I was in Houston on a business trip, and being from Kansas City, I was interested in seeing how Texas barbecue stacked up to the KC barbecue Im used to. I ordered the two meat and two side dish platter, choosing the brisket and the sausage, paired with the mac and cheese and green beans. The service was basically cafeteria style, which is not atypical of great barbecue, and the people serving us were great. The lady behind the counter even suggested we double our beer order, as we were coming at the end of happy hour. I was impressed with the appearance of the brisket. It appears that they kept the point of the brisket with the flat (I could be wrong, because the brisket they were slicing my dinner from was pretty well sliced up). It had a great smoke ring, and the meat was juicy. The flavor of the brisket was good, but not outstanding. While the smoke ring indicated someone knew what they were doing, the meat itself lacked a smoky flavor. The exception was the burnt edge, which was awesome, especially the portion that looked like it came from the point. The sausage was amazing. Just enough spice to give it flavor, but not so much to hide the flavor of the meat. It certainly had retained much more smoke flavor than the brisket. The sauce nicely enhanced both meats, and I used a bit more on the brisket than I would normally do just to make up for the lack of the smoke flavor. The mac and cheese was very good...not to creamy and not too dry. The green beans were nicely seasoned and a good compliment to the protein overload. The price was very good for a solid Texas-size portion. The atmosphere was simple and rustic, which I think goes hand-in-hand with a good barbecue place. It didnt convert me away from being a KC barbecue lover, but it was a great meal at a great price. Overall, a great experience.

This place reminds me of Pappas BBQ, but a little less organized with spicier bbq sauce options. We walked in and thankfully there were not many customers because the service was pretty slow. Given that you order at the counter, basically this was just an awkward interaction of standing there waiting to be acknowledged and then the guy constantly having to go back to the oven keeping the meat warm for each thing we wanted. On the upside, the meat stays warm. I went with 2 meats and 2 sides, I wanted to try both the sweet and wet and the dry and spicy ribs. I also opted for the mac & cheese and the heartache potatoes. For the price, about $15, it was a good amount of food and I left full without even finishing my food. Both ribs were good, but neither were amazing. The sweet and saucy were not really that sweet or that saucy, but they had a good flavor. Addition additional sauce to them was just weird as the flavor of the sauce didnt match and somewhat overpowered the initial taste. The dry rub ribs were even better, a good smoky flavor, that once again the sauce didnt really complement, so I would opt to not have it (you can add it yourself at the table). The mac & cheese was excellent and the potatoes good, but both could have been warmer... while not cold, both were just about room temperature. Overall, this place scratched my itch for some ribs and was a good meal at a good price.

The food was great. The service was horrible. The man who helped my boyfriend and I had a horrible attitude. Their plates are too expensive for the amount of meat they give you. I never been inside before but my boyfriebd has so when he asked for beef ribs on his three meat plate, which is 18 dollars, the man only gave him one. So he stated that when he came a few weeks before he received 2 ribs. The man then went back to give us both 2 ribs, bc I had beef ribs as one of my meat choices as well. When it was time to check out he asked if we wanted something to drink. At the check out counter, there was a lot of bottled drinks so I asked if they had a drink machine instead of just saying yes, he gave a slick remark. I ignored it. I saw a sign that said happy hour so I asked if they had the margaritas on special well as well, he said yes and told me they had two flavors. When I asked could I mix the flavors he gave me the rudest look and then turned to mix my drink. I started laughing and told my boyfriend I must be asking too many questions. We paid for our food which was great and watched as other customers came in and received good customer service. Im not sure if it was because they were returning customers or if it was bc they were white. But we will not be returning.

I work in the area so Ive been driving by this place for months, always saying I needed to try it out. Finally today me and another guy in my office decided to see what it was all about and let me tell you this place is LEGIT! First, the service was 2nd to none. From the guy cutting up the meats to the owner making sure our meal was good, I was impressed at the attention they gave their patrons. On top of that the BBQ was just as good! Ive eaten Pappas BBQ, Bakers Ribs, Goode Co. BBQ, Spring Creek BBQ, Gabbys and a slew of other BBQ joints in and around Houston, but this place has all of them beat by a landslide! Im fairly picky about my BBQ as well, been going to rodeo cookoffs since I was a kid so if it aint good, I dont eat it. All Im saying is if you like BBQ and you live in Houston, this is probably the BEST place youre going to find to satiate that smoke stack flavor! Kudos to the owner/staff for going the extra mile, we will definitely be coming back! Edit: I forgot to mention that while they have your typical BBQ meats, they also had a pork tenderloin stuffed w/ boudin. WHAT?!?!?! I know, right? I had to check it out because I was also craving cajun today and it really hit the spot, very tasty!

DISAPPOINTED! Im not sure how this place has 4.5 stars?!? I drive pass here often, and we planned to have bbq on Sunday. It was around 6:30 PM and most places were closed, so we resorted to Stockyard. We should have gone somewhere else. #painofregret The set up is nice and they had a room capacity sign that said 114 persons, but the dining area was definitely not big enough to hold that many people. There was not even 70 chairs available. The staff was rude. They were not very friendly from the beginning when we were ordering meat. No big deal. On to the BBQ...just look at my pictures. Do you see how dry the brisket is? What in the world?! How do you call yourself a Bar-B-Q restaurant? The pork ribs flavoring was good, but it was definitely not cooked well. It didnt even fall off the bone. The dirty rice also had a little sour after taste. The sausage and mac & cheese were the only items that were decent. The spicy BBQ sauce was good, but overall everything else was terrible.
