This review is not aimed at the wait staff, but the 2 managers that were running the restaurant on the night of our visit. We had a rather large party of about 25 people for a birthday party. Although the the food was great, the place was operationally out of control. Wich ultimately lead to a very bad experience. I can only imagine how much money was being lost on the night. Our waiter was handling 3 big partys of at least 15 people or more each. We would go stretches of at least 30 minutes with out seeing our waiter. Drinks would take up to 15 minutes to arrive after ordering. In our 3.5 hour visit I was successful in getting only 2 drinks. I drank that in 10 minutes at the Yardhouse next door. There was a big party seated by us that was being attended by what looked to be an off duty employee in an Orange dress that kept going back in the kitchen to get food and supplies for her table. Not a good look, when you have a floor full of people that can not be served on time. Never once was our table visited by any of the management to check and see how the evening was going. A very low brow move for a restaurant of this caliber. Especially for the neighborhood you are in. I watched the 2 managers watch all this chaos go down from the sidelines. Ultimately the managers are responsible for making a night run smooth. These poor kids you had running these tables were way under trained and unprepared to be handling a night of this magnitude. To close out the night it took about 30 minutes for us to pay. This should be the easiest part of the transaction. Who does not want money, and why does it have to take so long to give you our money. All in all it took Straits a total of 3.5 hours to provide us with 1.5 hours of service. Good luck guys, hope you can make it after the new smell wears off....

The food is really good, especially for "pan Asian" which can often miss the mark and lack authentic flavors. Have enjoyed everything Ive eaten there. Some faves: the chefs special parmesan truffle roti is amazing. The chicken lollipops are delicious as is the stuffed roti. We like to sit outside so we have easy access to the big play area for our toddler. It is very pleasant and makes a nice change from Ruggles Green. Unfortunately the service is not good. The staff all seem to be young and inexperienced, and frankly, not too bright. Our last waitress was trying hard and nice but we had to ask for water twice and ask for enough plates and cutlery. Last time we were there the hostess/front of house was unhelpful and quite rude: we asked if we could sit outside and told only if we are doing full dining. Fine, we said.So we sit outside, get service etc.It starts to rain heavily so we gather up our food and drinks and head inside. There were two toddlers in our group. Our waitress says we have to ask the hostess where we can sit. The hostess tells us that they are fully booked and there is no where to sit. Meanwhile we are standing up still holding our plates and drinks. "So shall we just stand up and finish our dinner?", I ask. One table is actually free and I say, "well can we sit there?" . Hostess then asks: "Are you going to be doing full dining?" Seriously?! She obviously didnt remember us from before, and the fact that we were in front of her holding half eaten plates of food seemed to go unnoticed. Unbelievable!

We stopped by here on a Thursday night for a girls night out, around 9:30p. We were actually on our way somewhere else and were drawn in by the large and nice patio seating that they had. There was only one table taken by another group, and it was a very nice evening for summer night. It wasnt crowded at all and we asked to sit outside. The hostess said we couldnt sit there because it was for full-dining only and our group just wanted to have some drinks. This is ridiculous considering there was only one table taken on the huge patio of tables they had, and no one else was there waiting for a table. The inside was sparsely occupied as well, for a Thursday night. This was very disappointing. They did however have some happy hour drinks that were $6 and under all night which was nice. The last time I stopped by with my husband, about 2 years ago, I was charged a ridiculous $15 for a martini. Needless to say I hadnt been back since then until this night. Our group had a nice time just in the company of each other but we only stayed one hour. We wouldve stayed longer and had more drinks if we wouldve been allowed to have a table outside on the patio. This place should really consider their "rules" when theyre having a somewhat quiet night. I dont think I would consider this place again for a night of drinks with friends.

Sunday brunch they had 1 waitress and 5 busboys. seriously? I keep trying to give this place a chance and they keep failing. the food is good if you can ever get served. we had empty glasses of water for an hour. .an hour! !!! everyone passed us by, neglected to check on us, and waited 40 min to speak to a manager. we didnt just up and leave like we were inclined to do, but stayed and spoke our peace. the waitress was nice, and the manager too..but horrible decision to have one waitress the entire sunday brunch. shouldnt take an hour and a half to get served food when we were there before 4 other tables and were served last. we were kind, polite, patient, tried to pass the time by chatting...but seriously. bad decision to be understaffed on a busy brunch day. shouldve stayed with our first decision of going to ruggles green. this place straits has good food but the worst service in almost every visit my friends and family have ever been. youve ruined 3 birthday celebrations and wasted 3 hours of our time sitting waiting to be served. by the way, the waitress was still tipped graciously because we have a family of past servers who know its not always the servers fault. rethink your schedules and stop serving brunch if you cant deliver! one out of 18 dishes served correctly and timely. hmmm....not good at all.

Im done with this place. I really really didnt want to be because Ive enjoyed all the food Ive tried there, but their poor customer service and poor management is just too pathetic I cant give them anymore of my money. I work right across the street and in the last two weeks I have went there three times for lunch. I have taken the food three times as carry out. The first time I waited for my change for quite a while, (they werent busy). The second time I got back to my desk and realized they forgot the rice, so I had to walk back. This third time the guy didnt give me all my change, only the dollars and I asked him about it and he said "we dont have change, we always round up". Really?!?!?! First off thats a lie because the last two times, which again were just in the last two weeks, this didnt happen. Granted it was some change and not a lot of money but just that he didnt even offer the amount rightfully due to me is a joke. And then he gave the round up excuse. Youre already charging $15 for chicken and rice and now youre trying to take me for even more? Im on a search for a new basil chicken in Houston and until I find it I will be searching online for a similar recipe. My "favorite" restaurant in city center will not be seeing me again nor will I rave about it to my coworkers.
