I ordered Miso hot as a first order(absolutely first order since they started from March, 23rd of 2016). Here is my impression. Good point +++ Taste is good. Interesting point is I ordered Miso hot, but I could adjust "how hot it is" by how much I dissolve the red paste on the top or ramen. + location is good. As long as I remember, its the first place for ramen in north austin area. Bad point --- Toppings on the top of the ramen is not good visible. Seaweed(Nori), corns, chunked pork(maybe), could ear. No chashu, no boiled egg, no bamboo shoot. For me, it looks like too simple. - I need to order and pay at the counter before I get the seat, I just dont like this style. For example, if I want ice as desert, should I get in the tail of the line? -- little bit costy compare to the contents of the ramen. if he keeps current price, Id suggest to add one of the racked staff from chashu, boiled egg(nitamago) or bamboo shoot.

This is such a great little hole-in-the-wall restaurant! What a fantastic secret for Austin locals! Most people who like ramen will go to Ramen Tat-Su-Ya, and many who enjoy Tat-Su-Ya will be opinionated about other ramen places... But honestly, Kanji Ramen is every bit as good, maybe even better. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, pictured below. Its not just the food thats excellent, I really like Kanji Ramen for the difference in atmosphere. Its quiet, you can actually have a conversation without yelling. The music selection is actually Japanese, unlike Tat-Su-Ya which usually plays loud/trendy electronica. Definitely come check this place out, it will become your go-to spot for ramen.

I feel this is one of the best ramen restaurants in the area. Ive been here at least a handful of times, and every time Im pleasantly surprised. All the ramen dishes Ive sampled have been excellent. I was recently recommended the #6 Sukiyaki and loved it. The #1 signature is just full of umami. Its not too busy here on afternoons and evenings, so you can be in and out quickly and leave feeling satisfied. The staff is as friendly as can be. I have no qualms recommending this place to others. P.S. One of the loveliest things is they play a variety of moden Japanese music here. Its a unique ambiance thats never distasteful--just passionate and authentic.

Most of the appetizers are frozen food purchased at a grocery store and put on a nice plate; this includes the shrimp tempura, pork sliders, and several other food items. The spicy ramen is also packaged store bought ramen. Dont believe me? I recently worked at this establishment. Hopefully the boxes dont state "not for resale" or it would be illegal along with dishonest. Who pays to eat out at a restaurant to be severed overpriced boxed frozen food?

This aint ramen. The sides werent too bad, but the ramen itself had little flavor. The broth was weak, and the broth is what makes the ramen. The noodles reminded me more of overcooked spaghetti noodles than they did ramen noodles. The restaurant was nice enough, and the staff seemed competent, if not very engaging, but unfortunately "nice enough" on decor is not enough to bring me back, when we have so many other selections in this town.

I was pretty impressed with this small place. I had Kanji Ramen and I really enjoyed this Ramen. I only went to Tatsu-ya when I craved Ramen but every time I disappointed about long line and tiny place and last but not least the soup all too salty (if you ever had Ramen in Japan you will know why I said too salty) but Kanji Ramen soup taste right even my son love it. He split it out tarsa-ya soup.

I had the Spicy Miso (#2). And it was great! I really liked that it had the spice paste on top so you could decide how much to mix in. I didnt realize though that you needed to order the egg as an add on. Ill remember next time. I definitely will be back. As far as atmosphere, it was a nice quiet place for dinner. They did have music playing but it was easy to have a conversation during dinner.

If you want good ramen, come here. We travel from Harker Hights to enjoy their amazing ramen. The head chef told us his Tonkatsu takes about 3 days to get just right. Amazing. I tried once and was impatient after 18 hrs. The debate is whether to get the #1 or #3. We usually get both and share. Gosh. I want some now. Shm. Tomorrow.

Didnt like it at all. Our order was wrong and he didnt want to fix it. My friend has for no egg but he got it anyway and they just scooped it out with a spoon and gave him the same plate back after saying they would make him a new dish. We didnt care that they did that it was just a principle. 2.3 Stars

Im a fan of ramen, no joke. Couldnt get enough of it while in Japan. Coming back to Austin, it isnt always easy to find a good ramen shop. Kanji Ramen certainly isnt the only ramen shop in Austin, but it was certainly good! (Thanks for playing Japanese music, too. Its the small things, you know?)

Small cozy place. I was looking for something small so I got their steak on sticks from their small plates menu and it was nice, lightly seasoned and tender. As for the ramen, it is a big portion and worth what you pay for. The kanji ramen has a very good broth as well as the spicy miso ramen.

I got a decent bowl of ramen tonkatsu from Kanji, the #3. The pork in the ramen was chewy and not the greatest. The egg was a little well done and cold. Its hard to compete with Ramen Tatsu-ya and Michi ramen both of which are much better imho. The don Katsu appetizer was very tasty.

Very good ramen, more subtle and less intense that Ramen Tatsu-ya. I personally prefer the stronger flavors a little more, but I can see why a lot of people prefer this more balanced approach. Great choice for a bigger group, and they do have a take out option, which is really nice.

I got the hot miso and let me tell you they are not messing around when they say hot. I took about two thirds of the chili paste out before mixing my bowl and I still had a runny nose by the end. Im going to have a hard time ordering something else because the miso was so good!

**Mix your ramen before eating! Service was great, the spicy miso ramen was delicious, although it was strange that I had to mix it all together for it to be good, it was bland before mixing. The crunchy tofu was also great. Will definitely be back!

I ordered the signature ramen and the pork is too dry. The soup tastes a bit off. Too sweet and I dont know why. The server was very polite. The noodle doesnt taste like freshly made but I doubt any restaurant in Austin offer freshly made noodle.
