**Its not as bad as the reviews would make you think!** Me and my family have really enjoyed the Katsura restaurants of Juárez, so when me and my dad where in El Paso yesterday, we decided to give this one a shot. I looked up the reviews for it and initially I got worried, since many of them went full negative and rated 1 star. However there must have been some huge revamp between the last negative review and my visit, because it was nowhere near as bad as I expected. The tables were clean and the waiter that served us was very friendly. However something I have to note is that the service was kinda slow comapred to the other Katsura restaurants Ive been to even though there wasnt a lot of people. I had a veggie yakimeshi and a ramen soup (thinking it was going to be a small bowl). Both of the dishes were very clearly freshly made. The rice in the yakimeshi was very good, and it didnt felt burnt or compacted. Ive never had ramen before, so I didnt know what to expect. Some people in very old reviews compared the ramen to instant noodles, but I can assure you nowadays that isnt the case. The ramen had a much different flavor and consistency than those of instant noodles. I dont think Katsura is exactly what youd call authentic Japanese food, and I dont think that it really matters as long as the food is good (plus like 99% those "Japanese food connosieurs" that you see around on Google and Yelp are just pretentious hipsters who havent eaten in Japan, arent Japanese that have tasted actual Japanese food or havent taken a gastronomy course, so you shouldnt really trust them when it comes to authenticity). I think they must have changed chef or something because again, my experience was nowhere near as bad as the old reviews made it out to be. That said though, the rolls is kind of expensive (dad ordered a roll which was worth around 13 dollars), which is weird because the ones in Juarez are very reasonably priced. My final veredict is that the food is good, but if youre not someone whos got time to spare or are looking for cheap meals, this is not the sushi restaurant for you.

Horrible service, dont trow away your money or your health... found a very large piece of stainless steel scouring pad on my vegetebles i bit on it and unfortunately swallowed a piece and the managers answer was: its an honest mistake because we scrub on the dishes really hard to keep the clean. she offered a gift card but i said no thank you, i will not eat here ever again...not for free or not even with a gun pointed to my head. pésimo servicio,no malgasten su dinero ni su salud. mi plato de verduras venia con una pieza bastante grande de estropajo de acero, desafortunadamente me trague un pedazo y la respuesta de la manejadora fue: es un error que le puede pasar a cualquiera ya que tallamos muy fuerte los sartenes para mantenerlos limpios, me ofreció un tarjeta de regalo pero no la acepte ya que no volvería a comer aquí ni regalado.

Been here several other times and it has always been the same lack of service but this time, tops it all. Today went with my wife and 2 kids, waiter offered us a table for 2 when he literally saw us with our kids. There is 1 waiter for the hole place, so you know its going to take some time to be served or even before some one comes around to offer something to drink. We kno sushi is not cheep but these people are puting their prices through the roof and on top of it all they will charge you for all the sides that you will eat your sushi with, like eal sauce, siracha, etc.this guys have also lack the quality of their food, it was one of our favorite places to eat sushi and now we are not even stoping by at all. This guys are litery struggling to make their rent so they have blown their prices way out of proportion. When we would have dinner there usually would pay $40-$50 for 4 rolls and drinks may be a beer or so but that was about it. Today we ended paying $80 for the same thing exept no alcohol. So heads up if you are heading that way. Food isnt worth the price ill recomend you to go to cattle barron instead

a.) Overly priced crap b.) Ordered a "prime rib" with veggies on the menu. Received overly cooked, dry, beef jerky PIECES in soup with "vegetables (a carrot)". Specifically did not order sesame seeded dish due to allergies, but food had a pound of sesame seeds. c.) the sushi was lack luster at best. If this is "great sushi", Ill get a five year old a sushi kit, some dry rice, and scant pieces of fish to make better attempt at sushi. You can come over to my house, and Ill make a fortune on the "great sushi." This place is basically another Mexican restaurant that wouldnt know "great" sushi if it smacked them in their overly priced faces. You the reader can go if you want. But be warned, its overly priced and overly cooked! To summarize: this place is 3/10 in quality.

I gave them one star because the food looked good but after waiting 40 minutes I never received my order and my friend's order was wrong. After politely reminding the waitress of a food allergy she scuffed as though she didn't care. After asking for the manager we waited another 15 minutes, he came out, checked our ticket and went back in his office and never spoke to us. It wasn't busy, only two other tables, yet our waitress only came once to bring water the whole hour we were there. The cooks also laughed at us through the window when the order was sent back. The water was icy cold and deliciously refreshing thoug, so if you like water and poor attitudes, go to katsura.

I like this place. I want to love it but never had an experience that could make it so. One of the times a group of us had gone, our waitress asked if we preferred that she either speak English or Spanish.. We said "English please." Her reply was "Noooooo.", just like Consuela from Family Guy. We couldnt believe it. Out of the 6 or so times Ive been, my order has never been correct according to how I had ordered it. Not so major to where I had to send food back, but I end up having to take time picking something out of my food that I had asked to not have in it at all. Good sushi, decently priced, less than mediocre service.

We ordered Ramen, Yakitori, Chicken Teriyaki, and Tuna sushi. I was surprised to see Ramen on the menu, too bad the noodles were more like Phö and the “soup" was slightly flavored hot water. Yakitori and Chicken Teriyaki were the same thing, one was on a stick though. The main problem with this place, and the biggest, was the rice!! Ive had instant rice that tasted better!!! I would never recommend this place to anyone. Drive 20 more minutes and go to Matsuharu.

Absolutely horrible service. Our waitress came over all of three times during the whole time. Our appetizer (fried rice balls) took as much time as the sushi to come out. And the sushi was atrocious, it was warm and rubbery and was barely edible. I was legitimately afraid that I was going to get food poisoning from this place. It wasnt even worth the time to go in. Next time, Ill gladly drive another twenty minutes away to actually get decent sushi.
