée something you cant really mess up- ( its just rice with seasoned shrimp and made in a buttery roux sauce with sautéed onions and bell peppers)especially since your restaurants name is "Orleans."..It was horrible to say the absolute best...It tasted like brown burnt straight from a bucket gravy with white rice and 6 small shrimp. I have made étouffée from the grocery store that was 100 time better than that crap. Listen this is coming from someone who really likes to try new restaurants but expects the food to at least look like the actual dish and not like slop...literally like slop. if I could up load a photo right now I would. Now with that being said other dishes I saw being served looked really good like the fried shrimp and baked fish. But I dont think I will be back to find out...I will stick with the trusted seafood restaurants in Houston.

I went there last week and left very disappointed. Food was good except fries but customer service was horrible. The manager in turn (the very robust one) probably was having a bad day.. I forgot to mention I wanted tilapia instead of catfish but as soon as I realized I went back. I went to refill my drink and the manager was mocking me and was very angry because of my request! It was very awkward for me to hear this. Himself and one of the cashiers a young girl with blond hair were saying how they got this type of customers. I have been to Orleans for lunch and I always had good experiences. That day our family spend more than 80dls and the manager could not get over the fact that I forgot to request this. I always leave a tip for cashiers but after hearing this girl talk like that it makes me wonder what kind of training they have.

First off I placed 2 orders online about an hour in advance, when I arrived to the restaurant only one of my orders was ready, they could not find my 2nd order in their system, ok cool no problem I showed them my receipt that was emailed to me, they requested to have my order cooked, just catfish and fries. The manager asked to see the card that I paid with online, I handed him the card and asked if I would be charged twice for the same meal he said no, I go home look at my online account and Im charged twice for the same thing. I submitted claim through my bank. There are more Cajun places with better tasting food, my food barely had any seasoning and my fries were hard. I had high hopes for this place, I was told by 2 people who went that that it was good, maybe I went on a bad day.
